Preliminary exploration of animal models of congenital choledochal cysts

BACKGROUND Various animal models have been used to explore the pathogenesis of choledochal cysts(CCs),but with little convincing *** surgical techniques can achieve satisfactory outcomes for treatment of ***,recent studies have focused more on clinical issues rather than basic ***,we need appropriate animal models to further basic *** To establish an appropriate animal model that may contribute to the investigation of the pathogenesis of *** Eighty-four specific pathogen-free female Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly allocated to a surgical group,sham surgical group,or control group.A rat model of CC was established by partial ligation of the bile *** reliability of the model was confirmed by measurements of serum biochemical indices,morpho-logy of common bile ducts of the rats as well as molecular biology experiments in rat and human *** Dilation classified as mild(diameter,≥1 mm to<3 mm),moderate(≥3 mm to<10 mm),and severe(≥10 mm)was observed in 17,17,and 2 rats in the surgical group,respectively,while no dilation was observed in the control and sham surgical *** levels of alanine aminotransferase,aspartate aminotrans-ferase,total bilirubin,direct bilirubin,and total bile acids were significantly elevated in the surgical group as compared to the control group 7 d after surgery,while direct bilirubin,total bilirubin,and gamma-glutamyltransferase were further increased 14 d after *** of the biochemical indices gradually decreased to normal ranges 28 d after *** protein expression trend of signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 in rat model was consistent with the human CC *** The model of partial ligation of the bile duct of juvenile rats could morphologically simulate the cystic or fusiform CC,which may contribute to investigating the pathogenesis of CC.

Survey on Acceleration Techniques for Complete Neural Network Verification

Artificial intelligence (AI) has been widely applied to various aspects of lives. However, as the primary technique of realizing AI, neural networks can exhibit undefined behavior when faced with inputs outside of their training data or under adversarial attacks. In safety-critical fields such as autonomous driving and intelligent healthcare, undefined behavior can pose significant threats to human safety. Therefore, it is particularly crucial to employ complete verification methods to verify the properties of neural networks and ensure the correctness of the behavior. To enhance the verification efficiency, various complete neural network verification tools have proposed their optimization methods. However, the true influence of these methods has not been thoroughly explored, making it challenging for researchers to identify the most effective optimization directions. This paper introduces the common techniques in neural network verification and presents a universal framework for complete neural network verification. Within this framework, it focuses on discussing the optimization methods employed by state-of-the-art tools for constraint solving, branch selection, and boundary computation. Meanwhile, a series of experiments are designed to investigate the contributions of various acceleration techniques to the performance of each tool and to explore the most effective acceleration strategies and more promising optimization directions. Finally, valuable references can be provided for researchers in this field. © 2024 Chinese Academy of Sciences. All rights reserved.

A Bio-inspired Mutual-hook Strategy for the Soft Finger to Improve Load-bearing Capacity and Grasping Stability

Soft grippers have great potential applications in daily life,since they can compliantly grasp soft and delicate ***,the highly elastic fingers of most soft grippers are prone to separate from each other while grasping objects due to their low stiffness,thus reducing the grasping stability and load-bearing *** tackle this problem,inspired from the venus flytrap plant,this work proposes a mutual-hook mechanism to restrain the separation and improve the grasping performance of soft *** novel soft gripper design consists of three modules,a soft finger-cot,two Soft Hook Actuators(SHAs)and two sliding ***,the soft finger-cot covers on the soft finger,increasing the contact area with the target object,two SHAs are fixed to the left and right sides of the finger-cot,and the sliding mechanisms are designed to make SHAs stretch *** demonstrate that the proposed design can restrain the separation of soft fingers substantially,and the soft fingers with the finger-cots can grasp objects three times heavier than the soft fingers without the proposed *** proposed design can provide invaluable insights for soft fingers to restrain the separation while grasping,thus improving the grasping stability and the load-bearing capacity.

Background Severe acute hepatitis of unknown etiology in children has recently exhibited a global trend of concentrated *** review aimed to summarize the current available information regarding the outbreak of severe acute hepatitis and introduce our hospital’s previous experiences with the diagnosis and treatment of severe acute hepatitis for *** sources Websites including the UK Health Security Agency,European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control,CDC,WHO,and databases including PubMed/Medline,Cochrane Library,Embase and Web of Science were searched for articles on severe acute hepatitis in *** As of May 26,2022,a total of 650 cases have been reported in 33 countries;at least 38(6%)children required liver transplantation,and nine(1%)*** are predominantly aged between 3 and 5 years old,and there are no epidemiological links among *** common manifestations are jaundice,vomiting and pale *** tested positive in most cases,and SARS-CoV-2 and other viruses were detected in a few cases,but virus particles were not found in liver *** immunohistochemistry showed immunoreactivity in the intrasinusoidal lumen from some liver *** hierarchical treatment includes symptomatic and supportive therapy,management of coagulation disorders and hepatic encephalopathy,artifcial liver support,and liver transplantation(approximately 6%–10%of cases require liver transplant).Conclusions The etiology of this severe acute hepatitis in children is not *** clinical features are severe acute hepatitis with signifcantly elevated liver *** need to be alert to children with hepatitis.

Adaptive learning-based optimal tracking control system design and analysis of a disturbed nonlinear hypersonic vehicle model

We propose an adaptive learning-based optimal control scheme for height-velocity control models considering model uncertainties and external disturbances of hypersonic winged-cone *** longitudinal nonlinear model is first established and transformed into the control-oriented error equations,and the control scheme is organized by a steady-compensation *** overcome and eliminate the impact of model uncertainties and external disturbances,an adaptive radial basis function neural network(RBFNN)is designed by a q-gradient *** the height-velocity error system with estimated uncertainties into account,the adaptive learning-based optimal tracking control(ALOTC)scheme is proposed by combining the critic-only adaptive dynamic programming(ADP)framework and parameter optimization of system settling ***,a novel weight update law is proposed to satisfy the online iteration requirements,and the algorithm convergence and closedloop stability are discussed by the Lyapunov ***,four simulation cases are provided to prove the effectiveness,accuracy,and robustness of the proposed scheme for the hypersonic longitudinal control system.

A Dual Discriminator Method for Generalized Zero-Shot Learning

Zero-shot learning enables the recognition of new class samples by migrating models learned from semanticfeatures and existing sample features to things that have never been seen before. The problems of consistencyof different types of features and domain shift problems are two of the critical issues in zero-shot learning. Toaddress both of these issues, this paper proposes a new modeling structure. The traditional approach mappedsemantic features and visual features into the same feature space;based on this, a dual discriminator approachis used in the proposed model. This dual discriminator approach can further enhance the consistency betweensemantic and visual features. At the same time, this approach can also align unseen class semantic features andtraining set samples, providing a portion of information about the unseen classes. In addition, a new feature fusionmethod is proposed in the model. This method is equivalent to adding perturbation to the seen class features,which can reduce the degree to which the classification results in the model are biased towards the seen *** the same time, this feature fusion method can provide part of the information of the unseen classes, improvingits classification accuracy in generalized zero-shot learning and reducing domain bias. The proposed method isvalidated and compared with othermethods on four datasets, and fromthe experimental results, it can be seen thatthe method proposed in this paper achieves promising results.

In this paper,we propose using the tailored finite point method(TFPM)to solve the resulting parabolic or elliptic equations when minimizing the Huber regularization based image super-resolution model using the augmented Lagrangian method(ALM).The Hu-ber regularization based image super-resolution model can ameliorate the staircase for restored *** employs the method of weighted residuals with collocation tech-nique,which helps get more accurate approximate solutions to the equations and reserve more details in restored *** compare the new schemes with the Marquina-Osher model,the image super-resolution convolutional neural network(SRCNN)and the classical interpolation methods:bilinear interpolation,nearest-neighbor interpolation and bicubic *** experiments are presented to demonstrate that with the new schemes the quality of the super-resolution images has been *** these,the existence of the minimizer of the Huber regularization based image super-resolution model and the convergence of the proposed algorithm are also established in this paper.

Joint Sample Position Based Noise Filtering and Mean Shift Clustering for Imbalanced Classification Learning

The problem of imbalanced data classification learning has received much *** classification algorithms are susceptible to data skew to favor majority samples and ignore minority *** weighted minority oversampling technique(MWMOTE)is an effective approach to solve this problem,however,it may suffer from the shortcomings of inadequate noise filtering and synthesizing the same samples as the original minority *** this end,we propose an improved MWMOTE method named joint sample position based noise filtering and mean shift clustering(SPMSC)to solve these ***,in order to effectively eliminate the effect of noisy samples,SPMsC uses a new noise filtering mechanism to determine whether a minority sample is noisy or not based on its position and distribution relative to the majority *** that MWMOTE may generate duplicate samples,we then employ the mean shift algorithm to cluster minority samples to reduce synthetic replicate ***,data cleaning is performed on the processed data to further eliminate class *** on extensive benchmark datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of SPMsC compared with other sampling methods.

Development and validation of a new prognostic model for patients with acute-on-chronic liver failure in intensive care unit

BACKGROUND Cirrhotic patients with acute-on-chronic liver failure(ACLF)in the intensive care unit(ICU)have a poor but variable *** prognosis evaluation can guide the rational management of patients with ***,existing prognostic scores for ACLF in the ICU environment lack sufficient *** To develop a new prognostic model for patients with ACLF in *** Data from 938 ACLF patients in the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care(MIMIC)database were used to develop a new prognostic model(MIMIC ACLF)for ***,calibration and clinical utility of MIMIC ACLF were assessed by area under receiver operating characteristic curve(AUROC),calibration curve and decision curve analysis(DCA),*** ACLF was then externally validated in a multiple-center cohort,the Electronic Intensive Care Collaborative Research Database and a single-center cohort from the Second Hospital of Hebei Medical University in *** The MIMIC ACLF score was determined using nine variables:ln(age)×2.2+ln(white blood cell count)×0.22-ln(mean arterial pressure)×2.7+respiratory failure×0.6+renal failure×0.51+cerebral failure×0.31+ln(total bilirubin)×0.44+ln(internationalized normal ratio)×0.59+ln(serum potassium)×*** MIMIC cohort,the AUROC(0.81/0.79)for MIMIC ACLF for 28/90-day ACLF mortality were significantly greater than those of Chronic Liver Failure Consortium ACLF(0.76/0.74),Model for End-stage Liver Disease(MELD;0.73/0.71)and MELD-Na(0.72/0.70)(all P<0.001).The consistency between actual and predicted 28/90-day survival rates of patients according to MIMIC ACLF score was excellent and superior to that of existing *** net benefit of MIMIC ACLF was greater than that achieved using existing scores within the 50%threshold *** superior predictive accuracy and clinical utility of MIMIC ACLF were validated in the external *** We developed and validated a new prognostic model with satisfactory accuracy
