Scalable production of mesoporous titanium nanoparticles through sequential flash nanocomplexation

Mesoporous titanium nanoparticles(MTNs) have emerged as an important porous semiconductor owning to their large surface area and unique electronic/optical properties. However, the fundamental research for rational manufacturing MTNs in a highly scalable manner remains a challenge. In this study, we report a two-step flash nanocomplexation(FNC) approach to large-scalable generate MTNs through the sequential combination of two multi-inlet vortex mixers. By optimizing the concentrated titanium precursor,polyethylene glycol(PEG)-functionalized silane amount and p H, we have been able to produce MTNs with small particle size(31.5 nm), larger surface area(416.9 m^(2)/g) and pore volume(0.59 cm^(3)/g). Different from the traditional MTNs bulk, FNC-produced MTNs exhibited well-controlled manner and exceptional photocatalytic and antibacterial properties. Importantly, the optimized MTNs outperformed commercial P25 not only in protecting ultraviolet A(UVA)-exposed skin, but also in treating P. aeruginosa-infected wound. We believe that the high controllability and scalability of sequential flash nanocomplexation method offers great opportunities in enhancing the performance of mesoporous titanium nanoparticles.

Preparation of Large Area Double-walled Carbon Nanotube Macro-films with Self-cleaning Properties

Double-walled carbon nanotube （DWCNT） macro-films with large areas, excellent flexibility and superhydrophobicity are reported. The area of the macro-film is larger than 30 cm×15 cm, and this large film can be bended, or folded without any damage, and even can be tailored freely. After a simple modification of perfluoroalkysilane, the surface of the macro-film shows excellent superhydrophobicity with a water contact angle of 165.74-2 deg. and sliding angle lower than 3 deg., the prepared superhydrophobic films showing excellent antifouling, self-cleaning and water-repellent functions. The topographic roughness and perfluoroalkysilane modification are found to contribute to the observed superhydrophobicity. Considering the outstanding electronic, chemical and mechanical properties of DWCNTs, it is expected that this multifunctional DWCNT macro-film has potential applications in many fields.

Antimicrobial use in food animal production:situation analysis and contributing factors

By measuring the quantity and ways in which antimicrobials are used, and reviewing different technical and socioeconomic factors influencing antimicrobial use at farm level, this study discusses the main knowledge gaps in antimicrobial use in food animal production and provides recommendations for future research and policy development. The review reveals that antimicrobial use in food animals exhibit strong regional and species differences, and there are still large information gaps concerning the current state of antimicrobial use. Factors associated with animal health(including antimicrobial resistance),animal health improvement, economic costs and benefits relevant to animal diseases, and potential technological alternatives or alternative systems all have an impact on antimicrobial use on the farm. There is a clear need to resolve the data gap by monitoring antimicrobial use and developing an analytical framework to better understand farmer behaviors under different technical, economic and environmental circumstances.

Synthesis and Characterization of Sphere-like Pt Nanoparticles Supported on DWCNT/WO_3 Nanorods with Electrocatalytic Activity

Tungsten oxide （WO3） nanorods, which were used to load platinum （Pt） nanoparticles, were investi- gated. H2WO4 nanorods with diameters from 10 to 50 nm were obtained when tungsten precursor was added into homogenous double-walled carbon nanotubes （DWCNT） and ethylene glycol （EG） solution. Nanosized rod-like WO3 were achieved after calcination of the DWCNT/H2W04 composite. Sphere-like Pt nanoparticles were loaded on the surface of the nanorods by EG in-situ reduction. Pt particles were isolated by DWCNT/WO3 nanorods and secondary accumulation could be prevented when Pt particles appeared in the DWCNT/WO3 nanorod/EG dispersion solution. Therefore, Pt nanoparticles with mean di- ameters of 2-6 nm could be obtained. Pt-deposited on DWCNT/WO3 nanorods exhibited high electrochemical activity, which could facilitate the low-cost mass production of Pt catalyst.

The study was conducted to investigate the regulatory mechanism of glutamine(Gln)on intestinal inflammation in an Escherichia coli lipopolysaccharide(*** LPS)-induced in vivo and in vitro ***(n=8)weaned at 21 d of age were fed a basal diet(control and LPS groups)or 1%Gln diet(Gln t LPS group)ad libitum for 4 *** d 22,24,26 and 28,piglets in the LPS and Gln t LPS groups were intraperitoneally injected with *** *** porcine epithelial cells(IPEC-J2)(n=6)induced by LPS were used to assess related mechanisms and compound C was used to inhibit adenosine 50-monophosphate-activated protein kinase(AMPK)*** current results showed that compared with the LPS treatment,the Gln t LPS treatment had better growth performance and greater villus height(P<0.05),and the Gln t LPS treatment reduced the rate of diarrhea by 6.4%(P<0.05);the Gln t LPS treatment decreased serum tumor necrosis factor(TNF-ɑ),interleukin-6(IL-6),Kt,cortisol and insulin levels,whereas increased(P<0.05)serum immunoglobulin M and epidermal growth factor levels;the Gln t LPS treatment increased(P<0.05)the expression of aquaporins and AMPK pathwayassociated targets in the jejunum and ileum of piglets,whereas decreased the expression of ion transporters(P<0.05).The in vitro results showed that 4 mmol/L Gln administration could inhibit(P<0.05)cell apoptosis and interleukin-1b(IL-1b),IL-6 and TNF-ɑsecretion in LPS-induced IPEC-J2 cells,promote(P<0.05)mitochondrial respiratory metabolism and increase(P<0.05)the number of mitochondria and mitochondrial membrane *** activity of AMPK was elevated by 70%to 300%in Gln-treated IPEC-J2 cells under LPS challenge or normal *** results indicate that pre-administration of Gln to piglets suppresses intestinal inflammation by modulating the crosstalk between AMPK activation and mitochondrial function.

With an increasing penetration of wind power in the modern electrical grid, the increasing replacement of large conventional synchronous generators by wind power plants will potentially result in deteriorated frequency regulation performance due to the reduced system inertia and primary frequency response. A series of challenging issues arise from the aspects of power system planning,operation, control and protection. Therefore, it is valuable to develop variable speed wind turbines(VSWTs) equipped with frequency regulation capabilities that allow them to effectively participate in addressing severe frequency contingencies. This paper provides a comprehensive surveyon frequency regulation methods for VSWTs. It fully describes the concepts, principles and control strategies of prevailing frequency controls of VSWTs, including future development trends. It concludes with a performance comparison of frequency regulation by the four main types of wind power plants.

Three-dimensional carbon framework as high-proportion sulfur host for high-performance lithium-sulfur batteries

Lithium-sulfur(Li-S)batteries are anticipated as one of the most promising candidates for the highenergy-density storage ***,the insulating nature and shuttling effect of sulfur severely limits their *** incorporation of sulfur with carbon materials has been deemed as one of the most powerful strategies to improve electrical conductivity and suppress soluble polysulfide ***,a novel three-dimensional carbon framework(3DCF)is prepared and employed as a sulfur host(3DCF@S)for Li-S *** 3DCF not only supplies abundant paths for lithium ion diffusion and electron transport,but also strengthens polysulfide immobilization during the lithium/sulfur conversion *** a result,the 3DCF@S with high sulfur content of 90%exhibits a high capacity of 1366 mA h/g at 0.1 C and excellent cycling stability with a satisfactory capacity of 601 mA h/g after 600 cycles at 2.0 *** resultant Li-S button battery based 3DCF@S electrode could power a light-emitting diode for 2 *** acquired 3DCF@S is expected to be widely used in Li-S batteries and this study will promote developments of carbon/sulfur composites for Li-S batteries.

With high penetration of wind energy into modem power systems, a gradual displacement of conventional thermal generator by wind farms and the fluctuating nature of wind speed will result in dynamic active power imbalance leading to corresponding frequency stability issues. Thus, this topic draws a growing attention from industry and academia all over the world devoted to the design, development and application of auxiliary frequency regulation function by variable speed wind turbine （VSWT） for the last couple of years. This paper mainly features a comprehensive overview on industry design and applications, ongoing research activities as well as various national technical requirements regarding the VSWT frequency regulation and spinning reserve. Further, the contribution of offshore HVDC wind farm to power system frequency regulation is discussed in depth.

通过水淬法制备出Mg65Cu25Y10和Mg60Cu30Y10金属玻璃,采用差热分析DTA和X射线衍射对其玻璃形成能力、热稳定性能进行了研究:利用显微维氏硬度仪测量硬度。结果显示:Mg65Cu25Y10合金比Mg60Cu30Y10合金具有更好的玻璃形成能力,前者的过冷液态区间(△Tx=Tx1-Tg)高出后者7．6 K;经过等温退火后,Mg65Cu25Y10金属玻璃晶化起始温度在433 K～493 K之间,而Mg60Cu30Y10金属玻璃的晶化起始温度在533 K～573 K之间,说明Mg60Cu30Y10金属玻璃的热稳定性高于Mg65Cu25Y10;Mg60Cu30Y10较Mg65Cu25Y10有更高的硬度。
