In situ FTIR spectra have been used to characterize surface oxygen and adspccies on 20%SrF2/La2O3 catalyst and for the oxidative coupling of methane (OCM).The O2- sur face superoxide with characteristic vibration frequency at 1113-1123 cm-1 was formed on the sample after treatment with H2 at 700℃ following exposure to O2 at temperatures between 650℃ and 25℃,The O2 adspecies could also be detected on the working sample at 65O℃ and might play an important role in OCM reaction leading to the production of C2H4 from CH4. These results provide evidence that superoxide ions may be the active oxygen on 20%SrF2/La2O3 catalyst during the oxidative coupling of methane.

High intensity interval training(HIIT)causes oxidative stress and haematological *** study was aimed to evaluate the effect of 8 weeks’supplementation of vitamin C and E on HIIT induced changes in lipid profile parameters and haematological *** six male adolescent players were randomly assigned into five age-matched groups,i.e.,Control(no exercise+placebo),HIIT(placebo),HIIT+vitamin-C(1000mg/day),HIIT+vitamin-E 400 IU/day)and combined HIIT+vitamin C and *** and evening sessions(90min)of HIIT included 4 phases(15min each)with 3 sets(4min each).Each 4min HIIT set consisted of 2min intense sprint workout(90%–95%of heart rate maximum[HRmax])followed by 1min active recovery(60%–70%HRmax)followed by 1min of complete rest(1:1 work-rest ratio).Lipid profile parameters,haematological variables,endurance capacity and vertical jump were evaluated by standard *** decrease in body weight,fat%,total cholesterol,triglyceride,Total Cholesterol/High Density Lipoprotein-Cholesterol and significant increase in High Density Lipoprotein-Cholesterol,maximal oxygen consumption,vertical jump were observed for all four intervention *** blood cell count,red blood cell count,haemoglobin percentage and haematocrit values were significantly decreased while platelet count and platelet-to-leukocyte ratio(PLR)ratio were increased significantly only for HIIT *** level of tocopherol and ascorbic acid was significantly increased(values were within the normal range)in all the respective vitamin supplemented *** of vitamin C and E secures health protection with suppressed haemolysis and improved inflammatory blood variables with enhanced explosive leg strength and lipid profile parameters without any concomitant change in endurance capacity.

Ethnopharmacology, phytochemistry and pharmacology of Tephrosia purpurea

Tephrosia purpurea(L.) Pers. is popularly known as ‘Sarapunkha' in classical Ayurvedic texts. It is a perennial plant belonging to the family Fabaceae, and occurs throughout the Indian subcontinent. T. purpurea is traditionally used to treat spleenomegaly, cirrhosis, cough and cold, abdominal swelling and as an antidote in the Ayurvedic system of medicine. Phytochemical investigations indicate the presence of semiglabrin, pongamole, lanceolatins A and B, rutin, lupeol, and β-sitosterol. Flavonoids including(+)-tephrorin A and B,(+)-tephrosone, an isoflavone, 7, 4'-dihydroxy-3', 5'-dimethoxyisoflavone and a chalcone,(+)-tephropurpurin were isolated from the whole plant. Pharmacological activities of different parts of the plant reported include anti-inflammatory, antiulcer, antimicrobial, antioxidant, antiallergic, antidiabetic, hepatoprotective, antitumor and insect repellent activity. In the present review, the literature on the phytochemical and pharmacological investigations of Tephrosia purpurea(L.) Pers. are summarized to August, 2012.

Correct Interpretation of Creep Rates: A Case Study of Cu

Traditionally the deformation resistance in creep is characterized by the minimum creep rate εmin and its sensitivity to stress （stress exponent n） and temperature （activation energy Q）. Various values of constant n have been reported in the literature and interpreted in terms of specific mechanisms. The present case study of coarse-grained Cu at 573 K yields a stress exponent n = 9 for εmin. in tension and a relatively low activation energy. The evolution of the deformation resistance with strain at constant tensile creep load and comparison with creep in compression without fracture indicates that the tensile εmin. result from transition from uniform deformation to strain localization during fracture. This is confirmed by the results of creep in compression where fracture is suppressed. Both the tensile εmin, and the compressive creep rate at strains around 0.3 can be described using existing equations for quasi-stationary deformation containing the subgrain boundary misorientation θ as structure parameter. While in the latter case constant θ leads to monotonic increase of n with stress, the tensile nine-power-law results from variable θ, and has no simple meaning. The result of this case study means that uncritical interpretation of minimum tensile creep rates as stationary ones bears a high risk of systematic errors in the determination of creep parameters and identification of creep mechanisms.

Impact of antibacterial drugs on human serum paraoxonase-1(hPON1)activity:an in vitro study

Quality of life after curative liver resection: A single center analysis

AIM: To evaluate quality of life (QoL) after curative liver resection and identify variables associated with decreased QoL. METHODS: From October 2001 to July 2004, 323 patients underwent liver resection. At 3-36 mo after discharge, 188 patients were disease free. QoL was assessed using the Short Form (SF)-12 Health Survey with mental and physical component scales (SF-12 MCS and PCS), supplemented with generic questions concerning pain and liver-specific items. RESULTS: Sixty-eight percent (128/188) returned the questionnaire, which was completed in 75% (96/128) of cases. Median SF-12 PCS and MCS were 46.7 (inter- quartile range: 34.2-53.9) and 54.1 (42.8-58.2). Fifty percent were pain free with a median symptom score of 1.75 (1.38-2.13). PCS was higher after major hepatec-tomy [57% (55/96)] compared to minor resection (P = 0.0049), which represented an improved QoL. QoL was not affected by sex but by age compared to the general German population. MCS was higher after liver surgery for metastatic disease [55.9 (47.5-58.8)] compared to primary carcinoma [49.6 (36.5-55.1)] and benign disease [49.2 (37.7-56.3)] (P = 0.0317). There was no correlation between length of postoperative period and QoL. Pain, def iciencies in everyday life and a high symptom score significantly decreased MCS and PCS. CONCLUSION: Most patients were only marginally affected even after major liver resection; however, minor complications were associated with decreased SF-12 MCS and PCS and need careful attention.
