Menstrual and Reproductive Characteristics of Patients with Primary Sjogren’s Syndrome:A 7-year Single-center Retrospective Study

Objective Primary Sjogren’s syndrome(pSS)is a systemic autoimmune disease that mainly affects the exocrine gland,especially in women.Currently,the results of studies on the menstruation or fertility of pSS patients remain controversial.This study aimed to examine the menstrual and reproductive characteristics of pSS patients.Methods Clinical data of 449 pSS patients who were admitted to Tongji Hospital in Hubei,China,from January 2015 to November 2021 were obtained and their menstrual and reproductive information analyzed.In addition,the clinical features of pSS patients with premenopausal or postmenopausal onset were compared.Results The spontaneous abortion rate of pSS patients was not higher than the reported rate of the general population and that the age of menarche,menstrual cycle,and menstrual period of pSS patients did not significantly differ from those reported in the general population;however,early menopause seemed to be more common in pSS patients.Skin involvement(27.96%vs.15.00%,P=0.005)and hyperglobulinemia(10.64%vs.4.16%,P=0.033)were more common in patients with premenopausal pSS onset,but patients with postmenopausal onset had a significantly greater incidence of interstitial lung disease(32.50%vs.17.02%,P=0.0004).Also,erythropenia(47.00%vs.31.25%,P=0.002),hypoalbuminemia(19.49%vs.8.22%,P=0.0009),and prevalence of high hypersensitive C-reactive protein levels(21.67%vs.10.94%,P=0.005)were more common in pSS patients with postmenopausal onset.Notably,the rate of abnormal pregnancy was significantly greater in patients with premenopausal onset(9.72%vs.2.50%,P=0.011).Conclusion Patients with pSS onset before or after menopause may have different risks in pulmonary involvement and laboratory manifestations.

Adaptive asymptotic fault-tolerant tracking of uncertain nonlinear systems with unknown control directions

In the article,the issues of asymptotic adaptive tracking control for the uncertain nonlinear systems in the presence of actuator faults and unknown control directions are investigated.By using the properties of the Nussbaum function and backstepping technique,the problems resulting from the unknown signs of the nonlinear control functions are circumvented successfully.Moreover,a new adaptive asymptotic tracking control method is presented with the fault-tolerant control framework,which is capable of realising zero-tracking performance.The stability of the controlled system is ensured through fractional Lyapunov stability analysis.Finally,the validity of the raised scheme is verified by a simulation example.

Scheme for the excitation of thorium-229 nuclei based on electronic bridge excitation

Thorium-229 possesses the lowest first nuclear excited state,with an energy of approximately 8 eV.The extremely narrow linewidth of the first nuclear excited state,with an uncertainty of 53 THz,prevents direct laser excitation and realization of the nuclear clock.We present a proposal using the Coulomb crystal of a linear chain formed by229Th^(3+)ions,where the nuclei of229Th3+ions in the ion trap are excited by the electronic bridge(EB)process.The 7 P1∕2state of the thorium-229 nuclear ground state is chosen for EB excitation.Using the two-level optical Bloch equation under experimental conditions,we calculate that 2 out of 36 prepared thorium ions in the Coulomb crystal can be excited to the first nuclear excited state,and it takes approximately 2 h to scan over an uncertainty of 0.22 eV.Taking advantage of the transition enhancement of EB and the long stability of the Coulomb crystal,the energy uncertainty of the first excited state can be limited to the order of 1 GHz.

Ischemic stroke is a serious cerebrovascular disease with high morbidity and mortality.As a result of ischemia-reperfusion,a cascade of pathophysiological responses is triggered by the imbalance in metabolic supply and demand,resulting in cell loss.These cellular injuries follow various molecular mechanisms solely or in combination with this disorder.Mitochondria play a driving role in the pathophysiological processes of ischemic stroke.Once ischemic stroke occurs,damaged cells would respond to such stress through mitophagy.Mitophagy is known as a conservatively selective autophagy,contributing to the removal of excessive protein aggregates and damaged intracellular components,as well as aging mitochondria.Moderate mitophagy may exert neuroprotection against stroke.Several pathways associated with the mitochondrial network collectively contribute to recovering the homeostasis of the neurovascular unit.However,excessive mitophagy would also promote ischemia-reperfusion injury.Therefore,mitophagy is a double-edged sword,which suggests that maximizing the benefits of mitophagy is one of the direction of future efforts.This review emphasized the role of mitophagy in ischemic stroke,and highlighted the crosstalk between mitophagy and apoptosis/necroptosis.

Effect of Water Absorption on the Mechanical Property and Failure Mechanism of Hollow Glass Microspheres Composite Epoxy Resin Solid Buoyancy Materials

To study the water absorption of hollow glass microspheres(HGMs)composite epoxy resin solid buoyancy materials in the marine environment and its effect on the mechanical properties,the water absorption was measured by immersing the material in distilled water for 36 days at ambient temperature and fitted to Fick’s second law.The strength of materials before and after water absorption were tested by uniaxial experiments,and the effects of the filling ratio and water absorption on the mechanical properties of the materials were analyzed and explained.Finally,the failure modes and mechanism of the hollow glass microspheres composite material were explicated from the microscopic level by scanning electron microscope(SEM).This research will help solve the problems of solid buoyancy materials in ocean engineering applications.

Effective Nikuradse Roughness on the Mobile Plan Bed

Nikuradse roughness(ks) is very important in the sediment transport prediction because it is related to the evaluations of the velocity distribution, shear stress and erosion depth. Dimensionless Nikuradse roughness(ks/D,where D is the sediment diameter) is usually given 1–2.5 on the immobile plan bed or at low shear stress. But it behaves differently on the mobile plan bed at high shear stress with much sediment picked up to movement when the Shields parameter(Θ) is larger than 0.8–1.0. The effective Nikuradse roughness on the mobile plan bed was derived indirectly from the erosion depth correlated to the mobile plan bed thickness considering the mass conservation in the present study. The proposed erosion depth confirmed the relation to the Shields parameters with an extra factor consisting of suspended sediment and its damping to turbulence. The decrement of the erosion depth caused by the increment of the sediment diameter at large shear stress was obtained, which was usually absent in classical empirical formulas based on the bedload theory. Good agreement with experiments was achieved by the present prediction of the Nikuradse roughness, erosion depth and sediment transport rate. Discussion was mainly focused on the prediction improvement caused by considering the impact of suspended sediment and its damping to turbulence.

Fluorescent intracellular imaging of reactive oxygen species and pH levels moderated by a hydrogenase mimic in living cells

The catalytic generation of H_(2) in living cells provides a method for antioxidant therapy.In this study,an[FeFe]-hydrogenase mimic[Ru+Fe_(2)S_(2)@F127(80)]was synthesized by self-assembling polymeric pluronic F-127,catalytic[Fe_(2)S_(2)]sites,and photosensitizer Ru(bpy)_(3)^(2+).Under blue light irradiation,hydrated protons were photochemically reduced to H2,which increased the local pH in living cells(HeLa cells).The generated H2 was subsequently used as an antioxidant to decrease reactive oxygen species(ROS)levels in living cells(HEK 293T,HepG2,MCF-7,and HeLa cells).Our findings revealed that the proliferation of HEK 293T cells increased by a factor of about six times,relative to that of other cells(HepG2,MCF-7,and HeLa cells).Intracellular ROS and pH levels were then monitored using fluorescent cell imaging.Our study showed that cell imaging can be used to evaluate the ability of Ru t Fe2S2@F127 to eliminate oxidative stress and prevent ROS-related diseases.

A linear fluorinated benzocyclobutene-type monomer(4F-bis-BCB) was facilely synthesized by a one-step copper-catalyzed etherification reaction and a simple precipitation post-purification method.Moreover,a series of BCB-based polymeric low-dielectric(low-k)materials were obtained by the thermal-induced ring-opening copolymerization of 4F-bis-BCB with divinyl tetramethyl disiloxanebisbenzocyclobutene(DVS-BCB) monomer and further simple thermal curing at high temperature(200-300℃).The resultant fully cured materials demonstrated excellent low dielectric properties at high frequency of 10 GHz(dielectric constant(D_(k))116°),ultra-low water absorption(lity(surface roughnesslications in high-frequency communication and three-dimensional high-density packaging technologies.

Nonreciprocal generation of Schr?dinger cat state induced by topology

The Schr?dinger cat state produced differently in two directions is anticipated to be a critical quantum resource in quantum information technologies. By exploring the interplay between quantum nonreciprocity and topology in a one-dimensional microcavity array, we obtain the Schr?dinger cat state(a pure quantum state) in a chosen direction at the edge cavity, whereas a classical state in the other direction. This nonreciprocal generation of the cat state originates from the topologically protected chiralitymode excitation in the nontrivial phase, but in the trivial phase, the nonreciprocal generation of cat state vanishes. Thus, our proposal is switchable by tuning the parameters so that a topological phase transition occurs. Moreover, the obtained cat state has nonreciprocal high fidelity, nonclassicality, and quantum coherence, which are sufficient to be used in various one-way quantum technologies, e.g., invisible quantum sensing, noise-tolerant quantum computing, and chiral quantum networks. Our work provides a general approach to control quantum nonreciprocities with the topological effect, which substantially broadens the fields of nonreciprocal photonics and topological physics.
