3′-Daidzein sulfonate sodium improves mitochondrial functions after cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury

3′-Daidzein sulfonate sodium is a new synthetic water-soluble compound derived from daidzein（an active ingredient of the kudzu vine root）. It has been shown to have a protective effect on cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury in rats. We plan to study the mechanism of its protective effect. 3′-Daidzein sulfonate sodium was injected in rats after cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury. Results showed that 3′-daidzein sulfonate sodium significantly reduced mitochondrial swelling, significantly elevated the mitochondrial membrane potential, increased mitochondrial superoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase activities, and decreased mitochondrial malondialdehyde levels. 3′-Daidzein sulfonate sodium improved the structural integrity of the blood-brain barrier and reduced blood-brain barrier permeability. These findings confirmed that 3′-daidzein sulfonate sodium has a protective effect on mitochondrial functions after cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury, improves brain energy metabolism, and provides protection against blood-brain barrier damage.

Based on the latest displacement of Huoshan piedmont fault, Mianshan west-side fault and Taigu fault obtained from the beginning of 1990s up to the present, the characteristics of distribution and displacement of surface rup-ture zone of the 1303 Hongtong M = 8 earthquake, Shanxi Province are synthesized and discussed in the paper. If Taigu fault, Mianshan west-side fault and Huoshan piedmont fault were contemporarily active during the 1303 Hongtong M = 8 earthquake, the surface rupture zone would be 160 km long and could be divided into 3 segments, that is, the 50-km-long Huoshan piedmont fault segment, 35-km-long Mianshan west-side fault segment and 70-km-long Taigu fault segment, respectively. Among them, there exist 4 km and 8 km step regions. The surface rupture zone exhibits right-lateral features. The displacements of northern and central segments are respectively 6~7 m and the southern segment has the maximum displacement of 10 m. The single basin-boundary fault of Shanxi fault-depression system usually corresponds to M 7 earthquake, while this great earthquake (M = 8) broke through the obstacle between two basins. It shows that the surface rupture scale of great earthquake is changeable.

背景:髌股关节并发症是全膝关节置换后的常见并发症,置换中股骨假体旋转不良会影响髌股关节的一致性,引起髌股关节接触力及运动学的改变。目的:通过有限元分析方法,研究全膝关节置换中当股骨假体在不同旋转角度放置时屈膝过程中的髌股关节接触压变化。方法:根据志愿者右膝关节的CT、MRI数据,建立自然膝关节的三维模型。模拟全膝关节置换过程,股骨假体参照股骨外科上髁轴线(股骨内侧髁沟与股骨外侧髁最凸起点之间的连线)以3°为增量,从内旋6°至外旋9°安装(外旋3°、6°、9°,旋转0°,内旋3°、6°),而胫骨假体参考Akagi线(髌腱内侧缘与后交叉韧带止点中央的连线)旋转0°固定放置,建立全膝关节置换膝关节三维模型。将膝关节的三维模型进行网格划分,得到膝关节的有限元模型,并通过计算提取,获得各膝关节模型在屈膝过程中的髌股关节接触压。结果与结论:(1)所有模型的髌股关节接触压均随着膝关节屈曲加深而增高。股骨假体外旋3°组的髌股关节接触压均低于旋转0°组,当外旋大于3°时,随着假体外旋度数增加,髌股关节接触压增大。股骨假体内旋3°组和内旋6°组在屈膝过程中的髌股关节接触压明显高于其他组,且内旋6°组的接触压最高。(2)结果表明在全膝关节置换术中,当以上髁轴为股骨假体旋转的参考轴线时,外旋3°有可能减少髌股关节接触压,而过度的外旋股骨假体则可能导致髌股关节接触压的增大;置换中应避免股骨假体内旋,大于3°的内旋不良可能会导致髌股关节接触压明显增大,增加置换后膝前疼痛以及假体磨损的风险。

Brewery grains have a long history in animal feed. This use in animal feed nevertheless poses a problem, that of bad odors due to the sometimes too long shelf life of spent grains. The objective of this work is to recover spent grains from the BB brewery in Lomé by composting in order to stabilize them. A compost based solely on spent grains was produced after 5 months. The physico-chemical and spectroscopic characterizations at the end of the composting process revealed that the compost obtained has interesting properties with a pH = 7.01;a C/N ratio of 13.7 and a low level of heavy metals (Pb = 1.23 mg/kg, Cd = 0.04 mg/kg etc.).

The main cash crop in Togo is cotton, with about 70% of agricultural exports. This crop is very dependent on the use of chemical inputs, in particular pesticides. Pesticides used in cotton farming in Togo include organochlorines, triazines, organophosphates and pyrethroids. We conducted a study on the impact of these pesticide use, in particular organochlorines and triazines, on cotton farming soils. We chose the Plateaux region (southern Togo) as the study area because of its high cotton production. Analysis was carried out on crop soil samples at the 0 - 20 cm horizon. Several pesticide residues were found: simazine (0.051 to 0.103 μg/Kg soil);atrazine (0.149 to 0.197 μg/Kg soil);lindane (0.259 to 0.672 μg/Kg soil);β-endosulfan (1.37 to 5.727 μg/Kg soil);dieldrin (0.063 to 1.16 μg/Kg soil);endrin (0.512 μg/Kg soil), Heptachlor (0.489 to 1.243 μg/Kg soil);Heptachlor epoxide (0.928 to 1.633 μg/Kg soil);[2,4'DDT] (0.257 μg/Kg soil);[4,4'DDE] (0.262 μg/Kg soil). These results show pesticide contamination of cotton farming soils.

Objective:To investigate the levels of serum Cortisol in patients with uncomplicated Plasmodium falciparum(***) malaria in an area of unstable malaria transmission in eastern Sudan. Methods:The concentrations of Cortisol were measured in sera of 25 patients with uncomplicated *** malaria(at presentation,24 h and 7 d later) and 25 healthy volunteers using radioimmunoassay gamma ***:There was no significant difference in mean(SD) of total Cortisol levels in patients with malaria in comparison with the control group;602.2(369.6) vs. 449.2(311.7) ng/mL,P=*** patients with uncomplicated *** malaria,the mean(SD) presenting Cortisol levels were significantly higher in comparison to the levels on day 7;602.2 (369.6) vs.373.6(139.1) ng/mL,P=*** the patients with uncomplicated *** malaria (on presentation) Cortisol levels were not correlated with initial temperature or the presenting ***:Thus,Cortisol levels were not significantly different between the patients and the controls.
