Difference in calcium ion precipitation between free and immobilized Halovibrio mesolongii HMY2

Biomineralization has become a research focus in wastewater treatment due to its much lower costs compared to traditional methods.However,the low sodium chloride(NaCl)-tolerance of bacteria limits applications to only water with low NaCl concentrations.Here,calcium ions in hypersaline wastewater(10%NaCl)were precipitated by free and immobilized Halovibrio mesolongii HMY2 bacteria and the differences between them were determined.The results show that calcium ions can be transformed into several types of calcium carbonate with a range of morphologies,abundant organic functional groups(C-H,C-O-C,C=O,etc),protein secondary structures(β-sheet,α-helix,3_(10)helix,andβ-turn),P=O and S-H indicated by P2p and S2p,and more negativeδ^(13)C_(PDB)(‰)values(-16.8‰to-18.4‰).The optimal conditions for the immobilized bacteria were determined by doing experiments with six factors and five levels and using response surface method.Under the action of two groups of immobilized bacteria prepared under the optimal conditions,by the 10^(th)day,Ca^(2+)ion precipitation ratios had increased to 79%-89%and 80%-88%with changes in magnesium ion cencentrations.Magnesium ions can significantly inhibit the calcium ion precipitation,and this inhibitory effect can be decreased under the action of immobilized bacteria.Minerals induced by immobilized bacteria always aggregated together,had higher contents of Mg,P,and S,lower stable carbon isotope values and less well-developed protein secondary structures.This study demonstrates an economic and eco-friendly method for recycling calcium ions in hypersaline wastewater,providing an easy step in the process of desalination.

Geochronology and geochemistry of Permo-Triassic sandstones in eastern Jilin Province(NE China): Implications for final closure of the Paleo-Asian Ocean

In the eastern part of the Central Asian Orogenic Belt(CAOB) in northeastern(NE) China, scattered outcrops of molasse deposits mark the ending of an orogeny and are crucial for understanding the evolution of the Paleo-Asian Ocean(PAO). However, the timing of tectonic events and the relationships among these strata remain controversial. To better constrain these geologic events, a comprehensive study of the detrital zircon U-Pb geochronology and geochemistry of the sandstones of the Kaishantun(KST) Formation and Kedao(KD) Group in eastern Jilin Province, NE China, was conducted. The KST Formation is traditionally considered a molasse deposit. The sandstones display low CIA, PIA and high ICV values and low Th/U and Rb/Sr ratios, which suggest that the rocks were derived from an immature intermediate-felsic igneous source and experienced a simple sedimentary recycling history with relatively weak chemical weathering. LA-ICP-MS U-Pb dating of detrital zircons from two samples of the KST Formation yields ages of 748-252 Ma, suggesting that the KST Formation was deposited between 254.5 Ma and 252 Ma in Late Permian. The zircons were mainly derived from the continental northern part of the North China Craton(NCC). In contrast, the U-Pb dating of detrital zircons from five samples of the KD Group yields ages of 2611-230 Ma, suggesting that the KD samples were deposited in the Early to Middle Triassic(ca. 248-233 Ma). The detrital zircon ages for the KD samples can be divided into groups with peaks at 2.5 Ga, 1.8 Ga, 800-1000 Ma, 500 Ma and 440-360 Ma, which suggest that the samples were derived from bidirectional provenances in the Jiamusi-Khanka Block and the NCC. These new data,combined with previously published results, suggest that at least three orogenic events occurred in central-eastern Jilin Province during the Early Permian(270-262 Ma), Early Triassic(254-248 Ma) and Middle-Late Triassic(242-227 Ma). 通过对吉林省石头口门地区早二叠世砂岩进行野外地质考察、薄片镜下观察和碎屑锆石U-Pb年代学研究,探讨其形成时代、物源及构造环境。长石岩屑杂砂岩的碎屑颗粒具有分选和磨圆度差以及成分复杂的特征,表明为近源快速堆积的产物。获得114颗碎屑锆石U-Pb年龄介于480~276 Ma,可划分出晚石炭世—早二叠世(322~276 Ma)和早石炭世(349~323 Ma) 2个主要年龄组,另有4个早古生代和中泥盆世年龄。通过区域岩浆事件对比,推测石头口门地区早二叠世砂岩的物源主要来自华北板块北缘晚石炭世—早二叠世活动陆缘型岩浆岩,少量来自研究区附近的早石炭世岩浆岩、早古生代岩浆弧、晚志留世—中泥盆世弧-陆碰撞岩浆岩以及华北板块前寒武纪变质基底。综合碎屑锆石年龄频谱、沉积以及构造背景资料分析,认为石头口门早二叠世砂岩应是活动大陆边缘环境下海底扇沉积序列的组成部分,并在古亚洲洋闭合过程中作为基质与一系列成分、规模和时代复杂的构造岩块或岩片共同构成了蛇绿混杂岩。

Characteristics and genesis of microbial lumps in the Maozhuang Stage(Cambrian Series 2),Shandong Province,China

Microbial lumps have been found in the Maozhuang Stage(Cambrian Series 2) in the Liangcheng section,Shandong Province,China.Their macro-and micro-scale features distinguish them from other carbonate particles such as intraclasts and oncoids.Most lumps have a coarse sand to pebble size.They were mostly rounded during sedimentation or combined to form irregular shapes.A distinct boundary is present between the lumps and the surrounding cement of sparry calcite.The lumps contain either no core at all or several irregular "cores",without a distinct inner texture.They are composed mainly of calcified(micritized) microbes,most likely cyanobacteria.The microbes drilled holes in carbonate grains,after which lumps formed by micritization,cementation,and agglutination by an extracellular polymeric substance(EPS) in a high-energy shallow-marine,subtidal environment.As the lumps are directly related to microbes,they should be considered as microbialites.

Diagenesis and porosity evolution of sandstone reservoirs in the East II part of Sulige gas field, Ordos Basin

It is becoming an important controlling factor of gas exploration and exploitation in the east part of Sulige gas field in the Ordos Basin where the reservoir of main gas formations is tight sandstones. Employing experimental methods of slice identification, casting slice, scan electron microscope, and X-ray diffractions, we studied the characteristics of petrology and diagenesis on reservoirs in Shan1 section of Shanxi formation and He8 section of Shihezi formation of the Permian system in the East II part of Sulige gas field. The results include: (1) the main sandstones in these areas are dominated by lithic sandstone and lithic silicarenite with low grade of maturity; (2) the diagenesis of sandstone in these areas mainly include compaction, cementation, corrosion and alteration. Conclusions are as follows: (1) the diagenetic stage reached period B of the middle diagenetic stage; (2) the early diagenetic compaction is one of the main factors to decreasing porosity; (3) the secondary pores formed by corrosion in acidity medium conditions in period A of the middle diagenetic stage can distinctly ameliorate the poor reservoir capability of sandstone and; (4) cementation in period B of the middle diagenetic stage is the most important factor leading to poor physical property of sandstone reservoirs.

Geochemical characteristics of aromatic hydrocarbons in crude oils from the Linnan Subsag, Shandong Province, China

Abundant aromatic fractions were detected in oils from the Linnan subsag, including aphthalenes, phenanthrenes, triaromatic steroids, biphenyl, fluorenes, dibenzothiophenes, dibenzofuranes, as well as some typical higher plant-sourced compounds, such as pyrene, benzopyrene, fluoranthene, chryaene, benzofluoranthrene, perylene and cadalene. Occurrences of biomarkers indicate that oils from the Linnan subsag are typical terrestrially genetic oils. Developed in the depositional environment is a strong reduction condition typical of brackish-saline lake. Thermal evolution has entered into the mature-high mature stage.

Early diagenetic deformation structures of the Furongian ribbon rocks in Shandong Province of China——A new perspective of the genesis of limestone conglomerates

Ribbon rocks are characterized by an alternation of millimeter-to centimeter-thick limestone and argillaceous deposits (marlstone or shale).The sedimentary processes and diagenetic characteristics of ribbon rocks might be critical to the formation of limestone conglomerates.According to detailed field measurement and laboratory analyses (thin section observation and XRD analysis),four types of ribbon rocks are classified,i.e.,limestone and marlstone couplet (L-M),limestone and shale couplet (L-S),thin-bedded lime mudstone (Ltb),and laminated limestone and marlstone couplet (Cl).These ribbon rocks were mostly deposited in low-energy subtidal environments (below fair-weather wave base).Ribbon rocks exhibit various subtle deformation structures such as intrastratal cracks and "boudin" structures.Differential cementation of carbonate and argillaceous layers during early diagenesis is a prerequisite condition for the deformation of ribbon rock under compaction.Ribbon rocks would be deformed into limestone conglomerates under differential compaction that might be triggered by external forces such as storm and earthquake.

Controlling of cements and physical property of sandstone by fault as observed in well Xia503 of Huimin sag,Linnan sub-depression

Cement content of carbonate in tight sandstone near section is much higher than that of the normal sandstones far away from the fault of well Xia503,in the Huimin sag in Linnan sub-depression.In order to understand the origin and its impact on fault sealing,analyses of the whole-rock minerals,casting thin sections,cathodoluminescence,isotope and physical properties are conducted on cores from well Xia503.It is found that 13C varies from 0.1‰to 0.6‰with the average value of 0.42‰,18O varies from 13.5‰to 12.3‰with the average of 13.1‰,and C–O isotope plotting points are distributed in the low to moderate temperature area of the hydrothermal dolomite.According to the occupied relationship,cathodoluminescence,and C–O isotope feature,the carbonate cementation could be divided into four stages:calcites,dolomite,ankerite,and ferrocalcite.It is discovered that the carbonate cementation is negatively related to reservoir physical property,with the porosity of 4.8%,permeability of 0.37 mD,and displacement pressure of 1.97 MPa in the tight sandstone,which have increased by almost one order of magnitude compared to the porosity of 14.3%,permeability of 3.73 mD,and displacement pressure of 0.27 MPa in the normal sandstone,which is far away from the fault.Regardless of the lithology of the counterpart wall of the fault,only the displacement pressure difference caused by carbonate cementation between the tight sandstone and the normal sandstone could seal 41 m high oil column.

ADAM8 has been identified as the fibronectin-cleaving enzyme in human degenerative intervertebral disc(IVD)tissues.^(1)Increase of the active form of ADAM8 and its cleavage product,fibronectin fragment,correlated with an increased degree of IVD degeneration.1 Furthermore,fibronectin fragments have been shown to accelerate the progression of IVD degeneration.^(2)These findings suggest that ADAM8 may play a role in degenerative disc disease,a clinical problem with tremendous socioeconomic burdens in the United States.

Geochemistry and origin of deep-seated cracked gas on the northern slope of the Dongying Sag, Shandong Province

Deep-seated cracked gas exploration was achieved great breakthrough in Es4L of the Minfeng area on the northern slope of the Dongying Sag. Carbon isotopic and molecular compositions studies revealed the characteristics of wet gas and a normal trend of carbon isotopic composition. Empirical cutoff points of δ13C2 and δ13C3 and light hydrocarbon compositions distinguished the cracking gas as sapropelic gas. Variations in i/nC5, i/nC4 and δ13C2 fur-ther confirmed that the gas was cracked from residual kerogen. Source characteristics indicated that the gas was de-rived from mature-highly mature source rocks of Es4 with kerogen type II being dominant mixed with some oil-cracking gas. Burial history modeling indicated that there were two hydrocarbon charging periods in Es4L reser-voirs. The first period refers to the Guantao-Minghuazhen stage dominated by oil charging, while the second period refers to the Minghuazhen stage and has been dominated by cracked gas charging till now.
