Fuel efficient model predictive control strategies for a group of connected vehicles incorporating vertical vibration

This paper presents a decentralized fuel efficient model predictive control(MPC) strategy for a group of connected vehicles incorporating vertical vibration. To capture the vehicle vibration dynamics, the dynamics of the suspension system is integrated with the longitudinal dynamics of the vehicle. Furthermore, a MPC framework with finite time horizon is formulated to calculate the optimal velocity profile that compromises fuel economy, mobility and ride comfort for every individual vehicle with the safety and physical constraints considered. In the MPC framework, the target velocity is calculated using signal phase and timing(SPAT)information to reduce the number of stoppage at red lights, and the vertical acceleration is calculated parallel to the calculation of the fuel consumption. The MPC optimal problem is solved with fast-MPC approach which enhances the computational efficiency via exploiting the structure of the control system and approximate methods. Simulation studies are conducted over different SPATs and connectivity penetration rates and the results validate the advantages of the proposed control architecture.

An engine-map-based predictive fuel-efficient control strategy for a group of connected vehicles is presented. A decentralizedmodel predictive control framework is formulated to predict the optimal velocity profile that compromises fuel economy andmobility while guaranteeing the safety of each vehicle. In the model predictive control framework, an engine-map-based fuelconsumption model is established by implementing a backward conventional vehicle model in the cost function. Moreover,the cost function is normalized by dividing each term by its reference value. An extra cost is added to the safety term when thedistance between adjacent vehicles drops to a critical value to guarantee vehicle safety, while another extra cost is consideredfor the velocity tracking term to prevent the violation of traffic rules. The results of simulation show the effectiveness of theproposed control method.

1. Introduction The porous electrodes are the crucial components of the modern electrochemical devices including lithium-ion batteries. The detailed configuration of the lithium-insertion, carbon black, and PVDF binder particles in a typical electrode of a lithium-ion cell has a significant impact on its energy and power density. A thinner electrode is desired to decrease the battery volume particularly for portable electronics and mobility applications.

Application of herbal rectal suppositories beyond intestinal disorders in Persian medicine

Background: Herbal rectal suppositories (RSs) were prescribed not only as a drug delivery system but also as a storing method in Persian medicine. According to the record of ancient references, RSs were clinically administered for diarrhea, constipation, colitis, ascites, dysentery and intestinal parasites, sciatic, lower back pain and joint aches, fever, kidney disease and as an aphrodisiac. Objectives: The aim of this study is to categorize and review different types of RSs, their main herbal components and to find evidence to elucidate their clinical administration. Results: In this study, 7 manuscripts were studied to extract and categorize 11 types of herbal rectal suppositorie (RS) formulations, their ingredients and therapeutic indications. Furthermore, the Persian and scientific names of 43 herbs and their temperaments were mentioned in this study. Hence, ancient therapeutic indications of herbs used in RS formulations as well as their proven effects have been studied, which makes it possible to compare ancient and proven indications of medicinal plants used as ingredients of RSs. Conclusions: In modern medicine, RSs are mostly used for anorectic disorders. However in traditional Persian medicine, they were commonly used not only for anorectic and intestinal diseases, but also as an aphrodisiac, an agent for healing joint, sciatic pain and lumbago, an anti-fever, and an anti-ascites. Other implications of this study could be producing new insights of utilizing herbal RSs in diseases and disorders beyond anorectic and intestinal disorders.
