Human saliva is an indispensable fluid that maintains a healthy oral cavity which otherwise can lead to oral diseases(dental caries and periodontitis).In addition,salivary metabolites and microbiome profile provide early detection of systemic diseases such as cancer and *** diagnostic has gained popularity due to its non-invasive sampling ***(abstinence from food or drink or both)research for weight loss and improve health is common,but studies using fasting saliva are *** metabolites in fasting saliva have been reported with interesting results,which can be enhanced by considering different confounding *** example,fasting saliva contains higher salivary nitrite,which is related to nitric oxide(NO).NO is a vasodilator supporting the healthy function of endothelial cells and its deficiency is connected to many *** timely supply of NO through exogenous and endogenous means is highlighted and the potential advantage of fasting salivary composition changes in relation to COVID-19 infection is *** review aims to provide a general discussion on the salivary composition,properties,and functions of the whole saliva,including the health benefits of fasting.

Unusual Presentation of Heart Failure Secondary to Ruptured Aneurysmal Sinus of Valsalva: A Case Report

Sinus of Valsalva Aneurysm (SOVA) arises from an abnormal dilation of the aortic root, leading to enlargement between the aortic annulus and the sinotubular junction. Although often presenting without symptoms, these aneurysms bear the potential for life-threatening complications, primarily from the looming risk of rupture. We present the case of a 42-year-old Malay gentleman with a history of bilateral pedal edema and dyspnea on exertion who was diagnosed with a ruptured sinus of Valsalva aneurysm. The patient underwent successful surgical repair of the aneurysm, leading to symptomatic improvement and favorable outcomes. This case highlights the importance of early diagnosis and prompt surgical intervention in managing this uncommon condition.

Infections caused by Strongyloides stercoralis(***) in human are generally asymptomatic,however in immunocompromised individual,hyperinfection may develop with dissemination of larvae to extra-intestinal *** diagnosis could be easily missed due to asymptomatic presentation and insufficient exposure towards the infection itself,which may lead to low index of suspicion as a *** this report,a case of a Malaysian male with underlying diabetes mellitus,hypertension,cerebrovascular accident,bullous pemphigus and syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion who initially complained of generalized body weakness and poor appetite without any history suggestive of sepsis is ***,he developed septicemic shock later,and *** larvae was incidentally found in the tracheal aspirate that was sent to look for acid fast *** of aggressive resuscitation,the patient succumbed due to pulmonary hemorrhage and acute respiratory distress *** was revealed that the current case has alarmed us via incidental finding of *** larvae in the tracheal aspirate,indicating that the importance of the disease should be emphasized in certain parts of the world and population respectively.

Molecular Analysis of the Resistance of Mycobacterium tuberculosis to Ethionamide Using PCR-SSCP Methods and the Implementation of Its Nuclear Technique

With a population of more than 231 million, Indonesia carries the fifth highest TB （tuberculosis） burden globally. Therefore, many efforts to support TB control program are being undertaken. One of them is strengthening the capabilities in molecular analysis of the resistance of TB bacteria to the drugs such as ETH （ethionamide）. ETH is prodrug that needs to be activated by mycobacterial enzymes in order to exert their antimicrobial activity. The aim of this study was to understand the molecular basis for Mycobacterium tuberculosis resistance to ETH. DNA （Deoxyribonucleic acid） extraction of M. tuberculosis was amplified with PCR （polymerase chain reaction） on ethA gene and analyzed their drug resistance by using SSCP （single strand conformation polymorphism） technique. The DNA of M. tuberculosis （H37Rv） strain was used as positive control. Of 53 extracts of DNA amplified, 11 （20.75%） were positive for the target gene and none of samples was resistent to ETH based on the alteration of DNA band mobility shift on acrylamide gel. This low number of positive PCR amplicons may be related to annealing temperature and initial DNA content in specimen. Study on the implementation of hot-SSCP by labeling the DNA with 32p radioisotope shows that this nuclear based technique has the higher quality in term of the visualization.

Effect of Curcuma longa *** on the AP1 expression in rat cochlear fibroblasts under noise conditions

Noise-induced cellular stress can cause damage to fibroblasts within the cochlear supporting tissues and lateral wall. In the present study, we aimed to evaluate the role of curcumin as the safe and effective therapeutic agent in the prevention and treatment of this condition according to the expression of activator protein-1(AP1). A total of 24 Rattus norvegicus were randomly divided into four groups(n = 6). Group 1: control; group 2: noise(+); group 3: noise(+), 50 mg/day curcumin(+); group 4: noise(+), 100 mg/day curcumin(+). All groups(except for group 1) were subjected to a sound pressure level(SPL) of 100 d B for 2 h/day during 2 weeks. Curcumin used in this study was derived from Curcuma longa L.(Turmeric), and it was orally administered for 2 weeks. All samples were immunohistochemistrically examined for the expression of AP1 in cochlear fibroblasts. The results showed that there were significant differences for the AP1 expression(P<0.05) among all groups, except for between groups 1 and 3, or between groups 1 and 4. Our data proved that curcumin was potentially effective in the prevention and treatment of damage of fibroblasts within the cochlear supporting tissues and lateral wall due to the decreased AP1 expression following noise exposure.

Feeding studies of radiation sterilization ready to eat foods on sprague dawley rats: <i>In vivo</i>

Development of gamma irradiated high moisture traditional dishes derived from locally traditional récipe aimed for specific target groups as ready to eat foods for ensuring the safety, quality, and security purposes have been conducted. The formation of free radicals in the traditional foods induced by ionizing radiation is a part of toxicological studies on irradiated traditional foods was to provide local scientific data base on safe- ty *** different foods such as steamed gold fish, spicy curry beef and soy sauces beef were individually vacuum packed in a laminate pouch of PET 12 μm/LDPE 2 μm/AL-Foil 7 μm/LDPE 2 μm/LLDPE 50 μm (PET/Al-Foil/ LLDPE), then kept at frozen state. The frozen samples were maintained in cryogenic condition along the irradiation process by placing the samples in styrofoam boxes filled with dry ice then irradiated with gamma rays at the dose of 45 kGy. The irradiated samples were kept and stored at normal temperature prior to test. Both irradiated conventional rat’s feed at normal temperature with the dose of 4 kGy and unirradiated one as control were also made. Irradiated and unirradiated samples were sent to animal laboratory, and fed into individual female Sprague Dawley rat as member of a group. The parameters observed were body weight changed of rats, toxicological test to observe the effect free radicals formation in rat’s blood by using malon-dialdehyde (MDA) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) methods, respectively, and anatomy pathology diagnosis. Different types of the foods sterilized by ionizing radiation fed ad libitum to the individual Sprague Dawley rat demonstrated that such foods did not give any adverse effect on the reduction of body weight, the toxicological impact, nor anatomy-pathology examinations of the rats.

Comparative Study of Inulin Extracts from Dahlia, Yam, and Gembili Tubers as Prebiotic

The addition of prebiotic in food today is mostly done. It is based on the ability of prebiotic to support the growth of probiotic. Inulin is a carbohydrate that serves as an effective prebiotic that cannot be digested by digestive enzymes. The purpose of this research is to assess utilization of inulin from several types of tubers include dahlia tubers, yam tu- bers, and gembili tubers as a source of prebiotic that tested in probiotic bacteria (L. casei and L. plantarum). The study used a Randomized Block Design method with two factors, the type of probiotic isolate and inulin extract from tubers. The result shows that the best treatment is isolates of L. casei obtained in the fermentation medium with the addition of inulin from gembili tubers. The best treatment has the following characteristics: an increase in total LAB 2.71 × 1010 cfu/ml, 1.50% total acid, pH 2.05 and the total sugars are 3.11%. Whereas in isolates of L. plantarum, the best treatment in the fermentation medium is with the addition of inulin from dahlia tubers. The LAB reaches 2.80 × 1010 cfu/ml, 1.29% total acid, pH 2.24 and 2.05% total sugars.

Internal Whistle-Blowing Intentions： A Study of Demographic and Individual Factors

Internal auditors hold a unique position in their organizations to prevent, deter, and detect corporate wrongdoings. However, the role of this profession in investigating their ethical decision-making behaviors towards internal whistle-blowing intentions has been very often neglected. Furthermore, although extensive researches have been undertaken on the issue of whistle blowing globally, empirical studies on this area are still scarce in Malaysia. This paper examines internal whistle-blowing intentions among internal auditors in Malaysia by utilizing three independent vignettes. A mail survey was conducted to investigate demographic and individual factors that could influence internal auditors＇ ethical decision-making processes. The likelihood for internal whistle-blowing intentions was significant among internal auditors＇ ethical judgments for all the three vignettes. Demographic factors （gender, age, and tenure） and other individual factors （locus of control and organizational commitment） failed to explain the likelihood of internal auditors＇ internal whistle-blowing intentions. Findings should aid researchers in their understandings of the determinants of individuals＇ internal whistle-blowing behaviors.

Effect of Salacca Vinegar Var. Suwaru on Lipid Profile Diabetic Rats

Diabetes mellitus is a group of metabolic diseases with hyperglycemia characteristic that occurs because of abnormalities of insulin secretion. And it becomes one of the major degenerative diseases in the world. The number of studies is conducted to produce hypoglycemic compound and hipolipidemia as an alternative to chemical drugs. One of natural product is salacca vinegar. The purpose of this research is to determine the effect of Salacca vinegar var. Suwaru impact on the diabetic lipid profile of male rats that induced by STZ (Streptozotocin). This reseacrh is conducted by Experimental Post Test Randomized Control Design. Under this research, involves 4 groups, spesifically normal group, diabetic group, diabetic + salacca vinegar 0.4 cc, diabetic + salacca vinegar 0.7 cc. The data were analyzed by ANOVA (Analysis of Variance). The means were assessed for differences through Least Significant Difference (LSD) 0.05. The results showed that Salacca vinegar var. Suwaru with a dose of 0.4 cc/rat/day and 0.7 cc/rat/day influence on lipid profile levels of diabetic rats which affect on decreasing LDL, Trygliceride, total cholesterol and increasing HDL serum plasma diabetic rats.
