Detection of Perfect Stealthy Attacks on Cyber-Physical Systems Subject to Measurement Quantizations: A Watermark-Based Strategy

In this paper, the attack detection problem is investigated for a class of closed-loop systems subjected to unknownbutbounded noises in the presence of stealthy attacks. The measurement outputs from the sensors are quantized before transmission.A specific type of perfect stealthy attack, which meets certain rather stringent conditions, is taken into account. Such attacks could be injected by adversaries into both the sensor-toestimator and controller-to-actuator channels, with the aim of disrupting the normal data flow. For the purpose of defending against these perfect stealthy attacks, a novel scheme based on watermarks is developed. This scheme includes the injection of watermarks(applied to data prior to quantization) and the recovery of data(implemented before the data reaches the estimator).The watermark-based scheme is designed to be both timevarying and hidden from adversaries through incorporating a time-varying and bounded watermark signal. Subsequently, a watermark-based attack detection strategy is proposed which thoroughly considers the characteristics of perfect stealthy attacks,thereby ensuring that an alarm is activated upon the occurrence of such attacks. An example is provided to demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed mechanism for detecting attacks.

Inferring nonlinear lateral flow immunoassay state-space models via an unscented Kalman filter

This paper is concerned with the problem of learning structure of the lateral flow immunoassay(LFIA) devices via short but available time series of the experiment measurement. The model for the LFIA is considered as a nonlinear state-space model that includes equations describing both the biochemical reaction process of LFIA system and the observation output. Especially, the time-delays occurring among the biochemical reactions are considered in the established model. Furthermore, we utilize the unscented Kalman filter(UKF)algorithm to simultaneously identify not only the states but also the parameters of the improved state-space model by using short but high-dimensional experiment data in terms of images. It is shown via experiment results that the UKF approach is particularly suitable for modelling the LFIA devices. The identified model with time-delay is of great significance for the quantitative analysis of LFIA in both the accurate prediction of the dynamic process of the concentration distribution of the antigens/antibodies and the performance optimization of the LFIA devices.

Pinning controllability of autonomous Boolean control networks

Autonomous Boolean networks(ABNs), which are developed to model the Boolean networks(BNs)with regulatory delays, are well known for their advantages of characterizing the intrinsic evolution rules of biological systems such as the gene regulatory networks. As a special type of ABNs with binary inputs, the autonomous Boolean control networks(ABCNs) are introduced for designing and analyzing the therapeutic intervention strategies where the binary inputs represent whether a certain medicine is dominated or not. An important problem in the therapeutic intervention is to design a control sequence steering an ABCN from an undesirable location(implying a diseased state) to a desirable one(corresponding to a healthy state). Motivated by such background, this paper aims to investigate the reachability and controllability of ABCNs with pinning controllers. Several necessary and sufficient criteria are provided by resorting to the semi-tensor product techniques of matrices. Moreover, an effective pinning control algorithm is presented for steering an ABCN from any given states to the desired state in the shortest time period. Numerical examples are also presented to demonstrate the results obtained.

Causal constraint pruning for exact learning of Bayesian network structure

How to improve the efficiency of exact learning of the Bayesian network structure is a challenging *** this paper,four different causal constraints algorithms are added into score calculations to prune possible parent sets,improving state-ofthe-art learning algorithms’*** results indicate that exact learning algorithms can significantly improve the efficiency with only a slight loss of *** causal constraints,these exact learning algorithms can prune about 70%possible parent sets and reduce about 60%running time while only losing no more than 2%accuracy on ***,with sufficient samples,exact learning algorithms with causal constraints can also obtain the optimal *** general,adding max-min parents and children constraints has better results in terms of efficiency and accuracy among these four causal constraints algorithms.

In order to make the information transmission more efficient and reliable in a digital communication channel with limited capacity, various encoding-decoding techniques have been proposed and widely applied in many branches of the signal processing including digital communications, data compression,information encryption, etc. Recently, due to its promising application potentials in the networked systems(NSs), the analysis and synthesis issues of the NSs under various encoding-decoding schemes have stirred some research attention. However, because of the network-enhanced complexity caused by the limited network resources, it poses new challenges to the design of suitable encoding-decoding procedures to meet certain control or filtering performance for the NSs. In this survey paper, our aim is to present a comprehensive review of the encoding-decodingbased control and filtering problems for different types of ***, some basic introduction with respect to the coding-decoding mechanism is presented in terms of its engineering insights,specific properties and theoretical formulations. Then, the recent representative research progress in the design of the encodingdecoding protocols for various control and filtering problems is discussed. Some possible further research topics are finally outlined for the encoding-decoding-based NSs.

Position tracking and attitude control for quadrotors via active disturbance rejection control method

In this paper, a trigonometric-saturation-function-based position controller is designed for the quadrotor system with internal and external disturbances. Furthermore, in the attitude control problem, a dual closed-loop structure is put forward. Specifically, a nonlinear extended-state-observer(ESO) is employed to provide an estimate for the so-called total disturbance. Then, based on the estimate provided by the ESO,a nonlinear composite control strategy is designed for the purpose of angular tracking. Some sufficient conditions are established to guarantee that the position and attitude subsystems are stable. The contributions are mainly as follows.(1) A trigonometric-saturation-function is used in the position control which could guarantee that the studied system is fully-actuated.(2) The nonlinear ESO is implemented in the attitude control-loop which could enhance the anti-disturbance property. Finally, some numerical simulations and practical experiments are provided to verify the applicability of the proposed methodology.

Microstructure evolution of in-situ nanoparticles and its comprehensive effect on high strength steel

A novel steel strengthened by nanoparticles was investigated in this study. A Fe-based high-strength steel was developed by the trace-element regional supply method during deoxidization to generate in situ nanoparticles with a high number density in the matrix. The results show that the endogenous nanoparticles are aluminum oxide (AI2O3) and titanium oxide (Ti3O5) formed in the liquid melt. Al2O3 functioned as a heterogeneous nucleation site for MnS during solidification;the size of the resultant complex inclusions was approximately 1-2 jjim. Furthermore, 13 nm Nb(C,N) precipitates grew with the Ti30 5 during the tempering process. These in situ nanopartides strongly affected refining of the grain and inclusions. The investigated steel was strengthened more than 200 MPa by precipitation strengthening and more than 265 MPa by grain refinement strengthening according to the Ashby-Orowan mechanism and the Hall-Petch relationship, respectively.

Temperature distribution in front of the liquid-solid interface in the undercooled pure melt influenced by a transverse far field flow

The directional solidification in the undercooled pure melt influenced by a transverse far field flow was studied by using the multiple scale method. The result shows that in the boundary layer near the liquid-solid interface, when affected by a transverse far field flow, the temperature distribution in the direction of crystal growth presents an oscillatory and decay front in the side of liquid phase. The crucial distinguishing feature of a temperature pattern due to the transverse convection is the additional periodic modulation of the pattern in the growth direction. The wave number and eigenvalue that satisfy the Mullins-Sekerka dispersion relation are suppressed by the transverse far field flow.
