The prepa.a.ion of highly controlled thin films of lithium ion conducting orga.ic ma.eria.s is becoming a.cha.lenging but rewa.ding goa. in view of obta.ning high-performa.ce technologica. devices like solid-sta.e polymer ba.teries a.d ca.a.itors. The cla.sica. polymer electrolyte consists of orga.ic ma.romolecules (usua.ly polyether polymer) tha. a.e doped with inorga.ic (typica.ly lithium) sa.ts. Poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) is the most commonly employed polymer in PEs beca.se of the peculia. a.ra. in the (-CH2-CH2-O-)n cha.n providing the a.ility to solva.e low-la.tice-energy lithium sa.ts. For three deca.es the ma.or resea.ch a.tention wa. focused on a.orphous polymer electrolytes in the belief tha. ionic conductivity occurs in a.ma.ner somewha. a.a.ogous to ga. diffusion through polymer membra.es. Segmenta. motion of the polymer cha.ns continuously crea.es free volume, into which the ions migra.e, a.d this process a.lows ions to progress a.ross the electrolyte. Such a.view wa. esta.lished by a.number of experiments, a.d denied the possibility of ionic conductivity in crysta.line polymer pha.es. This concept ha. been recently overturned by our group, demonstra.ing tha. conductivity comes a.out a. a.result of perma.ent conducting pa.hwa.s for the movement of ions.

The incidence of meta.a.sa. fra.tures is not precisely known. Ma.position might ca.se future meta.a.sa.gia. mid-foot pa.n a.d discomfort, which ma. dicta.e a. on-going need for in-shoe orthosis, shoe modifica.ion a.d, occa.iona.ly, opera.ive correction. To minimize a.d prevent these problems, we describe a.simple technique for reduction a.d fixa.ion of meta.a.sa. fra.tures by Kirschner wires. We ha.e found this technique to be a.simple a.d efficient wa. of reducing a.d fixing meta.a.sa. fra.tures. It is a.plied ea.ily by the closed a.d open technique.

Ra.TES gene polymorphisms lea. to a.tered gene expression a.d influence the na.ura. course of HIV infection. Therefore,these muta.ions ma. a.so a.fect the course of HIV/HCV ***: We determined a.lele frequencies of Ra.TES-403 (G→a., Ra.TES-28 (C→G) a.d Ra.TESIN1.1 (T→C) polymorphisms using rea.-time PCR a.d hybridiza.ion probes in pa.ients with HIV (n = 85), HCV (n= 112), HIV/HCV coinfection (n = 121), a.d 109 hea.thy controls. Furthermore, HIV a.d HCV loa.s a. well a. CD4+ a.d CD8+ cell counts were compa.ed between different Ra.TES ***: Frequencies of Ra.TES-403 a. Ra.TES-28 G a.d Ra.TES-IN1.1 C a.leles were higher in HIV infected pa.ients tha. in hea.thy controls (-403: 28.2% vs 15.1%,P = 0.002; -28: 5.4% vs 2.8%, not significa.t; IN1.1:19.0% vs 11.0%, P = 0.038). In HIV/HCV coinfected pa.ients, these Ra.TES a.leles were less frequent tha. in pa.ients with HIV infection a.one (15.4% P = 0.002;1.7%; P = 0.048; 12.0%; not significa.t). Frequencies of these a.leles were not significa.tly different between HIV/HCV positive pa.ients, HCV positive pa.ients a.d hea.thy ***: a.l three Ra.TES polymorphisms showed increa.ed frequencies of the va.ia.t a.lele exclusively in pa.ients with HIV monoinfection. The finding tha. the frequencies of these a.leles rema.ned una.tered in HIV/HCV coinfected pa.ients suggests tha. HCV coinfection interferes with selection processes a.socia.ed with these a.leles in HIV infection.

a.a.emic dishonesty is a.disturbing issue in higher educa.ion tha. ha. been worsening over the yea.s, especia.ly with the a.pea.a.ce of the internet a.d the e-lea.ning educa.ion. This new technology exposes students to the opportunity of using online ba.k exa.s a.d term pa.ers a.d increa.es their tendency to chea.. This study investiga.es student a.a.emic dishonesty in the context of tra.itiona. a.d dista.ce-lea.ning courses in higher educa.ion. Da.a.from 1,365 students enrolled in a.a.emic institutes in the U.S.a.a.d Isra.l were surveyed to a.sess their persona.ity a.d their willingness to commit va.ious a.ts of a.a.emic misconduct. The findings indica.e tha. in both countries dishonest beha.iors a.e grea.er in fa.e-to-fa.e courses tha. in online courses. In a.dition, both a.erica. a.d Isra.li students identified with the persona.ity tra.t of a.reea.leness showed a.nega.ive correla.ion with a.a.emic dishonesty. Furthermore, Isra.li students identified with the persona.ity tra.ts of Conscientiousness a.d Emotiona. Sta.ility demonstra.ed a.nega.ive correla.ion with a.a.emic dishonesty. In contra.t, the persona.ity tra.t of Extra.ersion a.ong a.erica. students wa. found in a.positive correla.ion with a.a.emic misconduct. Implica.ions for further resea.ch a.e discussed.
