In this study,the effects of Al addition on the corrosion behavior of pure Mg with controlled impurity contents were systematically analyzed according to the processing *** results revealed that the corrosion behavior of high-purity Mg-Al alloys is strongly related to changes in the microstructure,including theβphase and Al-Mn or Al-Fe phases,and the protectiveness of the surface film according to the Al content and processing *** the as-cast alloys,the corrosion rate increased due to the increase ofβphase as the Al content increased,but in the as-extruded alloys,the corrosion rate,which was high due to intermetallic compounds caused by impurities in the low Al alloy,decreased as the Al content increased,and then increased *** is due to the combined effect of the increase of theβphase and decrease of the impurity effect,and the increase of the dissolved Al *** results suggest that it is necessary to analyze the effect of alloying elements on the corrosion behavior of pure Mg with information concerning the impurity content and processing history.

This paper aims to optimize total energy costs in an operational model of a novel energy hub(EH) in a residential area. The optimization problem is set up based on daily load demand(such as electricity, heat, and cooling) and time-of-use(TOU) energy prices. The extended EH model considers the involvement of solar photovoltaic(PV) generation, solar heat exchanger(SHE), and a battery energy storage system(BESS). A mathematical model is constructed with the objective of optimizing total energy cost during the day, including some constraints such as input-output energy balance of the EH, electricity price,capacity limitation of the system, and charge/discharge power of BESS. Four operational cases based on different EH structures are compared to assess the effect of solar energy applications and BESS on the operational efficiency. The results show that the proposed model predicts significant changes to the characteristics of electricity and gas power bought from utilities, leading to reduced total energy cost compared to other cases. They also indicate that the model is appropriate for the characteristics of residential loads.

Increasing demand for real-time healthcare monitoring is leading to advances in thin and flexible optoelectronic device-based wearable pulse *** previous studies have used OLEDs for this purpose,but did not consider the side effects of broad full-width half-maximum(FWHM)characteristics and single *** this study,we performed SpO_(2)measurement using a fiber-based quantum-dot pulse oximetry(FQPO)system capable of mass production with a transferable encapsulation technique,and a narrow FWHM of about 30 *** on analyses we determined that uniform angular narrow FWHM-based light sources are important for accurate SpO_(2)measurements through multi-layer structures and human skin *** FQPO was shown to have improved photoplethysmogram(PPG)signal sensitivity with no waveguide-mode noise signal,as is typically generated when using a single substrate(30–50%).We successfully demonstrate improved SpO_(2)measurement accuracy as well as all-in-one clothing-type pulse oximetry with FQPO.

Convenience rice has become widely popular due to its easy availability for cooking. This study investigated the starch structure and composition of leachate and the microstructure of reheated convenience rice using novel processing technologies: super-heated steaming(SHS), auto-electric cooking(AEC), and pressurized-steam cooking(PSC). Additionally, the effect of two different target water contents(58% and 63%) was also evaluated. The PSC_63% sample had the highest total solids and amylopectin amount in the leachate. The amylopectin amount in the leachate differed significantly based on the targeted water content. Morphological characterization revealed that the swelling of starch and the coated layer on the surface of rice grains were most pronounced in the PSC_63% sample due to the pressure processing. The textural hardness of the AEC_58% sample was much higher than that of the other samples. The PSC_63% sample had the highest textural adhesiveness value, which can be attributed to the highest amylopectin amount in the leachate. Sensory characterization showed that the PSC_63% sample had the highest glossiness, whiteness, moistness, and overall acceptability. The principal component analysis score plots presented substantial differences in the leachate and textural and sensory characteristics of reheated convenience rice among the different processing technologies.

Modified kaolin-filled polypropylene was prepared by blending different kinds of modified kaolin intercalated master batches with *** microstructure of PP/Kaolin was studied with X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) *** effects of the organic kaolin master batches on the crystallization property of polypropylene were investigated by means of non-isothermal differential scanning calorimetry analysis (DSC) and polarized light microscopy (PLM).Non-isothermal crystallization kinetics of polypropylene was studied by the use of modified Avrami Equation improved by *** results indicate that some organic kaolin can be exfoliated by polypropylene,proved by an in-visible 001 peak on XRD pattern and individual layer on transmission electron microscopy (TEM) photos,and the heterogeneous nucleus increased with the addition of modified kaolin,proved by the PLM *** filled polypropylene crystallizes fastest at 395 *** results also show that organic kaolin master batches not only can effectively accelerate the heterogeneous nucleation of polypropylene but also can increase the rate of crystallizing point and the temperature of ***,the rate constant of crystallization remains unchanged.

Study on SCR De NO_x mechanism through in situ electrical conductivity measurements on V_2O_5-WO_3/TiO_2 catalysts

V2O5-WO3/TiO2 catalysts were prepared by impregnation method and in situ electrical conductivity measurements were carried out to investigate the reaction mechanism for ammonia SCR (selective catalytic reduction) of NOx. The electrical conductivity change with ammonia supply and the increase of electrical conductivity were mainly caused by reduction of the labile surface oxygen. The electrical conductivity change of catalysts shows close relationship with the conversion rate of NOx. Variation of conversion rate in atmosphere without gaseous oxygen also supports that the labile lattice oxygen is indispensable in the initial stage of the de NOx reaction. These results suggest that the liable lattice oxygen acts decisive role in the de NOx mechanism. They also support that De NOx reaction occurs through the Eley-Rideal type mechanism. The amount of labile oxygen can be estimated from the measurement of electrical conductivity change for catalysts with ammonia supply.

Greenhouse Building Energy Simulation(BES)models were developed to estimate the energy load using TRNSYS(ver.16,University of Wisconsin,USA),a commercial BES *** was conducted based on data recorded during field *** BES greenhouse modeling is reliable,as validation showed 5.2%and 5.5%compared with two field experiments,*** the next step,the heating characteristics of the greenhouses were analyzed to predict the maximum and annual total heating loads based on the greenhouse types and target locations in the Republic of Korea using the validated greenhouse *** BES-computed results indicated that the annual heating load was greatly affected by the local climate conditions of the target *** annual heating load of greenhouses located in Chuncheon,the northernmost region,was 44.6%higher than greenhouses in Jeju,the southernmost area among the studied *** regression models for prediction of maximum heating load of Venlo type greenhouse and widespan type greenhouse were developed based on the BES computed results to easily predict maximum heating load at field and they explained nearly 95%and 80%of the variance in the data set used,respectively,with the predictor *** a BES model of geothermal energy system was additionally designed and incorporated into the BES greenhouse *** feasibility of the geothermal energy system for greenhouse was estimated through economic analysis.

We propose a method for histogram equalization using supplement sets to improve the performance of speaker recognition when the training and test utterances are very short. The supplement sets are derived using outputs of selection or clustering algorithms from the background speakers' utterances. The proposed approach is used as a feature normalization method for building histograms when there are insufficient input utterance *** addition, the proposed method is used as an i-vector normalization method in an i-vector-based probabilistic linear discriminant analysis(PLDA) system, which is the current state-of-the-art for speaker verification. The ranks of sample values for histogram equalization are estimated in ascending order from both the input utterances and the supplement set. New ranks are obtained by computing the sum of different kinds of ranks. Subsequently, the proposed method determines the cumulative distribution function of the test utterance using the newly defined ranks. The proposed method is compared with conventional feature normalization methods, such as cepstral mean normalization(CMN), cepstral mean and variance normalization(MVN), histogram equalization(HEQ), and the European Telecommunications Standards Institute(ETSI) advanced front-end methods. In addition, performance is compared for a case in which the greedy selection algorithm is used with fuzzy C-means and K-means *** YOHO and Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute(ETRI) databases are used in an evaluation in the feature space. The test sets are simulated by the Opus Vo IP codec. We also use the 2008 National Institute of Standards and Technology(NIST) speaker recognition evaluation(SRE) corpus for the i-vector system. The results of the experimental evaluation demonstrate that the average system performance is improved when the proposed method is used, compared to the conventional feature normalization methods.
