The shear stress distribution in circular channels was modeled in this study using gene expression programming(GEP). 173 sets of reliable data were collected under four flow conditions for use in the training and testing stages. The effect of input variables on GEP modeling was studied and 15 different GEP models with individual, binary, ternary, and quaternary input combinations were investigated. The sensitivity analysis results demonstrate that dimensionless parameter y/P, where y is the transverse coordinate, and P is the wetted perimeter, is the most influential parameter with regard to the shear stress distribution in circular channels. GEP model 10, with the parameter y/P and Reynolds number(Re) as inputs, outperformed the other GEP models, with a coefficient of determination of 0.7814 for the testing data set. An equation was derived from the best GEP model and its results were compared with an artificial neural network(ANN) model and an equation based on the Shannon entropy proposed by other researchers. The GEP model, with an average RMSE of 0.0301, exhibits superior performance over the Shannon entropy-based equation, with an average RMSE of 0.1049, and the ANN model, with an average RMSE of 0.2815 for all flow depths.

Knowledge of the boundary shear stress distribution in channels is important because it is a key factor affecting on erosion and sedimentation rates. The presence of sediment deposits in sewers is often reported during operation, and circular channels are frequently used in sewer networks. Gene expression programming(GEP) is applied in this study to determine an equation for evaluating the shear stress distribution along the wetted perimeter of a circular channel with a flat bed, because of the presence of sediment on the bed. In view of the parameters affecting the shear stress distribution, five dimensionless parameters are applied to develop six GEP models to be used with 905 experimental data. The impact of the shear stress parameters is studied using the six GEP models and by dividing the wetted perimeter into wall and bed sections. Two equations are extracted from the GEP models' output to estimate wall and bed shear stresses. The best model results are compared with a well-known equation based on the entropy concept. The GEP model predictions of wall and bed shear stresses are very similar to the experimental outcomes, whereas the entropy-based model overestimates the shear stress *** proposed GEP models demonstrate superior performance in estimating the shear stress distribution with a mean absolute percentage error(MAPE) of 3.79% compared to an existing equation with MAPE of 9.52%.

Shear stress distribution prediction in open channels is of utmost importance in hydraulic structural engineering as it directly affects the design of stable *** this study,at first,a series of experimental tests were conducted to assess the shear stress distribution in prismatic compound *** shear stress values around the whole wetted perimeter were measured in the compound channel with different floodplain widths also in different flow depths in subcritical and supercritical conditions.A set of,data mining and machine learning algorithms including Random Forest(RF),M5P,Random Committee,KStar and Additive Regression implemented on attained data to predict the shear stress distribution in the compound *** indicated among these five models;RF method indicated the most precise results with the highest R2 value of ***,the most powerful data mining method which studied in this research compared with two well-known analytical models of Shiono and Knight method(SKM)and Shannon method to acquire the proposed model functioning in predicting the shear stress *** results showed that the RF model has the best prediction performance compared to SKM and Shannon models.

Mitigation of sediment deposition in lined open channels is an essential issue in hydraulic engineering ***,the limiting velocity should be determined to keep the channel bottom clean from sediment ***,sediment transport modeling using various artificial intelligence(AI) techniques has attracted the interest of many *** current integrated study highlights unique insight for modeling of sediment transport in sewer and urban drainage systems.A novel methodology based on the combination of sensitivity and uncertainty analyses with a machine learning technique is proposed as a tool for selection of the best input combination for modeling process at non-deposition conditions of sediment *** one to seven dimensionless parameters,127 models are developed in the current *** order to evaluate the different parameter co mbinations and select the training and te sting data,four strategies are *** the densimetric Froude number(Fr) as the dependent parameter,a model with independent parameters of volumetric sediment concentration(CV) and relative particle size(d/R) gave the best results with a mean absolute relative error(MARE) of 0.1 and a root means square error(RMSE) of *** analysis is applied with a machine learning technique to investigate the credibility of the proposed *** percentage of the observed sample data bracketed by95% predicted uncertainty bound(95 PPU) is computed to assess the uncertainty of the best models.

Background Iranian traditional medicine,originating from Greek medicine,is based on the four elements theory,which defines the origin of life as the composition of the four elements of air,soil,fire,and water[1,2].According to Iranian traditional medicine,actions and reactions of opposite qualities of these four elements and interaction among“themselves by virtue of their respective powers(qualities)”in varying amounts of these combinations form the unique Mizaj(temperament)of each human being[3].Each human being has a unique Mizaj based on the combination of the warmness of fire,the coldness of soil,the wetness of water,and the dryness of air[4,5].The combinations of these elements are generally categorized as Sanguine Mizaj(warm and wet),Choleric(warm and dry),Phlegmatic(cold and wet),Sanguine Mizaj,and Melancholic Mizaj(cold and dry)[4–9].Mizaj is also categorized as innate and *** individual is born with the innate Mizaj,and the acquired type commonly results from living conditions and lifestyle[4,5].

Background: An irreversible renal function impairment is called chronic renal failure (CRF) which finally leads to the “end-stage renal disease” (ESRD) and requires renal replacement therapies. The aim of this study is to evaluate the incidence, prevalence of epidemiological indicators (age, sex), and causes of chronic renal failure in children in Mashhad (one of the big cities of Iran). Methods: This is a cross-sectional study that was conducted on patients’ records over a seven-year period (2008-2014) in Doctor sheikh Children’s Hospital of Mashhad. The inclusion criteria were all children under 20 years old diagnosed with ESRD, with a GFR less than 15 ml/min/1.73 m2 who were referred to the hospital during the study period. Patients’ information, such as age, gender, onset of dialysis, causes of constructing renal failure, and positive or negative antigen of hepatitis B was extracted from their records. Data were analyzed using SPSS 16 software. Results: A total of 326 patients were studied, of which, 56.4% were male. 45.1% were from 7 to 18 years. 56.4% of patients were on hemodialysis and others were on peritoneal dialysis. The most common cause of chronic renal failure in the study was respectively reflux nephropathy (32.9%), nephrotic syndrome (8.9%), neurogenic bladder (5.5%), stones (2.5%), glomerulopathy (2.1%) and cystinosis (1.5%) and (20.9%) had unknown cause. During the 7-year period of study considering the treatment outcomes, 69.3% of patients needed to continue the dialysis;10.4% underwent transplantation;10.4% unfortunately died despite of treatment and 1.5% were cured. Conclusions: It is hoped that considering the clinical symptoms of children with chronic renal failure and the diagnosis of the cause, we can reduce complications of the disease with a quick diagnosis and treatment, as well as appropriate follow-up.
