Gallbladder tuberculosis (GT) is an extremely rare disease, and very few cases have been reported in the literature. The first case of GT was described in 1870 by Gaucher. A correct preoperative diagnosis of GT is unusual, and it is frequently confused with various gallbladder diseases. We present a new case of a patient who underwent surgery with the preoperative diagnosis of gallbladder cancer after a false positive positron emission tomography scan in the diagnostic work-up.

High pressure responsive luminescence of flexible Eu^(3+) doped PVDF fibrous mats

Exploring lanthanide doped materials and their high-pressure optical properties is important from the perspective of designing pressure sensors, piezoelectric materials, scintillators, and optoelectronic devices, just to mention a few. Understanding the high-pressure optical properties of polymeric fibrous mats provides significant advantages in terms of flexibility, tuna.ility, fa.ile processa.ility, and mallea.ility. In this work, we have developed flexible polyvinylidene difluoride(PVDF) fibrous mats doped with an Eu^(3+) source of Eu(NO_(3))_(3)·5H_(2)O(EN-PF) or Eu_(2)(SO_(4))_(3)(ES-PF) by a Forcespinning■ method. Microstructural analysis of these two systems indicates that Eu(NO_(3))_(3)·5H_(2)O and Eu_(2)(SO_(4))_(3) are homogeneously distributed and dispersed into the PVDF matrix. Fiber formation promotes a β-phase PVDF. Eu^(3+) doping increases the β-phase. Its fraction is larger for the ES-PF mats. To understand their high-pressure optical properties, their photoluminescence spectra have been taken at various pressures up to 58 GPa in a diamond anvil cell. High-pressure luminescence illustrates a clear change in asymmetry ratio, peak intensity, peak breadth, color coordinate, and color temperature of Eu^(3+) ions from both EN-PF and ES-PF with a different extent of changes. Specifically, Eu^(3+) ions in the ES-PF mats switch from asymmetric to symmetric environment as pressure increases. Those in the EN-PF mats present symmetric environment for all tested pressures. Both of the Eu^(3+) doped PVDF systems present irreversible changes. Therefore,the EN-PF fibrous mats present an opportunity to make pressure induced red-orange-yellow tunable phosphors for multifunctional applications.

AIM： To verify the expression and methylation status of the maGE-A1 and maGE-A3 genes in colorectal cancer tissues and cancer cell lines. METHODS： We evaluated promoter demethylation status of the maGE-A1 and maGE-A3 genes by RT-PCR analysis and methylation-specific PCR （MS-PCR）, as well as sequencing analysis, after sodium bisulfite modification in 32 colorectal cancer cell lines and 87 cancer tissues. RESULTS： Of the 32 cell lines, maGE-A1 and maGE-A3 expressions were observed in 59% and 66%, respectively. Subsequent to sodium bisulfite modification and MSPCR analysis, the promoter hypomethylation of maGE-A1 and maGE-A3 was confirmed in both at 81% each. Promoter hypomethylation of maGE-A1 and maGE-A3 in colorectal cancer tissues was observed in 43% and 77%, respectively. Hypomethylation of maGE-A1 and maGE-A3 genes in corresponding normal tissues were observed in 2% and 6%, respectively. CONCLUSION： The promoter hypomethylation of maGE genes up-regulates its expression in colorectal carcinomas as well as in gastric cancers and might play a significant role in the development and progression of human colorectal carcinomas.

In this report, we describe morphological characteristics of a dicephalic Steppes Ratsnake （Elaphe dione） collected from the wild in 2011 in South korea. The specimen has two heads and two long necks. Unlike normal individuals, the dicephalic snake has divided ventral scales under the necks of the bifurcated columns. The snout- vent length （SVL） and overall total length of the individual are shorter than those of normal snakes of the same age. Nevertheless, the counts of nine different scale types that are often used for classification are all within the ranges of normal individuals. As far as we know, this is the first detailed morphological description of a dicephalic E. dione in the scientific literature.

AIM:To investigate whether expressing biliary phenotype predicted poor outcome after the surgical treatment in primary liver cancers. METHODS:Out of 204 patients that underwent liver resection due to hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), liver specimens of 70 patients with HCC were evaluated for biliary components by cytokeratin (Ck) 19 immunostain (Ck19 - HCC and Ck19 + HCC). Ck19 positivity was defined as membranous and/or cytoplasmic expression in ≥ 5% of tumor cells with moderate or strong intensity. Patients with other primary liver cancers, such as com- bined HCC and cholangiocarcinoma (cHCC-CC), intrahe- patic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) who received curative liver resection, were also included in the study. Clinical characteristics of Ck19-HCC and Ck19 + HCC patients, including survival outcome after curative liver resection, were compared with that of cHCC-CC and ICC patients. RESULTS: The overall survival (OS) rate of Ck19 - HCC(n = 49) after the curative surgical treatment was 90.7%, and 80.4% at 1 and 5 years after the resection. OS rate of Ck19 + HCC (n = 21) was 74.3%, 28.9% and OS rate of cHCC-CC (n = 22) was 66.7%, 32.2% at 1 and 5 years after the surgery. For ICC (n = 19), 1 and 5-year-OS rate was 50.2% and 14.3% after the cura-tive resection. The OS rates of Ck19 + HCC and cHCC-CC were significantly lower than that of Ck19-HCC, but higher than the OS rate of ICC (P = 0.000). There was no statistically significant difference in OS rate between Ck19 + HCC and cHCC-CC. The disease free survival (DFS) rate of Ck19-HCC was 72.0% and 54.5% at 1 and 3 years after the surgical treatment. DFS rate of Ck19 + HCC was 53.3%, 34.3% and DFS rate of cHCC- CC was 51.5%, 39.2% at 1 and 3 years after the resection. For ICC, 1 and 3-year-DFS rate was 28.0% and 14.0% after the curative resection. DFS rate of Ck19-HCC was significantly higher than that of ICC (P = 0.017), but marginally higher than DFS rate of either Ck19 + HCC or cHCC-CC (P = 0.097, P = 0.089, respec-tively).

In this work,the thermal conductivity of alkaline earth borate melts was measured using hot-wire method from 1323 to 1623 k,and the thermal diffusivity was extrapolated from the thermal conductivity and heat *** compositional dependence of thermophysical properties was interpreted according to the structure in short-range and intermediate-range *** on the Raman spectroscopy,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS),and 11B magic-angle spinning nuclear magnetic resonance(maS-NMR)spectra,modifier cation with higher field strength prefers the formation of non-bridging oxygens(NBOs)for the charge compensation at high BO_(1.5)/MO ratios.A lower amount of covalent bond and greater isolation of large borate groups lead to a lower thermal conductivity in calcium borate melt compared with strontium and barium *** the large size of Ba^(2+)encounters difficulty in fitting around B^[4]-OB^[4]linkages inside the overcrowded large borate groups when BO_(1.5)/BaO=2.5,promoting the formation of NBOs on the edge of borate groups for the charge compensation of modifier cations and leading to the decline in the thermal *** conductivity plays a major role in regulating the thermal diffusivity at a given temperature since the compositional dependence of volumetric heat capacity is relatively weak compared with that of thermal conductivity.

The oxidative reaction between lanthanum trichloride and oxide ion was studied in the molten LiCl-kCl eutectic at 773 k by in-situ Raman spectroscopy using an yttria-sta.ilized zirconia electrode in conjunction with electrochemical *** formation of lanthanum oxychloride,LaOCl(s),was confirmed by studying the vibrational properties of crystalline LaOCl and X-ray diffraction *** solubility product of LaOCl in the LiCl-kCl molten eutectic at 773 k is found to be pksp(LaOCl)=7.569±0.100,by combining the results of Raman spectroscopy and potentiometric titration with the addition of barium *** use of Raman spectroscopic quantitation of dissolved lanthanum ions in the system allows faster and more accurate determination of the stable phase of lanthanum as well as the solubility product of LaOCl compared with that measured by potentiometric titration *** on experimentally obtained pksp and standard equilibrium potentials,the potentialpO2- phase diagram of lanthanum in the molten LiCl-kCl eutectic was reported.
