An ethnopharmacological survey of medicinal plants used in the traditional treatment of human infertility in eastern Algeria

Objective:To summarize medicinal plants used in the treatment of couple fertility ***:An ethnopharmacological survey was conducted with 30 traditional healers from some localities of Skikda region in eastern Algeria.A standard questionnaire was used in the interview which focused mainly:the treated fertility disorders,the used medicinal plants species,parts used,and preparation *** relative frequency of citation and percentages of infertility troubles were calculated and ***:The most important treated disorders in men were dysfunction of libido(44.22%),low sperm concentration and motility(25.33%),low semen volume(17.67%)and prostate disorders(5.66%).Women were treated mainly for menstruation disorders(35.32%),breast problems(29.53%)and sexual asthenia(25.82%).The survey identified 28 plant species belonging to 15 families,used by different ethnic groups,particularly women(58.00%),to address different fertility *** plant families were largely used viz Lamiaceae,Asteraceae,and *** term of relative frequency citation,ten dominated plant species were:Zingiber officinalis L.(0.96),Nigella sativa L.(0.83),Lepidium sativum L.(0.80),Capsicum annuum L.(0.60),Cuminum cyminum L.(0.56),Origanum vulgare L.(0.55),Allium sativum L.(0.50),Petroselinum sativum L.(0.43),Salvia officinalis L.(0.42),and Foeniculum vulgare L.(0.40).A number of investigated plants were scientifically confirmed by phytochemical and pharmacological studies to have one or more significant effects on couple ***,much controversy was found in literature concerning the efficacy of some cited ***:The study highlights the important use of medicinal plants in management of couple infertility in eastern *** experimental studies are recommended to confirm or to refute these traditional uses and to ascertain the safety of these medicinal plants to consumers.

Formation mechanism of hydrochemical and quality evaluation of shallow groundwater in the Upper Kebir sub-basin,Northeast Algeria

This study investigates the hydrochemical formation mechanism of shallow groundwater in the Upper Kebir upstream sub-basin(Northeastern Algeria).The objective is to evaluate water quality suitability for domestic purposes through the application of water quality index(WQI).A total of 24 water points(wells and borewells)evenly distributed in the basin were collected and analyzed in the laboratory for determining the major ions and other geochemical parameters in the *** groundwater hydrochemical types were identified as Cl–Na and Cl–HCO_(3)^(–)Na,with the dominant major ions were found in the order of Na^(+)>Ca^(2+)>Mg^(2+)for cations,and Cl^(−)>SO_(4)^(2−)>HCO_(3)^(–)>NO_(3)^(−)for *** suggest that weathering,dissolution of carbonate,sulfate,salt rocks,and anthropogenic activities were the major contributors to ion content in the *** Water Quality Index(WQI)was calculated to assess the water quality of potable *** 50%of the sampled sites exhibited good water ***,the study highlights significant NO_(3)contamination in the study area,with 50%of samples exceeding permissible ***,effective treatment measures are crucial for the safe consumption of groundwater.

Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on Cancer Patients: Experience of the medical oncology department of CHU HASSAN II Fez.

Introduction: In December 2019, COVID 19 spread worldwide, but did not officially start in MOROCCO until March 02, 2020. Since then, this pandemic has significantly impacted the health status of patients in general and cancer patients in particular. The main objective of our study is to evaluate the prognosis of patients treated for cancer and infected with COVID-19. Material and method: A descriptive study with prospective collection was carried out at the medical oncology department of CHU Hassan II in FEZ over a period of two years, from March 2020 to March 2022. Data was carried out on the software SPSS. Results: One hundred cancer patients tested positive for COVID-19 infection and were collected within our department. The average age was 56 years [22-91]. The sex ratio was 1.2. Patients with breast cancer were the most affected by this infection (34%). The clinical symptomatology was dominated by the respiratory syndrome (45%).The diagnosis was made through thoracic CT scan in 62% of cases. 76% of patients were in a metastatic stage. 96% of patients were undergoing oncological treatment. For symptomatique patients, the standard treatment approach involved using antibiotics in 76% of cases. Evolution was marked by recovery in 79% of patients, with a death rate of 12% in this cancer patient population. Conclusion: COVID-19 infection is particularly severe in cancer patients. Mortality among these patients remains high and is associated with overall patient characteristics. However, anticancer treatments have not shown deleterious effects on the course of COVID-19.

Fasting and Cancer: Practice and Patients’ Quality of Life during Ramadan

Introduction: Ramadan is the ninth lunar month of the Muslim calendar, and fasting during Ramadan is one of the five pillars of Islam. Muslim cancer patients and health professionals are faced with a dilemma between the necessity of fasting and its possible adverse effects during Ramadan on the health status of cancer patients. We believe that addressing the issue of fasting in cancer patients is of global interest. Objectives: Prevalence of fasting in cancer patients during Ramadan;Predictive factors of Ramadan fasting in cancer patients;The effect of fasting during Ramadan on the quality of life of cancer patients. Materials and Methods: A structured questionnaire was used to interview adult cancer patients who received chemotherapy IV—or oral treatment at the medical oncology department at the Hassan II University Hospital in Fez during the month of Ramadan 1443 Hijri (April to May 2022). The quality of cancer patients’ lives during their fasting practice in Ramadan was evaluated via the QLQ-C30 questionnaires. Results: 48% of patients did not fast during Ramadan, 22% and 30% were partial and complete fasters respectively. Patients, with OMS 0 to 1, who receive outpatient treatment, non-metastatic patients and patients on oral treatment were more frequent in the completely fasted group. All these factors showed statistically significant values (p < 0.05). 44% of patients sought advice from the treating oncologist if they could fast, while only 15% of patients during Ramadan asked an imam if they could be excused from fasting. A comparison of the QLQ-C30 data showed a significant improvement in emotional functioning with fasting, however, patients had clinically more but not significantly fatigue after fasting. Conclusion: Female gender, good WHO, non-metastatic disease, and oral or outpatient treatment were more likely to be fasting. This study argues that fasting did not influence the quality of life, and appears to significantly improve emotional functioning in

Effect of interlayer anions on chromium removal using Mg–Al layered double hydroxides:Kinetic,equilibrium and thermodynamic studies

The influence of interlayer anions such as NO3-, 5042- and Cl- on Mg-AI hydrotalcites for Cr（Vl） removal from aqueous solution was studied. The structure of the prepared LDHs was characterized by XRD, SEM, FTIR, TGA, BET surface area and pHzpc. The sorbent ability and sorption mechanisms were also investigated. The LDHs exhibit high removal for Cr（VI）, and the sorbed amount depends on the nature of interlayer anion, which decreased in the following order： NO3- 〉 Cl 〉 SO42-, Nitrate-containing LDH reached a Cr（VI） sorption equilibrium within only 30 min. The effects of operating conditions, including initial concentration, solution pH, agitation time and sorbent amount have been studied in batch mode. The optimum conditions were observed at an initial concen- tration of 100 mg. L- 1, pH = 6, agitation time of 60 min and a sorbent dose of 2 g.L- 1. The equilibrium data were fitted to the Langmuir, Freundlich and Dubinin-Radushkevich isotherm models. The Langmuir model was found to sufficiently describe the sorption process, offering a maximum sorption capacity of 71.91 mg-g 1. The sorp- tion kinetic follows pseudo-second-order reaction with high accuracy. Thermodynamic parameters suggested that the sorption process is spontaneous and endothermic in nature.

This paper proposes Adaptive Genetic Algorithms Guided by structural knowledges coming from decomposition methods, for solving PCSPs. The family of algorithms called AGAGD_x_y is designed to be doubly genetic, meaning that any decomposition method and different heuristics for the genetic operators can be considered. To validate the approach, the decomposition algorithm due to Newman was used and several crossover operators based on structural knowledge such as the cluster, separator and the cut were tested. The experimental results obtained on the most challenging Minimum Interference-FAP problems of CALMA instances are very promising and lead to interesting perspectives to be explored in the future.
