Coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)is a devastating worldwide pandemic infection caused by a severe acute respiratory syndrome namely coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)that is associated with a high spreading and mortality *** the date this review was written,SARS-CoV-2 infected about 96 million people and killed about 2 million *** arguments disclosed the high mortality of COVID-19 due to acute respiratory distress syndrome or change in the amount of angiotensin-converting enzyme 2(ACe2)receptor expression or cytokine storm strength *** a similar pattern,hepatic impairment patients co-infected with SARS-CoV-2 exhibited overexpression of ACe2 receptors and cytokine storm overwhelming,which worsens the hepatic impairment and increases the mortality *** this review,the impact of SARS-CoV-2 on hepatic impairment conditions we ***,we focused on the recent studies that indicated cytokine storm as well as ACe2 as the main factors for high COVID-19 spreading and mortality while hinting at the potential therapeutic strategies.

Background: Confusion often arises in caring for diabetic foot infections and ulcers, especially with antimicrobials;we aim to shed light on this entity and alert healthcare workers to its stewardship. methods: Records were reviewed between February 2016 and September 2023. Data for patients diagnosed with diabetes and foot ulcers, infected or not, were examined following ICD 9 search terms. Records for patients were included if they were prediabetic/diabetic adults with foot ulcers, more than 18 years old, and on antidiabetic treatment. Patients were excluded if they insulin resistant, with normal HgbA1c levels, wheel-chair dependent, bed-bound, non-diabetic patients, diabetic patients who had vascular lower limb surgery earlier to ulcers, diabetic patients who had aortocoronary bypass, deep venous thrombosis within six months, malignancy, and severe clinical depression. A modified IWGDF/IDSA guidelines definitions for DFI and DFU was considered. Statistical analysis was done using R programming. Statistical methods were employed as appropriate, and a significant P-value was considered for P Results: most characteristics were well balanced between DFI and DFU, on imaging osteomyelitis and tissue swelling were significantly more in DFI. endovascular radiological procedures showed angiograms to be considerably more in DFI, while angioplasty was more in DFU, in addition to smoking. Bacteremia was uncommon, and swab cultures were mostly polymicrobial in both ulcers;no clear association with blood bacteria was detected with the polymicrobial growth, though few were concordant. Antimicrobials prescribed for both ulcers were not statistically different except for carbapenems, which were more in DFI (P Conclusion: Attention should be paid to best practices while caring for diabetic ulcers. These include swab culture interpretations, the use of antimicrobials, and plan management according to DFI or DFU to utilize either local care or combination with antimicrobials.

Artemisinin as a Chinese medicine,Selectively Induces Apoptosis in Pancreatic Tumor Cell Line

Objective： To investigate the possible mechanism through which Artemisinin induced apoptosis in pancreatic cell line. methods： Column chromatography, thin layer chromatography （TLC） and proton NmR spectroscopy were used to purify Artemisinin. The flowcytometry was employed to detect apoptosis and reactive oxygen species （ROS）. Results： The results indicated that 50% inhibiting concentration （ICso value） for pancreatic cell line （RIN） was 45 μmol/L of Artemisinin. Artemisinin had no cytotoxic effect on the growth of peripheral blood lymphocytes. The mechanism of apoptosis was evaluated by measuring intraceliular ROS. It was shown that Artemisinin-induced apoptosis occurred independently of the binding of CD95L to CD95 receptor in the RIN cells. moreover, Artemisinin, in a dose-dependent manner, could significantly increase the level of ROS. Conclusion： Artemisinin can induce apoptosis in the RIN cells via the generation of ROS and triggering the intrinsic pathway of cell death.

Gas/water foams stabilized with a newly developed anionic surfactant for gas mobility control applications

Carbon dioxide(CO2) flooding is one of the most globally used eOR processes to enhance oil ***,the low gas viscosity and density result in gas channeling and gravity override which lead to poor sweep *** application for mobility control is a promising technology to increase the gas viscosity,lower the mobility and improve the sweep efficiency in the *** is generated in the reservoir by co-injection of surfactant solutions and *** there are many surfactants that can be used for such purpose,their performance with supercritical CO2(ScCO2) is weak causing poor or loss of mobility *** experimental study evaluates a newly developed surfactant(CNF) that was introduced for ScCO2 mobility control in comparison with a common foaming agent,anionic alpha olefin sulfonate(AOS) *** work was divided into three stages:foam static tests,interfacial tension measurements,and foam dynamic *** surfactants were investigated at different *** general,results show that both surfactants are good foaming agents to reduce the mobility of ScCO2 with better performance of CNF *** tests in the presence of crude oil show that the foam life for CNF extends to more than 24 h but less than that for ***,CNF features lower critical micelle concentration(CmC),higher adsorption,and smaller area/molecule at the liquid-air ***,entering,spreading,and bridging coefficients indicate that CNF surfactant produces very stable foam with light crude oil in both deionized and saline water,whereas AOS was stable only in deionized *** all conditions for mobility reduction evaluation,CNF exhibits stronger flow resistance,higher foam viscosity,and higher mobility reduction factor than that of AOS *** addition,CNF and ScCO2 simultaneous injection produced 8.83% higher oil recovery than that of the baseline experiment and 7.87% higher than that of *** drop profiles

Performance evaluation of LPG desulfurization by adsorption for hydrogen production

The adsorption of sulfur compounds,in commercially available LPG,has been studied using different adsorbents,namely Zeolite,Zn O and house made date pits activated carbon（DP-AC）. It was found that the three adsorbents are capable of effectively removing sulfur compounds at different feed sulfur concentrations. The effects of height to diameter aspect ratio of the adsorption column,flow rate of LPG and input sulfur concentrations have been studied. A first order kinetics model has been used to describe the adsorption,and the kinetics constant was found to increase by increasing the flow rate of LPG and decrease by increasing the amount of adsorbent used. The developed model described the system fairly well,and can be used in designing and scaling-up of fixed-bed adsorption columns.

Tsunami Impacts on Nuclear Power Plants along Western Coast of India Due to a Great makran earthquake: A Numerical Simulation Approach

The major seismicity source in the northern Arabian Sea is the makran Subduction Zone (mSZ) that defines the tectonic boundary between the Arabian plate and the eurasian plate, located offshore Iran and Pakistan over which an instrumentally registered earthquake (mw 8.1) generated a tsunami on 27 November, 1945. It has caused severe cataclysm to a vulnerable population along the surrounding coastlines, including India. It has been on a long seismic quiescence since this last event. The population and industrialization have exponentially increased along the coastal areas in last half decade. The highly exposed coastal locations to the tsunamis are the areas where the nuclear power plants are located. In the present work, a numerical simulation of a great tsunamigenic earthquake (m 9) is presented that predicts the generation, propagation, run-up and travel time using TUNAmI N2 for estimating tsunami impacts along the nuclear power plants of the western coast of India. TUNAmI N2 code was designed for shallow water wave equations, which uses the finite-difference method based on staggered-leap frog scheme. Thus, it has potential to simulate a far-field tsunami with much more accuracy than other methods. It is observed that the tsunami will strike along the coast of Jaitapur Nuclear Power Plant (maharashtra), Tarapur Nuclear Power Plant (maharashtra), Kaiga Nuclear Power Plant (Karnataka) and mithi-Virdi Nuclear Power Plant (Gujarat) after 210, 215, 225 and 230 minutes, respectively. Results show that the tsunami run-up is highest for Jaitapur coast (2.32 m). The mithi-Virdi coast is the least effected (0.93 m) while Kaiga (2.15 m) and Tarapur coast (2.12 m) might have faced quite intense tsunami consequences. The arrival times and run-ups of the tsunami along the coast of different power plants have been calculated since these parameters are of vital importance in mitigation of the coastal hazard, evacuation planning and installation of early warning system in order to
