Phytodiversity and Vulnerability of Protected Areas in Burkina Faso: Case of Péni Classified Forest

Protected areas contain most of Burkina Faso’s plant biodiversity which confer different benefits for the communities. However, the composition of some of them remains unknown. In a context of overexploitation and climate change, it is important to have a detailed knowledge of the vegetation of forests that have not been studied, such as Péni Classified Forest (PCF) to develop better preservation protocols. The aim of this study is to contribute to the knowledge of the flora of Burkina Faso. Phytosociological surveys were carried out in 213 plots, have identified 475 species distributed in 321 genera and 87 families. We identified during this study 201 woody species representing 38% of the woody flora of Burkina Faso. 64% of this flora is confined to shrub savannahs and 61% to tree savannahs. Among the vegetation units, shrub savannahs and tree savannahs have respectively 56.21% and 44.67% of very rare species. Poaceae (11.90%), Fabaceae-Faboideae (11.27%) and Rubiaceae (6.26%) are the most dominant families. The dominant biological types of the flora are phanerophytes (42.32%) and therophytes (30.32%), and Sudanian species (20.63%) are the best represented. Logging is the most frequent disturbance factor (100%) in the PCF. The PCF is a particular ecosystem with a great diversity but subject to many disturbances. Actions to strengthen its protection are necessary.

Adsorption behavior and mechanism of D113 resin for lanthanum

The sorption properties of macroporous weak acid resin （D113） for La^3＋ ion were studied by chemical analysis and ir spectra. Experimental results indicate that the D113 resin has a good adsorption ability for La^3＋ at pH = 6.0 in the HAc-NaAc medium. The statically saturated adsorption capacity is 273.3 mg/g. Separation coefficients of βLa^3＋/Ce^3＋, βLa^3＋/Gd^3＋, βLa^3＋/Er^3＋, and βLa^3＋/Y^3＋ are 2.29, 3.64, 4.27, and 0.627, respectively. The apparent activation energy of adsorption, Ea is 18.4 kJ/mol, the thermodynamics parameters AH, AS, and AG of sorption are 4.53 kJ/mol, 61.8 J/（mol·K）, -13.9 kJ/mol, respectively. The adsorption behavior of D113 for La^3＋ obeys the Freundlich isotherm. La^3＋adsorbed on resin can be eluted by 2.0 mol/L HCl quantitatively.

Soil contains a great diversity of microorganisms, among which are bacteria. This study aimed to explore bacterial diversity in soil samples in Brazzaville in the Republic of the Congo. Environmental DNA was extracted. The illumina MiSeq sequencing was held and the diversity indices have been computed. Illumina MiSeq sequencing revealed 21 Phyla, four of which were abundant: Proteobacteria, Acidobacteria, Actinobacteria and Bacteroidetes. Soil microbial communities in the studied samples were phylogenetically diverse but with a stable community structure. 17 classes are represented with relative abundances of Rihzobiales, Bacillales, Actinomycetales and Acidobacteriales. 40 families, the Alphaproteobacteria, the Bacilli and the 12 Actinobacteria. 83 orders among which the Rhizobiales are the most abundant followed by Bacillales and the least abundant followed by the Flavobacteriaceae. Of the 28 genera listed, the Bradyrhizobium is the most dominant in Mw3 and Mw4. 25 listed species, Bradyrhizobium, Bacillus, Actinoplanes, and Candidatu coribacter Acidobacterium are the most abundant species. The Shannon indices of Mw3 and Mw4 are equal, the H’max of Mw4 is greater than the H’max of Mw3. The Simpson index of Mw4 is equal to the Simpson index of Mw3, and the Pielou index (J) of Mw4 is less than the R of Mw3, but very close. This study opens interesting perspectives on the knowledge and exploitation of telluric bacteria in several areas of life.

Phylogenetic placement of Cynomorium in Rosales inferred from sequences of the inverted repeat region of the chloroplast genome

Cynomorium is a herbaceous holoparasite that has been placed in Santalales,Saxifragales,Myrtales, or *** inverted repeat(ir)region of the chloroplast genome region is slow evolving and,unlike mitochondrial genes,the chloroplast genome experiences few horizontal gene transfers between the host and parasite. Thus,in the present study,we used sequences of the ir region to test the phylogenetic placements of Cynomorium. Phylogenetic analyses of the chloroplast ir sequences generated largely congruent ordinal relationships with those from previous studies of angiosperm phylogeny based on single or multiple *** was closely related to Caryophyllales and *** formed a clade where Peridiscus was sister to the remainder of the order, whereas Paeonia was sister to the woody clade of *** is not closely related to Santalales, Saxifragales,Myrtales,or Sapindales;instead,it is included in Rosales and sister to *** various placements of the holoparasite on the basis of different regions of the mitochondrial genome may indicate the heterogeneous nature of the genome in the ***,it is unlikely that the placement of Cynomorium in Rosales is the result of chloroplast gene transfer because Cynomorium does not parasitize on rosaceous plants and there is no chloroplast gene transfer between Cynomorium and Nitraria,a confirmed host of Cynomorium and a member of Sapindales.

目的:比较盘尾丝虫病高流行地区和低流行地区的眼压分布状况。方法:用多级分组随机采样方法从2个盘尾丝虫病农村高流行地区选择调查对象,检查受试者眼球前后段,用Schiotz眼压计检查眼压(IOP)。对照组选自1个盘尾丝虫病低流行地区,并对其做相同的眼部检查。结果:共有360名来自盘尾丝虫病高流行地区的受试者接受检查,平均眼压为右眼18.1mmHg、左眼18.0mmHg。一个盘尾丝虫病低流行地区眼科门诊的100名非青光眼患者组成对照组,平均眼压为右眼21.8mmHg,左眼21.5mmHg。盘尾丝虫病高流行地区受试组的平均眼压比低流行地区对照组低3.5mmHg。结论:盘尾丝虫病有可能诱发睫状体轻微炎症反应,从而引起早期眼压降低。

目的:研究尼日利亚阿巴卡利基地区儿童眼病的分布特点。方法:回顾过去15mo就诊于阿巴卡利基联邦医疗中心眼科门诊的15岁及以下儿童的就诊资料,分析阿巴卡利基地区儿童眼病的分布规律。结果:241位儿童纳入了本次研究。其中男112位为(46.5%),女129位(53.5%)。儿童眼病主要以过敏性结膜炎、屈光不正、感染性结膜炎、眼球挫伤为主。其中过敏性结膜炎患者91人(37.8%),屈光不正37人(15.4%),感染性结膜炎30人(12.4%),眼球挫伤的患者27人(11.2%)结论:过敏性结膜炎及屈光不正为阿巴卡利基地区儿童常见的眼病。学前儿童进行眼科检查能有效的早期诊断治疗儿童眼病的发生,并能有效地预防其并发症的发生。

The Influence of Initial Management and Family Stress on Metabolic Control in Children with Type 1 Diabetes

The aim was to assess whether temporal changes in the initial management for children diagnosed with type 1 diabetes over a ten year period affected metabolic control two years after diagnosis. A further aim was to investigate if social factors, registered at diagnosis, had an impact on metabolic control two years after diagnosis. During the years 1997-2006, 247 children and adolescents were diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at a University Hospital in Sweden. The analysed data included HbA1c, pH at diagnosis, initial intravenous insulin infusion and length of hospital stay at diag?nosis, subcutaneous insulin type, number of diabetes check-up visits, emergency visits, re-admissions and social factors. Length of hospital stay decreased significantly over the ten year period. Neither hospital stay nor differences in insulin treatment was significantly correlated with children’s metabolic control over time. Length of hospital stay was not re?lated with families’ social stress situation. However, girls in families with more family stress at the time of diagnosis had higher HbA1c during follow-up than girls with less family stress or boys. Factors of importance for the child’s long-term metabolic control need to be further investigated so the initial management can be tailored to each individual family’s needs. This would imply an effective utilization of both families’ and health care resources.
