Development of Centella asiatica beverages with potential antioxidant and prebiotic activity for maintaining intestinal health

Herbal beverages with antioxidant and prebiotic properties are promising nutraceutical candidates to prevent or cure various intestinal diseases that involve oxidative stress and/or imbalance of gut *** this study,partial chemical characterization of the small molecule(ethanol soluble)and polymeric(ethanol precipitated and TCA precipitated)fractions of two types of beverages(Centella asiatica beverages;decoction and infusion)from Centella asiatica were ***-two compounds with known record of antioxidant or anti-inflammation effect were identified in both *** targeted fractions of two beverages had reducing capacity and free radical scavenging *** in vitro antioxidant capacity of both beverages and their indi-vidual fractions was further confirmed in H_(2)O_(2) stressed Saccharomyces cerevisea ***,the lipid peroxidation lessening ability was only observed in the small molecule *** results suggested that different types of molecules in beverages can succeed via multiple mechanisms to reverse the oxidative stress in *** a separate experiment,both beverages could significantly retard the growth of the gastrointestinal pathogen Bacillus *** the other hand,the CABs promoted growth of a well-known probiotic strain Lac-ticaseibacillus rhamnosus ATCC 53103 when tested individually as well as when grown together with Bacillus *** study suggests that the beverages may balance antioxidant status as well as maintain quantity and diversity of microbiota to protect intestinal ***,a framework has been put forward to highlight the possible sites of intestine where an herbal beverage can act to prevent and cure some of the intestinal diseases.

To pursue the ideal of a safe high-tech society in a time when traffic accidents are frequent,the traffic signs detection system has become one of the necessary topics in recent years and in the *** ultimate goal of this research is to identify and classify the types of traffic signs in a panoramic *** accomplish this goal,the paper proposes a new model for traffic sign detection based on the Convolutional Neural Network for com-prehensive traffic sign classification and Mask Region-based Convolutional Neural Networks(R-CNN)implementation for identifying and extracting signs in panoramic *** augmentation and normalization of the images are also applied to assist in classifying better even if old traffic signs are degraded,and considerably minimize the rates of discovering the extra *** proposed model is tested on both the testing dataset and the actual images and gets 94.5%of the correct signs recognition rate,the classification rate of those signs discovered was 99.41%and the rate of false signs was only around 0.11.

In this article,an analytical method is proposed to analyze of the linear buckling behavior of the FG porous truncated conical shells subjected to a uniform axial compressive load and resting on the Pasternak elastic *** material properties including Young’s modulus,shear modulus and density are assumed to vary in the thickness *** types of FG porous distributions including symmetric porosity distribution,non-symmetric porosity and uniform porosity distribution are *** governing equations of the FG porous truncated conical shells are obtained by using the first-order shear deformation theory(FSDT).With the help of the Galerkin method,the expressions for critical buckling loads are obtained in closed *** reliability of the obtained results is verified by comparing the present solutions with the published ***,the numerical results show the effects of shell characteristics,porosity distribution,porosity coefficient,and elastic foundation on the critical buckling load.

Analysis and Intervention of Severe Acute Malnutrition in Children at an Urban Public School in Mumbai, India

Background: There is a dearth of information regarding trends of malnutrition and weight status in children from rapidly developing economies like India. Objectives: The aim of this study is to analyze the dynamics of malnutrition in a group of school children from India, and then provide interventions for the children that have severe acute malnutrition. Methods: Children that were found to lie between −3 to −4 SD of parameters of BMI, height for age and weight for age were labeled as SAM. Children that were screened for wasting and fell between −2 to −4 SD were also included under the label of SAM. All participants were also given a prototype 1500-calorie diet to follow for the entire duration and 6 weekly sessions were taken for the parents on various topics on nutrition. Results: Quantitative analysis showed a great improvement in weights and heights of severely malnourished children. The average increase in weight of all children that participated in the study was 9.09% and the average increase in height was 1.39%. The weekly sessions given to the parents on various nutrition topics could be the cause of high compliance to the diet given to the children. Conclusion: Malnutrition is still a very big problem in developing countries like India. Basic interventions like an improvement in diet, education about micronutrients and balanced diet, and food-based interventions in severe malnutrition can lead to a great improvement in the health and development status of children.

Environmental pollution has had substantial impacts on human life,and trash is one of the main sources of such pollution in most *** classi-ﬁcation from a collection of trash images can limit the overloading of garbage dis-posal systems and efﬁciently promote recycling activities;thus,development of such a classiﬁcation system is topical and *** paper proposed an effective trash classiﬁcation system that relies on a classiﬁcation module embedded in a hard-ware setup to classify trash in real *** image dataset isﬁrst augmented to enhance the images before classifying them as either inorganic or organic *** deep learning–based ResNet-50 model,an improved version of the ResNet model,is used to classify trash from the dataset of trash *** experimental results,which are tested both on the dataset and in real time,show that ResNet-50 had an average accuracy of 96%,higher than that of related ***,integrating the classiﬁcation module into a Raspberry Pi computer,which con-trolled the trash bin slide so that garbage fell into the appropriate bin for inorganic or organic waste,created a complete trash classiﬁcation *** proves the efﬁciency and high applicability of the proposed system.

Results of Testing Maize Hybrids on Lands Shifting from Rice-Growing Areas of Less Efficiency in the Mekong Delta

Forecasters predict that by 2020 there will be 4.5 or 5 million tons per annum maize supply deficiency in Vietnam. As a result of this projection, the government responded by shifting 80,000 ha of low-efficiency rice production areas into maize production （2014-2015） and this area of production for maize is expected to increase to 150,000 ha by 2016-2020. Nevertheless, not all commercial maize hybrids could be suitable for rice-growing land in the Mekong Delta and a national project of hybrid maize development for Mekong Delta has been conducted since early 2014. In the project, yield trials of 20 maize hybrids, sourced from Vietnamese institutions and the private sector including Syngenta （NK67） and Dekalb （DK9901）, were sown in Dong Thap, Hau Giang and Long An provinces situated in the Mekong Delta, in minor acid sulphate soils with a pH of 5.0-5.5. The trial included three replications in an Alpha lattice design conducted during spring-summer in 2014. The hybrids flowered at 50-52 d after planting and physiologically matured between 93-97 d after planting. This suggested they would be suitable for cropping systems, which was comprised of three seasons per year. To determine which hybrid is best suited for the region, researchers evaluated yield and ear characteristics. The average yield of the genotypes across locations was 52.03, 54.92 and 57.60 quintals/ha, respectively, and the heritability of genotypes in each location was 0.51, 0.81 and 0.61, respectively. The mean yield of DK9901 was 58.19 quintals/ha, ranking the 7th among 20 hybrids, and NK67 was 47.58 quintals/ha, ranking the 19th. The grand mean was 54.92 quintals/ha and heritability for all genotypes was 0.79. The highest yield was produced by the Southern seed company hybrid SSC474 （69.39 quintals/ha）, which yielded significantly more maize than DK9901 （58.19 quintals/ha） at P 〈 0.05, followed by VS71 from National Maize Research Institute （NMRI） at 63.52 quintals/ha, and LCH9A from NMRI at 63.39 quin

Alcohol-induced Wnt signaling inhibition during bone fracture healing is normalized by intermittent parathyroid hormone treatment

Nearly half of orthopaedic trauma patients are intoxicated at the time of injury, and excess alcohol consumption increases the risk for fracture nonunion. Previous studies show alcohol disrupts fracture associated Wnt signaling required for normal bone fracture repair. Intermittent parathyroid hormone(PTH) promotes bone growth through canonical Wnt signaling, however, no studies have investigated the effect of PTH on alcohol-inhibited bone fracture repair. Male C57 BL/6 mice received two-3 day alcohol binges separated by 4 days before receiving a mid-shaft tibia fracture. Postoperatively, mice received PTH daily until euthanasia. Wnt/β-catenin signaling was analyzed at 9 days post-fracture. As previously observed, acute alcohol exposure resulted in a >2-fold decrease in total and the active form of β-catenin and a 2-fold increase in inactive β-catenin within the fracture callus. Intermittent PTH abrogated the effect of alcohol on β-catenin within the fracture callus. Upstream of β-catenin, alcohol-treated animals had a 2-fold decrease in total LRP6, the Wnt co-receptor, which was restored with PTH treatment. Alcohol nor PTH had any significant effect on GSK-3β. These data show that intermittent PTH following a tibia fracture restores normal expression of Wnt signaling proteins within the fracture callus of alcohol-treated mice.

Introduction:Economic evaluation studies demonstrate the value of money in health interventions and enhance the efficiency of the healthcare ***,this study reviews published economic evaluation studies of public health interventions from 26 Middle East and North Africa(MENA)countries and examines whether they addressed the region’s major health ***:PubMed and Scopus were utilized to search for relevant articles published up to June 26,*** reviewers independently selected studies,extracted data,and assessed the quality of studies using the Consolidated Health Economic Evaluation Reporting Standards(CHEERS)***:The search identified 61 *** half(28 studies;46%)were conducted in Israel and *** main areas of interest for economic evaluation studies were infectious diseases(21 studies;34%),cancers(13 studies;21%),and genetic disorders(nine studies;15%).Five(8%),39(64%),16(26%),and one(2%)studies were classified as excellent,high,average,and poor quality,*** mean of CHEERS checklist items reported was 80.8%(SD 14%).Reporting the structure and justification of the selected model was missed in 21 studies(37%),while price and conversion rates and the analytical methods were missed in 21 studies(34%).Conclusions:The quantity of economic evaluation studies on public health interventions in the MENA region remains low;however,the overall quality is high to *** were obvious geographic gaps across countries regarding the number and quality of studies and gaps within countries concerning disease *** observed research output,however,did not reflect current and upcoming disease burden and risk factors trends in the MENA region.
