Promotion of angiogenesis in tissue engineering is of vital significance to the survival of transplants,which leads the way of tissue *** this study,we screened six short peptides with potentially angiogenic activities to functionalize self-assembling peptide nanofiber scaffolds RADA16-I(Ac-(RADA)4-CONH2).Fluorescence microscopy images of endothelial cells morphology on peptide scaffolds exhibited good cell attachments and Survivals on these six functionalized peptide scaffolds, especially on peptide scaffolds RAD/KLT and RAD/*** proliferation examination also confirmed the excellent cell growth on these two functionalized peptide *** peptide motifs KLT(KLTWQELYQLKYKGI) and PRG(PRGDSGYRGDS) had positive effects on endothelial cell survival and growth,which implied that these two peptides might have great promise for promoting angiogenesis in vitro and in vivo.

A refined theoretical analysis for using the spiral airflow and axial airflow to purge residual water in an inclined pipe was presented. The computations reveal that, in most cases, the spiral flow can purge the residual water in the inclined pipe indeed while the axial flow may induce back flow of the water, just as predicted in the experiments presented by horii and Zhao et al. In addition, the effects of various initial conditions on water purging were studied in detail for both the spiral and axial flow cases.

Rate of hexabromocyclododecane decomposition and production of brominated polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons during combustion in a pilot-scale incinerator

Here, we examined the incineration of extruded polystyrene containing hexabromocyclododecane（HBCD） in a pilot-scale incinerator under various combustion temperatures（800–950℃） and flue gas residence times（2–8 sec）. Rates of HBCD decomposition ranged from 99.996%（800℃, 2 sec） to 99.9999%（950℃, 8 sec）; the decomposition of HBCD, except during the initial stage of combustion（flue gas residence time 〈 2 sec）, followed a pseudo-first-order kinetics model. An Arrhenius plot revealed that the activation energy and frequency factor of the decomposition of HBCD by combustion were 14.2 kJ/mol and 1.69 sec^（-1）,respectively. During combustion, 11 brominated polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons（BrPAHs）were detected as unintentional by-products. Of the 11 BrPAHs detected, 2-bromoanthracene and 1-bromopyrene were detected at the highest concentrations. The mutagenic and carcinogenic BrPAHs 1,5-dibromoanthracene and 1-bromopyrene were most frequently detected in the flue gases analyzed. The total concentration of BrPAHs exponentially increased（range,87.8–2,040,000 ng/m^3） with increasing flue gas residence time. Results from a qualitative analysis using gas chromatography/high-resolution mass spectrometry suggest that bromofluorene and bromopyrene（or fluoranthene） congeners were also produced during the combustion.

Gemcitabine is a cytidine analogue frequently used in the treatment of various ***,the development of chemoresistance limits its *** resistance is regulated by various factors,including aberrant genetic and epigenetic controls,metabolism of gemcitabine,the microenvironment,epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition,and acquisition of cancer stem cell *** many situations,results using cell lines offer valuable lessons leading to the first steps of important *** this review,we mainly discuss the factors involved in gemcitabine metabolism in association with chemoresistance,including nucleoside transporters,deoxycytidine kinase,cytidine deaminase,and ATP-binding cassette transporters,and outline new perspectives for enhancing the efficacy of gemcitabine to overcome acquired chemoresistance.

BACKGROUND Endoscopic submucosal dissection(ESD)is widely accepted for early gastric cancer(EGC)without lymph node metastasis,although ESD is challenging,even for small lesions,in the greater curvature(GC)of the upper(U)and middle(M)thirds of the *** forceps-assisted endoscopic resection(GF-ER)is a type of endoscopic mucosal resection that is performed via a double-channel *** To investigate the safety and efficacy of GF-ER vs ESD in the GC of the stomach’s U and M *** We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of 506 patients who underwent ER of 522 EGC lesions in the stomach’s U and M regions in three institutions between January 2016 and May *** lesions from eight patients who underwent GF-ER for EGC(the GF-ER group)were compared to 63 lesions from 63 patients who underwent ESD(the ESD group).We also performed a subgroup analysis of small lesions(≤10 mm)in 6 patients(7 lesions)from the GF-ER group and 20 patients(20 lesions)from the ESD *** There were no statistically significant differences between the GF-ER and ESD groups in the en bloc resection rates(100%vs 100%)and the R0 resection rates(100%vs 98.4%).The median procedure time in the GF-ER group was shorter than that in the ESD group(4.0 min vs 55.0 min,P<0.01).There were no adverse events in the GF-ER group,although five perforations(8.0%)and 1 case of postoperative bleeding(1.6%)were observed in the ESD *** we only considered lesions that were≤10 mm,the median procedure time in the GF-ER group was still shorter than that in the ESD group(4.0 min vs 35.0 min,P<0.01).There were no adverse events in the GF-ER group,although 1 case of perforation(1.6%)were observed in the ESD *** These findings suggest that GF-ER may be an effective therapeutic option for small lesions in the GC of the stomach’s U and M regions.

AIM: To evaluate the significance of BNIP3 in the pathogenesis of pancreatic cancer, we analyzed the relationship between the expression of BNIP3 and survival rate of the patients with pancreatic cancer, or chemosensitivities in pancreatic cancer cell lines, particularly for gemcitabine, the first-line anti-tumor drug for pancreatic cancer. METHODS: To compare the expression level of BNIP3 with the resistance to gemcitabine, eight pancreatic cancer cell lines were subjected to gemcitabine treatment and the quantitative real-time RT-PCR method was used to evaluate BNIP3 expression. Immunohistochemical analysis was also performed using 22 pancreatic cancer specimens to study relationship between BNIP3 expression and survival rate. RESULTS: Although no significantly positive association between BNIP3 mRNA level and gemcitabine chemosensitivity was observed, pancreatic cancer cell lines that were sensitive to gemcitabine treatment tended to show high levels of BNIP3 expression. The converse, an absence of BNIP3 expression, was not correlated with gemcitabine resistance. We further compared the BNIP3 expression profiles of resected primary pancreaticcancer specimens with the prognosis of the patients, and found a tendency of favorable prognosis and low BNIP3 expression. CONCLUSION: High levels of BNIP3 expression cannot be used as one of the predicting factors for gemcitabine chemosensitivity, and some yet to be known factors will have to fill the gap for the accurate prediction of pancreatic cancer chemosensitivity to gemcitabine. However, BNIP3 expression may have an impact on prediction of prognosis of patients with pancreatic cancer.

Effect of Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi and Their Partner Bacteria on the Growth of Sesame Plants and the Concentration of Sesamin in the Seeds

Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) can stimulate the plant growth. Pseudomonas sp. (KCIGC01) NBRC109613 isolated from the spores of Glomus clarum IK97, an AMF, is reported to support the plant growth and development as partner bacteria (PB) for AMF REF _Ref399417929 \r \h \* MERGEFORMAT [1]. In order to investigate the effect of G. clarum IK97 and Pseudomonas sp. (KCIGC01) NBRC109613 on the secondary metabolites, these microorganisms were inoculated to sesame plants. The inoculation of these microorganisms stimulated the growth of sesame. The rate of sesame root colonization in G. clarum IK97 + Pseudomonas sp. (KCIGC01) NBRC109613 inoculated plants (66.4% ± 4.4%) was higher than that in G. clarum IK97 alone inoculated plants (39.2% ± 5.8%). Furthermore, the content of sesamin in sesame seeds was increased by the inoculation of these microorganisms. In particular, the content of sesamin in the treatment inoculated with G. clarum IK97 and Pseudomonas sp. (KCIGC01) NBRC-109613 was 11.4 ± 1.5 mg/g seed. The results suggest that AMF and their partner bacteria can stimulate the growth and development of sesame plants and increase the content of sesamin in the seeds.
