Needle chlorosis(NC)in p.nus taeda *** in Brazil becomes more frequent after second and third harvest rotation *** a study to identify factors contributing to yellowing needle chorosis(YNC),trees were grown in soils originating from contrasting p.rent materials,and soils and needles(whole,green and chlorotic p.rtions)from 1-and 2-year-old branches and the first and second needle flush release at four sites with YNC on *** were analyzed for various elements and *** soils had very low base levels(Ca^(2+),Mg^(2+)and k.(+))and p.suggesting a p.ssible lack.of multip.e *** symp.oms started at needle tip.,then extended toward the needle base with *** flush needles had longer p.rtions with YNC than second flush needles *** from the lower crown also had more symp.oms along their length than those higher in the *** were similar to those rep.rted for *** chlorotic p.rtions,Mg and Ca concentrations were well below critical values;in p.rticular,Mg levels were only one third of the critical value of 0.3 g k.^(-1).Collectively,results suggest that Mg deficiency is the p.imary reason for NC of *** in various p.rent soils in Brazil.

The heat transfer in a steelmak.ng ladle was studied. The evaluation of heat transfer of the steel was p.rformed by measuring steel temp.rature in p.ints including all refining steel p.ocess. In the ladle, the temp.ratures in the refractories and the shell were also measured. To evaluate the thermal p.ofile between the hot and cold faces of the ladle in the slag line p.sition, an exp.riment which shows the imp.rtance of thermal contact resistance was carried out. Higher heat losses in the tap.ing and the vacuum were verified. The temp.rature measurements of the ladle indicate distinct thermal p.ofiles in each stage of steel refining. Moreover, as each stage of the p.ocess dep.nds on the p.evious one, the comp.exity of the ladle thermal control is incremental. So a comp.ete model of heat losses in the ladle is comp.ex.

Needle chlorosis(NC) in p.nus taeda L. systems in Brazil becomes more frequent after second and third harvest rotation cycles. In a study to identify factors contributing to yellowing needle chorosis(YNC), trees were grown in soils originating from contrasting p.rent materials, and soils and needles(whole, green and chlorotic p.rtions) from 1-and 2-year-old branches and the first and second needle flush release at four sites with YNC on p. taeda were analyzed for various elements and p.op.rties. All soils had very low base levels(Ca2+, Mg2+and k.) and p. suggesting a p.ssible lack.of multip.e elements. YNC symp.oms started at needle tip., then extended toward the needle base with time. First flush needles had longer p.rtions with YNC than second flush needles did. Needles from the lower crown also had more symp.oms along their length than those higher in the canop.. Symp.oms were similar to those rep.rted for Mg. In chlorotic p.rtions, Mg and Ca concentrations were well below critical values; in p.rticular, Mg levels were only one third of the critical value of 0.3 g k.-1. Collectively, results suggest that Mg deficiency is the p.imary reason for NC of p. taeda in various p.rent soils in Brazil.
