Forest management may have significant effects on forest connectivity and natural population *** old-growth single trees may also change natural patterns of genetic variation and spatial genetic *** study evaluated the impacts of forest management using a silvicultural system of seed trees on the genetic diversity and spatial genetic structure of Eremanthus erythropappus(DC.)MacLeish.A complete survey of 275 trees on four plots was undertaken out to compare the genetic variation of a managed stand with an unmanaged *** genotyped all adult and juvenile individuals 60 months after the management and compared the genetic diversity and the spatial genetic structure *** diversity was considered high because of an efficient gene flow between *** were no genetic differences between stands and no evidence of *** clustering identified a single population(K=1),indicating no genetic differentiation between managed and unmanaged *** and juvenile individuals of the unmanaged stand were more geographically structured than individuals from the managed *** was a tendency of coancestry among juveniles at the first class of distance of the managed stand,suggesting a drift of genetic structure possibly caused by *** early responses to management on genetic diversity and stand structure is a first step to ensuring the effectiveness of conservation practices of tree *** sustainability of forest management of *** on genetic diversity,and more accurately,on spatial genetic structure needs evaluation over time to promote effective conservation of the population size and genetic variability.

Targeting hepatic ceruloplasmin mitigates nonalcoholic steatohepatitis by modulating bile acid metabolism

Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis(NASH)is a condition that progresses from nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)and is characterized by hepatic fat accumulation,inflammation,and *** has the potential to develop into cirrhosis and liver cancer,and currently no effective pharmacological treatment is *** this study,we investigate the therapeutic potential of targeting ceruloplasmin(Cp),a copper-containing protein predominantly secreted by hepatocytes,for treating *** result show that hepatic Cp is remarkedly upregulated in individuals with NASH and the mouse NASH ***-specific Cp ablation effectively attenuates the onset of dietary-induced NASH by decreasing lipid accumulation,curbing inflammation,mitigating fibrosis,and ameliorating liver *** employing transcriptomics and metabolomics approaches,we have discovered that hepatic deletion of Cp brings about remarkable restoration of bile acid(BA)metabolism during *** deletion of Cp effectively remodels BA metabolism by upregulating Cyp7a1 and Cyp8b1,which subsequently leads to enhanced BA synthesis and notable alterations in BA *** conclusion,our studies elucidate the crucial involvement of Cp in NASH,highlighting its significance as a promising therapeutic target for the treatment of this disease.

Ground motion prediction equations based on shallow crustal earthquakes in Georgia and the surrounding Caucasus

Strong ground motions caused by earthquakes with magnitudes ranging from 3.5 to 6.9 and hypocentral distances of up to 300km were recorded by local broadband stations and three-component accelerograms within Georgia’s enhanced digital seismic *** data mixing is particularly effective in areas where strong ground motion data are *** data were used to produce models based on ground-motion prediction equations(GMPEs),one benefit of which is that they take into consideration information from waveforms across a wide range of *** this study,models were developed to predict ground motions for peak ground acceleration and 5%-damped pseudo-absolute-acceleration spectra for periods between 0.01 and 10 ***-period ground motions decayed faster than long-period motions,though decay was still in the order of approximately 1/*** mechanisms and local soil conditions greatly influence *** spectral acceleration(SA)of thrust faults was higher than that for either strike-slip or normal faults but the influence of strike-slip faulting on SA was slightly greater than that for normal *** soils also caused significantly more amplification than rocky sites.

Measurement of circulating levels of VEGF-A,-C,and -D and their receptors,VEGFR-1 and -2 in gastric adenocarcinoma

AIM: To analyze the serum levels and prognostic significance of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) -A,-C,and -D,and their receptors,VEGFR-1 and -2 in gastric adenocarcinomas. METHODS: The serum levels of VEGF family members were measured in 76 control subjects and 76 patients with gastric adenocarcinoma using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). These measurements were correlated with clinco-pathological features and survival rates. RESULTS: The serum levels of VEGF-A and its receptor,VEGFR-1,were signifi cantly higher in patients with gastric cancer than in healthy donors (t = 2.3,P = 0.02 and t = 4.2,P iated with advanced tumor stage and presence of metastasis. VEGFR-1 was associated with metastasis,advanced overall stage,tumor differentiation and survival. VEGFR-2 levels were associated with poor tumor differentiation. There was no significant prognostic value for any of the VEGF family members or their receptors except for VEGFR-1 where high levels were associated with a poor overall survival. CONCLUSION: Serum VEGF levels vary significantly in the same cohort of patients with variable clinico-pathological features and prognostic values. The simultaneous measurement of VEGF receptors levels in sera may overcome the limitations of a single biomarker assay.

Bioactive Steroid from the Root Bark of Psorospermum corymbiferum

AIM:To isolate,characterize and investigate the antifungal activity of the root bark of Psorospermum corymbiferum(Clusiaceae).METHODS:The finely ground root bark of Psorospermum corymbiferum was cold-extracted by percolation with 98% ethanol(5.0 L) for two *** ethanol extract was macerated with n-hexane,chloroform,ethylacetate and methanol successively to give the respective solvent *** of the extract was done using column chromatography on silica gel with cyclohexene:ethylacetate(1:1) as eluents,and the subfractions were purified by TLC using cyclohexane:ethylacetate(7:3).The structures were elucidated based on spectral analysis(IR,1H NMR and 13C NMR) in comparison with the data with those reported in the *** minimum inhibitory concentration(MIC) was determined on Candida alblican and Candida ***:Three known compounds,acetylvismione F,prenylated bianthrone and 1,8-dihydroxyanthraquinone and a steroid were isolated from the *** determined on Candida alblican and *** were 20 and 15 μ***-1,*** steroidal compound(diosgenin) was characterized for the first time from Psorospermum corymbiferum(Clusiaceae).CONCLUSION:The results suggested that the isolation has anticandidal properties,supporting the use of this plant in folk *** current drug of choice for disseminated Candidiasis is amphotericin B with MIC of 0.39 μ***-1,which could be a promising lead for a new antifungal drug especially if subjected to SAR in antifungal drug design.

Evaluation of anti-inflammatory potential of leaf extracts of Skimmia anquetilia

Objective:To evaluate anti-inflammatory potential of leaf extract of Skimmia anquetilia by invitro and in-vivo anti-inflammatory ***:Acute toxicity study was carried out to determine the toxicity level of different extract using acute toxic class method as described in Organization of Economic Co-operation and Development Guidelines ***(1% w/w) was administered and inflammation was induced in rat *** leaf extracts of Skimmia anquetilia were evaluated for anti-inflammatory activity by in-vitro human red blood cell(HRBC) membrane stabilization method and in-vivo carrangeenan-induced rat paw edema method. Results:The in-vitro membrane stabilizing test showed petroleum ether(PE),chloroform(CE), ethyl acetate(EE),methanol(ME) and aqueous extracts(AE) showed 49.44%,59.39%,60.15%,68.40% and 52.18%protection,respectively as compared to control *** in-vivo results of CE,EE and ME showed 58.20%.60.17%and 67.53%inhibition of inflammation after 6h administration of test drugs in albino *** potency of the leaf extracts of Skimmia anquetilia were compared with standard diclofenac(10 mg/kg) which showed 74.18%protection in in-vitro HRBC membrane stabilization test and 71.64%inhibition in in-vivo carrangeenan-induced rat paw edema model. The ME showed a dose dependent significant(Pia anquetilia due to presence of bioactive phytoconstitutes for the first lime and provide the pharmacological evidence in favor of traditional claim of Skimmia anquetilia as an antiinflammatory agent.
