AiM To investigate the utility of hepatitis B surface antigen(HBsAg) kinetics in chronic hepatitis B patients during long-term entecavir *** This retrospective study included treatment-na?ve chronic hepatitis B patients who received at least 2 years of consecutive entecavir treatment. Patients were followed up at three to six month intervals with liver biochemistry, hepatitis B virus DNA, and abdominal sonography. in hepatitis B e antigen(HBeAg)-positive patients, HBeAg levels were assessed every three to six month until results became negative. Serum HBsAg levels were determined at the baseline, oneyear and five-year time points. Liver cirrhosis was diagnosed through liver biopsy, imaging examinations, or clinical findings of portal hypertension. Hepatocellular carcinoma was diagnosed by histological examination or dynamic image *** A total of 211 patients were enrolled. The median treatment time was 5.24(2.00-9.62) years. Multivariate analysis showed that lower baseline HBsAg levels were associated with an earlier virological response, earlier hepatitis B e antigen(HBeAg) seroconversion, and earlier biochemical response in HBeAg-positive patients(cut-off value: 4 log iU/mL) and an earlier virological response in HBeAg-negative non-cirrhotic patients(cut-off value: 2.4 log iU/mL). Although HBsAg levels decreased slowly during long-term entecavir treatment, higher HBsAg decrease rates were found in the first year for HBeAg-positive non-cirrhotic patients, and patients with higher baseline HBsAg levels. More favorable clinical outcomes were not observed by a rapid HBsAg decline per se, but depended on lower baseline HBsAg *** Baseline HBsAg can be used to predict treatment responses. HBsAg levels and decrease rates should be considered together according to disease status while interpreting HBsAg changes.

AiM: To establish if a distinct urinary metabolic profile could be identified in Bangladeshi hepatitis-B hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients compared to cirrhosis patients and ***: Urine samples from 42 Bangladeshi patients with HCC (39 patients with hepatitis-B HCC), 47 with cirrhosis on a background of hepatitis B, 46 with chronic hepatitis B, and seven ethnically-matched healthy controls were analyzed using nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. A full dietary and medication history was recorded for each subject. The urinary NMR data were analyzed using principal component analysis (PCA) and orthogonal partial least squared discriminant analysis (OPLS-DA) techniques. Differences in relative signal levels of the most discriminatory metabolites identified by PCA and OPLS-DA were compared between subject groups using an independent samples Kruskal-Wallis one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) test with all pairwise multiple comparisons. Within the patient subgroups, the Mann-Whitney U test was used to compare metabolite levels depending on hepatitis B e-antigen (HBeAg) status and treatment with anti-viral therapy. A Benjamini-Hochberg adjustment was applied to acquire the level of significance for multiple testing, with a declared level of statistical significance of P ignificant differences in age (P ight (P index (P inical subgroups. Serum alanine aminotransferase (ALT) was significantly higher in the HCC group compared to controls (P in was generally markedly elevated in HCC compared to controls; and serum creatinine levels were significantly reduced in the HCC group compared to the cirrhosis group (P = 0.004). intoduction: The adenocarcinomas of the appendix are rare tumors of the gastrointestinal truct that often reveal no clear clinical symptoms and are not diagnosed in time. in this study, we analyze a rare case of an incidentally discovered adenocarcinoma of the appendix after appendicectomy. Case presentation: A Greek male patient of 37 years old patient presented to our hospital with signs of acute appendicitis and peritonitis. He underwent appendicectomy as therapeutic treatment. Post operational histological examination revealed in situ carcinoma of the appendix without high hematological tumor markers or visible metastasis in CT scan analysis. We decided to proceed to right hemicolectomy. The patient was discharged without complications and without displaying other symptoms in a monitoring interval of two months after surgery. Conclusion: Adenocarcinomas of the appendix are generally difficult to detect in the early stage leading to significant morbidity and mortality rates. Therefore, it is necessary to execute a very careful histopathological examination and perform a detailed intraperitoneal cleaning during operation, so that any indications of appendix adenocarcinomas in cases of appendectomy won’t be missed or misjudged.

This study explores strategies to develop highly efficient direct carbon fuel cells(DCFCs) by com-bining a solid-oxide fuel cell(SOFC) with a catalyst-aided carbon-gasification process. This system employs Cu/CeO 2 composites as both anodic electrodes and carbon additives in a cell of the type: carbon|Cu-CeO 2/YSZ/Ag|air. The study investigates the impact on in situ carbon-gasification and DCFC performance characteristics of catalyst addition and variation in the carrier gas used(inert He versus reactive CO2). The results indicate that cell performance is significantly improved by infusing the catalyst into the carbon feedstock and by employing CO2 as the carrier gas. At 800 ℃, the maxi-mum power output is enhanced by approximately 40% and 230% for carbon/CO2 and car-bon/catalyst/CO2 systems, respectively, compared with that of the carbon/He configuration. The increase observed when employing the catalyst and CO2 as the carrier gas can be primarily at-tributed to the pronounced effect of the catalyst on carbon-gasification through the re-verse-Boudouard reaction, and the subsequent in situ electro-oxidation of CO at the anode three-phase boundary.

Angiogenesis is the hallmark of malignant gliomas positively correlated with the vascular endothelial growth factor（VEGF） *** previously reported that expression levels of Nodal,a member of transforming growth factor-β family correlate with the malignant invasive behavior of human glioma *** this study,we show that knockdown of Nodal suppresses glioma angiogenesis by inhibition of *** human primary glioma specimens,expression of Nodal positively correlates with WHO glioma tumor grades and expression of VEGF in the corresponding glioma *** human U87MG glioma cells,knockdown of endogenous Nodal by RNA interference（RNAi） significantly decreases colony formation and secretion of *** vivo,cellular depletion of Nodal in U87MG inhibited brain glioma growth and prolonged the survival of mice with U87MG/shNodal gliomas compared with *** of Nodal suppressed tumor vessel growth in U87MG *** Nodal inhibitor（SB431542）,silencing Nodal,or overexpressing Nodal in the U87MG,GBM8401,and GBM glioma cells,our further experiments revealed that Nodal induced VEGF expression might,at least in part,mediate through the ERK1/2-HiF-1α-mediated signaling *** together,our data revealed that alteration of Nodal expression in glioma cells resulted in change VEGF secretion,and subsequent colony formation,in vivo tumor growth,and angiogenesis,all of which are consistent with the regulation of VEGF through the ERK1/2-HiF-1α-mediated signaling,suggesting that Nodal may serve as a potential therapeutic target for the treatment of human gliomas.
