Even when damaged by injury or disease bone tissue has the remarkable ability to *** this process is limited by large size bone defects,tissue engineering is responsible for restoring,maintaining or improving tissue *** are support structures,designed to be implanted in the damaged site,supporting mechanical loads and protecting the regenerating bone *** this paper,3D-printed PLA scaffolds with three different porosity values and two different geometries were experimentally and numerically ***-cT analysis showed that fused filament fabrication can be used to produce scaffolds with the desired porosity and 100%of interconnected *** monotonical compression,scaffolds apparent compressive modulus increased from 89 to 918 mPa,while yield stress increased from 2.9 to 27.5 mPa as porosity decreased from 70 to 30%.Open porosity decreased up to 8%on aligned scaffolds and 14%on staggered scaffolds,after compression,while scaffold’s surface-to-volume ratio highest reduction(7.48 to 4.55 mm−1)was obtained with aligned low porosity ***-cT volume reconstruction allowed for scaffold simplified numerical models to be built and *** agreement was found when predicting scaffold’s apparent compressive ***,it can be concluded that 3D printing is a viable scaffold manufacturing technique for trabecular bone replacement.

Experimental study on the microstructural and anti-corrosion behaviour of co-deposition Ni-co-SiO_2 composite coating on mild steel

mild steel is commonly used in the construction of Pipeline. The major problem of this Pipeline is corrosion. Effort is make my researchers to combat this problem. In this work co-deposition of Ni-coSiO_2 composite coating on mild steel was reported with the view to reduce this problem. The SiO_2 was varies from 5 to 25 wt% in the deposition. The microstructure, hardness values and potentiodynamic polarization in simulated sea water were determined. The results show that XRD pattern of the Ni co deposited mild steel revealed the presence hard phases of NiO, co_5Ni, co_2Ni_3, Ni co5 while that of Ni-coSiO_2 deposited mild steel revealed the presence harder phases of NiOSiO_2, coNi_7Si_2, co_5Ni_2Si_3. The Nico-25 SiO_2 deposited sample has smaller particle size than Ni-10 co coating. coating thickness of 110.7 mm was obtained for Ni-10 co coating, while coating thickness of 135.7, 157.7, 165.0 mm were obtained at Ni-10 co-x SiO_2(x=10, 15, 25 wt%). 99.90% corrosion resistance was achieved at Ni-co-25 SiO_2. This improvement in corrosion resistance after composites coating could be attributed to the hard and fine structure obtained after coating.

As a European union(Eu)member,Portugal must comply with reductions in plastic *** Portugal,the 330 items/100 m of beach litter,comprising up to 3.9 million pieces and of which 88%is plastic,is higher than the Eu median(149 items/100 m)and must be reduced to 20 items/100 m(94%).Integrative measures are needed to reduce littering and improve plastics’use and disposal under the circular *** this 414 kt of plastic packaging waste,163 kt were declared plastic packaging,140 kt subjected to recycling,and 94 kt to energy *** current recycling rate of plastic packaging(34%)should be improved to reach Eu recycling averages(42%)and goals and to provide widespread benefits,considering revenues of 167€/*** a net importer of waste,Portugal could benefit from the valorization of imported *** increased recycling,pyrolysis and gasification could provide short-term alternatives for producing value-added substances from plastic waste,such as hydrogen,consistent with the National Plan of Hydrogen and improving ongoing regulations on single-use *** manuscript provides an integrative view of plastics in Portugal,from use to disposal,providing specific recommendations under the circular economy.

Short-term effect of physical activity on sleep health:A population-based study using accelerometry

Background:Regular physical activity(PA) is an important behavior in improving sleep ***,the short-term effects of PA on sleep are still *** study aimed to verify the effect of different intensities of PA practiced in different periods of the day on the subsequent sleep night in a population-based cohort of young ***::Prospective analyses were conducted for PA performed during the day and its effect on the following sleep night using data from the22-year follow-up of the 1993 Pelotas Birth cohort in Brazil(mean age of participants-22.6 years).Wrist-worn accelerometry was usedto measure both PA and sleep *** intensity,we analyzed the sleep effect of light PA(LPA),moderate PA,and vigorous PA,stratified by *** variables were sleep time window(STW;the difference between sleep onset and sleep end),total sleep time(TST;the sum of minutes classified as sleep in STW),and sleep percent(SP;SP=(TST/STW);expressed in percentage).We performed generalized estimating equations using Stata ***::The means of STW,TST,and SP were 443.6 min/day,371.1 min/day,and 84%,*** spent in moderate PA and vigorous PA in the morning and afternoon was not associated with sleep *** men,10 min/day of morning LPA increased TST by2.56 min/*** women,10 min/day of morning LPA increased SP by 0.15 percentage *** LPA also increased SP by 0.09 percentage points for *** PA seems to have an inverse effect on sleep variables for any intensity and both ***::The effect of PA on sleep health is intrinsically related to the period of the day in which it is *** effect magnitude is different between *** better sleep health,it is preferable that PA be performed during the day.

On the Simulation of Industrial Gas Dynamic Applications with the Disconti- nuous Galerkin Spectral Element method

In the present investigation, we demonstrate the capabilities of the discontinuous Galerkin spectral element method for high order accuracy computation of gas dynamics. The internal flow field of a natural gas injector for bivalent combustion engines is investigated under its operating conditions. The simulations of the flow field and the aeroacoustic noise emissions were in a good agreement with the cxperirnental data. We tested several shockcapturing techniques for the discontinuous Galerkin scheme. Based on the validated framework, we analyzed the development of the supersonic jets during different opening procedures of a compressed natural gas injector. The results suggest that a more gradual injector opening decreases the noise emission.

Physics-based,data-driven approach for predicting natural ventilation of residential high-rise buildings

Natural ventilation is particularly important for residential high-rise buildings as it maintains indoor human comfort without incurring the energy demands that air-conditioning *** improve a building’s natural ventilation,it is essential to develop models to understand the relationship between wind flow characteristics and the building's *** more effort is still needed for developing such reliable,accurate,and computationally economical models instead of currently the most popular physics-based models such as computational fluid dynamics(cFD)*** paper,therefore,presents a novel model developed based on physics-based modelling and a data-driven approach to evaluate natural ventilation in residential high-rise *** model first uses cFD to simulate wind pressures on the exterior surfaces of a high-rise *** the surface pressures have been obtained,multizone modelling is used to predict the air change per hour(AcH)for different flats in various ***-driven prediction models are then developed using data from the simulation and deep neural networks that are based on mean absolute error,mean absolute percentage error,and a fusion algorithm *** data-driven models are used to predict the AcH of 25 *** results from multizone modelling and data-driven modelling are *** results imply a high accuracy of the data-driven prediction in comparison with physics-based *** fusion algorithm-based neural network performs best,achieving 96%accuracy,which is the highest of all models *** study contributes a more efficient and robust method for predicting wind-induced natural *** findings describe the relationship between building design(e.g.,plan layout),distribution of surface pressure,and the resulting AcH,which serve to improve the practical design of sustainable buildings.

Study of K^(*)(892)^(0)andФ(1020)meson production in proton–proton and Pb–Pb collisions at√S_(NN)=2.76 TeV

In this paper,we describe a study of charged particle yield as a function of pT for K^(*)(892)0 and phgr(1020)mesons in proton–proton(pp)and Pb–Pb collisions at√S_(NN)=2.76 TeV in the central rapidity region of|y|c^(−1)in pp collisions and in a pT range of 0c−1 in Pb-Pb *** also investigated a very important ratio,the nuclear modification factor,to study the effects of the medium in the most central region,i.e.0%–5%*** data simulation,we used the EPOS-LHc and EPOS-1.99 *** check the validity of these models'simulations,we compared the data obtained from these monte carlo simulation programs with ALIcE experimental data for√S_(NN)=2.76 *** was concluded that the models'predictions for the phgr-meson in pp and for the most central Pb-Pb collisions disagreed with the ALIcE data,and that the difference increased with *** may be connected with the essential role of collective parton behaviors which could not have been taken into account by the *** K^(*)0 mesons,both programs gave almost the same predictions,and with pT in the interval pT>3 GeV c^(−1),the predictions were very close to the experimental *** models gave higher predictions for the soft pT interval and lower predictions for the hard *** values of the RAA distributions were lower than unity and both models were very close to the ALIcE *** is very interesting that the models were not able to describe the pT distributions,but they gave good predictions for their *** may possibly be due to parton collective *** observed some additional suppression of K^(*)0 at low values of pT with respect to phgr-mesons,which may be related to the role of the masses of the particles in soft *** rising trend for R_(AA)in the region from pT=10 GeV c^(−1)to 20 GeV c^(−1) observed by the ALIcE experiment was absent for theФ-mesons.

Influence of surface liquid segregation on corrosion behavior of semi-solid metal high pressure die cast aluminium alloys

The corrosion behavior(in chloride medium) of the surface layer of SSm-HPDc plates of alloys 7075-T6 and 2024-T6 was compared with that of the wrought alloys 7075-T6 and *** testing was performed in deaerated 3.5%Nacl *** separate tests,the open-circuit potential was monitored in aerated 3.5% Nacl for 30 min after *** electrochemical tests show that there is no significant difference in the pitting potential of the wrought alloys and that of the cu-enriched surfaces of the SSm-HPDc alloys.

The Alto moxotóTerrane of the Borborema Province presents a wide exposure of Paleoproterozoic crust,but unlike other continental blocks of South America,its orogenic history is strongly obliterated by late Neoproterozoic *** isotopic and geochemical studies were conducted in mafic-ultramafic(Fazenda carmo Suite)and granitic-gneissic rocks(Riacho do Navio Suite)within the *** former present zircon u-Pb crystallization ages at ca.2.13 Ga,whereas Sm-Nd data suggests a juvenile origin via melting of early Paleoproterozoic to Archean peridotitic *** data for these rocks are compatible with tholeiitic magmas with some degree of crustal contamination and trace element distribution points to a continental-arc related setting interpreted as remnants of the early stages of *** contrast,the Riacho do Navio Suite was emplaced at ca.2.08 Ga and has highly negativeεNd(t)values indicating crustal *** suite displays calc-alkali to alkali-calcic and ferroan geochemical signatures compatible with cordilleran *** addition,trace-element distribution as well as discriminant diagrams suggest that the precursor magmas were generated during the later stages of a continental arc or in a syn-collisional *** on our results,we suggest that the studied units might represent missing pieces of a Paleoproterozoic accretionary orogen that formed the crustal framework of the Alto moxotóTerrane,and that this represents a block associated with assembly of the Nuna/columbia supercontinent,which is now largely hidden within the Neoproterozoic orogenic belts of West Gondwana.

Gastroesophageal cancers are leading causes of cancer *** attempts at adopting molecularly based treatment approaches have been slow and ineffective even though we begin to identify specific targetable gene mutations and *** is dear that we should no longer treat all gastroesophageal cancers as a homogeneous disease,which is what we do when we use nonspecific ***,we currently cannot monitor successful gene/pathway targeting,nor understand how/when tumors develop resistance,nor predict which patients will derive maximal *** improve outcomes,we must precisely detail the heterogeneity of these tumors to then individualize cancer therapy as well as develop novel avenues to study and predict treatment effects in individual *** this end,patient-derived organoids,in which tumor cells from individual patients are grown in a Petri dish,are a new versatile system that allows for timely expandability,detailed molecular characterization,and genetic manipulation with the promise of enabling predictive assessment of treatment *** this review,we will explore the development and basic techniques for organoid generation,and discuss the current and potential future applications of this exciting technology to study the basic science of carcinogenesis and to predict/guide cancer patient care in the clinics.
