Extending OpenStack Monasca for Predictive Elasticity Control

Traditional auto-scaling approaches are conceived as reactive automations,typically triggered when predefined thresholds are breached by resource consumption *** such rules at scale is cumbersome,especially when resources require non-negligible time to be *** paper introduces an architecture for predictive cloud operations,which enables orchestrators to apply time-series forecasting techniques to estimate the evolution of relevant metrics and take decisions based on the predicted state of the *** this way,they can anticipate load peaks and trigger appropriate scaling actions in advance,such that new resources are available when *** proposed architecture is implemented in OpenStack,extending the monitoring capabilities of Monasca by injecting short-term forecasts of standard *** use our architecture to implement predictive scaling policies leveraging on linear regression,autoregressive integrated moving average,feed-forward,and recurrent neural networks(RNN).Then,we evaluate their performance on a synthetic workload,comparing them to those of a traditional *** assess the ability of the different models to generalize to unseen patterns,we also evaluate them on traces from a real content delivery network(CDN)*** particular,the RNN model exhibites the best overall performance in terms of prediction error,observed client-side response latency,and forecasting *** implementation of our architecture is open-source.

Numerical investigation on broadband mid-infrared supercontinuum generation in chalcogenide suspended-core fibers

As2S3 and As2Se3 chalcogenide 3-bridges suspended-core fibers（SCFs） are designed with shifted zero-dispersion wavelengths（ZDWs） at around 1.5 μm, 2 μm, and 2.8 μm, respectively. A generalized nonlinear Schrodinger equation is used to numerically compare supercontinuum（SC） generation in these SCFs pumped at an anomalous dispersion region nearby their ZDWs. Evolutions of the long-wavelength edge（LWE）, the power proportion in the long-wavelength region（PPL）, and spectral flatness（SF） are calculated and analyzed. Meanwhile, the optimal pump parameters and fiber length are given with LWE, PPL, and SF taken into account. For As2S3 SCFs, SC from a 14 mm-long fiber with a ZDW of 2825 nm pumped at 2870 nm can achieve the longest LWE of - 13 μm and PPL up to ～72%. For As2Se3 SCFs, the LWE of 15.5 μm and the highest PPL of ～ 87% can be achieved in a 10 mm-long fiber with ZDW of 1982 nm pumped at 2000 nm. Although the As2Se3 SCFs can achieve much longer LWE than the As2S3 SCFs, the core diameter of As2Se3 SCFs will be much smaller to obtain a similar ZDW, leading to lower damage threshold and output power. Finally, the optimal parameters for generating SC spanning over different mid-IR windows are given.

Grain free diets for utility dogs during training work: Evaluation of the nutrient digestibility and faecal characteristics

Two different diets characterized by the absence of cereals or by the presence of conventional cereals were evaluated on the nutrient digestibility and faecal characteristics and faecal fermentative endproduct concentrations of 8 neutered adult Labrador retrievers housed at the Regional Centre Helen Keller(Messina,Italy)during the training work for the service guide for the ***(age = 17 ± 1 months,initial body weight [BW]= 26.3 ± 1 *** body condition score [BCS]= 4.5 ± 0.11)were divided into 2 homogeneous groups for sex(half males and half females).Dogs in the grain free(GF)group were fed a commercial diet characterized by the absence of grain cereals,and dogs in the control(CTR)group were fed a super-premium pet food characterized by conventional grains as the carbohydrate *** trial lasted 84 *** by a 7-d of adaption *** examination,*** faecal characteristics were *** statistical model included the effects of diet(GF ***),time(from d 0 to *** of the trial)and the interaction(diet x time).The high-protein,lowcarbohydrate dry diet(GF)offered higher apparent nutrient digestibility of protein(+10%;P =0.002)and fat(+7%;P<0.001)and more stable large intestinal fermentation of carbohydrate compared to the commercial high-carbohydrate dry diet,enabling dogs to use nutrients from the diet more efficiently and thus requiring less food(-13%)to satisfy their nutrient requirements,producing less excrement(-33%;P= 0.033).and reaching a higher final BW(+8%;P<0.0001)and a higher final BCS(+15%;P= 0.003).Therefore,the GF diet appears the nutritional plan most suitable for these animals taking due account not only of the training work done by animals with their increased nutrient and energy needs,but also of the gastrointestinal disorders consequent to stress coming from work and life in kennels,which cause in the Labrador retrievers an unusual weight loss.

AIM To present the current state-of-the art of molecular imaging in the management of patients affected by inflammatory bowel disease(IBD).METHODS A systematic review of the literature was performed in order to find important original articles on the role of molecular imaging in the management of patients affected by IBD. The search was updated until February 2016 and limited to articles in *** Fifty-five original articles were included in this review, highlighting the role of single photon emission tomography and positron emission tomography. CONCLUSION To date, molecular imaging represents a useful tool to detect active disease in IBD. However, the available data need to be validated in prospective multicenter studies on larger patient samples.
