Efficient logistics enabled by smart solutions in tunneling

While logistics comprises an important part of tunneling costs,it is generally not considered a lever of performance but rather a con-straint to a project’s *** study presents some insights on how smart technology can impact the tunneling *** impact is even greater because of the complexity of the tunneling supply chain,and smart technology could help support this ***,we discuss how the nature of the tunneling industry invites stakeholders to develop a common understanding of the project prior to con-struction to successfully deploy smart technology during the use or maintenance phase.

Considering functional dimensioning in architectural design

This paper presents an overview of the functional dimensioning （FD） concept apptied to the construction sector. FD addresses the issue of toterance; construction involves severat trades working together white each trade has its own construction toterances. To investigate this probtem, three case studies are investigated. The first one describes a classic case of a window in a bay and the way constructors sotved the resulting toterance problems. The second case study describes the notion of chain dimension. The fast case study presents the notion of wedge as a sotution to sotve probtems related to toterance gap accumulation. This paper is of interest to the scientific community that is working to industrialize the construction sector and atso to architects （in the design）, construction managers （onsfte）, and manufacturers （construction trades）.

Characterization of Tunisian marine sediments in Rades and Gabes harbors

The objective of this article is to study the geotechnical and environmental characteristics of sediments dredged from two Tunisian harbors:Rades and *** first harbor represents the main facility place in the national transport *** second one is selected as its sediments present a serious ecological constraint caused by the discharge of wastes into the marine *** sediments are either discarded at sea or landfilled despite their harmful effects on the *** article is divided into three main *** first one presents the material that was carried for Rades and Gabes *** conservation conditions and the used experimental tests are *** characterization includes the determination of the grain size distribution,the water content,the Atterberg limits,the methylene blue value,the specific area,the bulk density,the specific unit weight,the organic and carbonate *** characterization is assessed by the determination of metals concentrations in a leaching *** second section deals with the description and analysis of geotechnical properties of Rades and Gabes harbors’ *** results obtained show that Rades harbor sediments are slightly sandy clayey silts whereas Gabes harbor sediments are silty sands characterized by a highly plastic clay *** of the two sediments don’t exhibit a high organic ***,chemical,mineralogical and environmental properties are presented and then *** experimental results obtained show that Rades and Gabes sediments could be used as a sand substitute in the formulation of a new construction *** harbor sediments are more polluted than Rades harbor sediments.

Morphogenetic responses of Populus alba L. under salt stress

The morphogenetic responses to salt stress of TunisianPopu-lus alba clones were studied in order to promote their plantation in dam-aged saline areas. One year-old plants of threeP. alba clones （MA-104, MA-195 and OG） were subjected to progressive salt stress by irrigation during two consecutive years. The plants were grown in a nursery, inside plastic receptacles containing sandy soil and were irrigated with tap water （control） or 3-6 g/l NaCl solution. During this study, leaf epinasty, elongation rate, vigor, internode length, plant architecture, and number of buds were evaluated. Test clone response was highly dependent on the applied treatment and degree of *** most pronounced alterations were induced under 6g/l of NaCl treatment including leaf epinasty, leaf elongation rate delay, vigor decrease, internode length shortening, and morphogenetic modifications. These responses were less noticeable in the MA-104 clone with respect to the two other clones. The salt effect induced a delay in the leaf elongation rate on the MA-195 and OG clones leading to an early leaf maturity. The vigour and internode length of the MA-104 clone was less affected than the other clones. The OG clone was the most salt-sensitive thus, it developed shorter branches and more buds number than MA-195 and MA-104. The effect of long-term salt stress was to induce early flowering of theP. alba clones which suggests that mechanism of salt accommodation could be developed.

Introducing a multi-criteria indicator to better evaluate impacts of rare earth materials production and consumption in life cycle assessment

Life cycle assessment （LCA） is based on the basic principles of sustainable development. LCA method demonstrated its efficiency in providing a systematic environmental assessment approach of a product or a process. The effectiveness and efficiency of these methods lies in the fact that they take into account all life cycle stages of a product, from the extraction of raw materials to end of life treatment （recycling, ...） through an assessment covering different impact categories such as climate change, human health, ecosystems and resources. Existing LCA indicators reflect different issues surrounding resource depletion, creating inconsistency and moreover confusion among LCA practitioners. The evaluation of different life cycle impacts assessment （LCIA） methods done by EC JRC showed that available models did not address the same parameters： short- vs long-term, stock vs backup technology, etc. It also showed that if the correlation between the methods was sufficient for some resources, others such as rare earth elements showed a high level of inconsistency between methods. It was therefore necessary to develop a relevant indicator and harmonized assessment of impacts on resources in LCA. Furthermore, a resource strategy indicator based on the three pillars of sustainable development （eco- nomic, environmental and social） would better address wider challenges and making it a more powerful decision making tool. This study aimed to introduce an indicator for evaluating the strategy implications of metal resources for products and to compare different ways of production resulting from extraction of raw materials or recycling, with a special focus on rare earth materials. The indicator would assess the impacts based on a reserve-resource vision [BGS NERC] and the evolution over time and founded over three pa- rameters： technical feasibility, economic viability and political stability （including social and environmental aspects） in representing countries.

Modeling and Numerical Simulations with Compressible Damaged Hyperelastic Law: Application to the Laminated Rubber Bearing

Hyperelastic model with damage induced compressibility is implemented in the ABAQUS software using the subrou- tine Umat. A thermodynamic model is proposed taking into account the nonlinearity of the material behavior. Within the present work, the behavior of laminated rubber bearing structure is studied for two geometrical sets of materials (A-type and equivalent material) under complex monotonic loading conditions. A new geometric edge of laminated rubber bearing is proposed in order to reduce the development costs of the structure. The proposed model allowed finding a good homogenized damage distribution for the same overall stiffness.
