Protective effects of extracts of Schisandra chinensis stems against acetaminophen-induced hepatotoxicity via regulation of MAPK and caspase-3 signaling pathways

The present study was designed to evaluate protective activity of an ethanol extract of the stems of Schisandra chinensis(SCE) and explore its possible molecular mechanisms on acetaminophen(APAP) induced hepatotoxicity in a mouse model. The results of HPLC analysis showed that the main components of SCE included schisandrol A, schisandrol B, deoxyschisandrin, schisan--drin B, and schisandrin C and their contents were 5.83, 7.11, 2.13, 4.86, 0.42 mg·g^(-1), respectively. SCE extract was given for 7 con--secutive days before a single hepatotoxic dose of APAP(250 mg·kg^(-1)) was injected to mice. Our results showed that SCE pretreatment ameliorated liver dysfunction and oxidative stress, which was evidenced by significant decreases in aspartate transaminase(AST), alanine aminotransferase(ALT), malondialdehyde(MDA) contents and elevations in reduced glutathione(GSH) and superoxide dismutase(SOD) levels. These findings were associated with the result that the SCE pretreatment significantly decreased expression levels of 4-hydroxynonenal(4-HNE) and 3-nitrotyrosine(3-NT). SCE also significantly decreased the expression levels of Bax, mitogen-activated protein kinase(MAPK), and cleaved caspase-3 by APAP exposure. Furthermore, supplementation with SCE suppressed the expression levels of inducible nitric oxide synthase(iNOS) and cyclooxygenase-2(COX-2), suggesting alleviation of inflammatory response. In summary, these findings from the present study clearly demonstrated that SCE exerted significant alleviation in APAP-induced oxidative stress, inflammation and apoptosis mainly via regulating MAPK and caspase-3 signaling pathways.

A multi-phase transport(AMPT)model was constructed as a self-contained kinetic theory-based description of relativistic nuclear collisions as it contains four main components:the fluctuating initial condition,a parton cascade,hadronization,and a hadron ***,we review the main developments after the first public release of the AMPT source code in 2004 and the corre-sponding publication that described the physics details of the model at that *** also discuss possible directions for future developments of the AMPT model to better study the properties of the dense matter created in relativistic collisions of small or large systems.

Dynamical switchable quantum nonreciprocity induced by off-resonant chiral two-photon driving

Optical nonreciprocity,which refers to the direction-dependent emission,scattering and absorption of photons,plays a very important role in quantum engineering and quantum information ***,we propose an all-optical approach to achieve the optical dynamical switchable quantum nonreciprocity by an off-resonant chiral two-photon driving in a single microring cavity,which differs from the conventional nonreciprocal *** is shown that the optical field with time-dependent statistical properties can be generated and the nonreciprocity flips periodically,with switchable photon blockade and photon-induced tunneling *** find that the dynamical system is robust and immune to the parameter variations,which loosens the parameter range of ***,the time window for one-way quantum information is sufficiently wide and *** work opens a new idea for the current quantum nonreciprocal research,which can facilitate a memory functionality and be used for future inmemory superconducting quantum *** other nonreciprocal quantum devices,i.e.,dynamical switchable nonreciprocal squeezing and entanglement,may be inspired by our method,which is expected to have important applications in future quantum technology.

Heat transfer analysis of atomized droplets during high velocity arc spraying

The heat transfer problem of the atomized droplets during high velocity arc spraying (HVAS) was modeled and solved by a numerical method using a Fe-Al alloy, and the influences of several important process parameters on the heat transfer behaviors of the atomized droplets were analyzed. The results show that the initial cooling rates of different size droplets range from 105 to 107 K/s, thus producing the coating microstructure with the features of rapid solidification. The droplet size, atomization gas pressure and droplet superheat have great influences on the heat transfer behavior of the droplet. The droplet temperature and cooling rate are much sensitive to the droplet sizes, but insensitive to the atomization gas pressure and droplet superheat. It can be predicted that the properties of HVAS coatings will be improved by decreasing droplet size as well as increasing atomization gas pressure and droplet superheat in certain extents.

A low-melting-point metal doping strategy for the synthesis of small-sized intermetallic Pt_(5)Ce fuel cell catalysts

Carbon-supported platinum-lanthanum(Pt-Ln)intermetallic compound(IMC)nanoparticles with high activity and robust stability have been demonstrated as promising cathode catalysts for proton-exchange membrane fuel ***,the preparation of Pt-Ln IMC catalysts needs high-temperature annealing treatment that inevitably causes nanoparticle sintering,resulting in significant reduction of the electrochemical surface area and mass-based ***,we prepare small-sized M-doped Pt_(5)Ce(M=Ga,Cd,and Sb)IMCs catalysts via a low-melting-point metal doping *** speculate that the doping of low-melting-point metals can facilitate the generation of vacancies in the crystal lattice through thermal activation and thus reduce the kinetic barriers for the formation of intermetallic Pt_(5)Ce *** prepared Ga-doped Pt_(5)Ce catalyst exhibits a higher electrochemical active surface area(81 m^(2)·gPt^(-1))and a larger mass activity(0.45 A·mgPt^(-1)at 0.9 V)over the undoped Pt_(5)Ce and commercial Pt/C *** the membrane electrode assembly test,the Ga-doped Pt_(5)Ce cathode delivers a power density of 0.98 W·cm^(-2)at 0.67 V,along with a voltage loss of only 27 mV at 0.8 A·cm^(-2)at the end of accelerated stability test.

In this paper,we concentrate on updating the clinical research on sodium-glucose cotransporter inhibitors(SGLTis)for patients with type 2 diabetes who have heart failure with a preserved injection fraction,acute heart failure,atrial fibrillation,primary prevention of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease/cardiovascular disease,and acute myocardial *** searched the data of randomized controlled trials and meta-analyses of SGLTis in patients with diabetes from PubMed between January 1,2020 and April 6,2024 for our *** to our review,certain SGLTis(empagliflozin,dapagliflozin,canagliflozin,and tofogliflozin),but not sodium-glucose cotransporter 1 inhibitor(SGLT1i),exhibit relatively superior clinical safety and effectiveness for treating the abovementioned *** utilization of SGLTis in these patients can foster clinical improvement and offer an alternative medication ***,clinical trials involving SGLTis for certain diseases have relatively small sample sizes,brief intervention durations,and conclusions based on weak evidence,necessitating additional *** findings are significant and valuable for providing a more comprehensive reference and new possibilities for the clinical utilization and scientific exploration of SGLTis.

Fabrication of Polymersomes with Controllable Morphologies through Dewetting w/o/w Double Emulsion Droplets

In this work, monodisperse giant polymersomes are fabricated by dewetting of water-in-oil-in-water double emulsion droplets which are assembled by amphiphilic block copolymer molecules in a microfluidic device. The dewetting process can be tuned by solvation between solvent and amphiphilic block copolymer to get polymersomes with controllable morphology. Good solvent （chloroform and toluene） hinders dewetting process of double emulsion droplets and gets acornlike polymersomes or patched polymersomes. On the other hand, poor solvent （hexane） accelerates the dewetting process and achieves complete separation of inner water phase from oil phase to form complete bilayer polymersomes. In addition, twin polymersomes with bilayer membrane structure are formed by this facile method. The formation mechanism for different polymersomes is discussed in detail.

Microstructure and mechanical properties of ultralow carbon high-strength steel weld metals with or without Cu-Nb addition

Two types of ultralow carbon steel weld metals(with and without added Cu-Nb) were prepared using gas metal arc welding(GMAW) to investigate the correlation between the microstructure and mechanical properties of weld *** results of microstructure characterization showed that the weld metal without Cu-Nb was mainly composed of acicular ferrite(AF), lath bainite(LB), and granular bainite(GB).In contrast, adding Cu-Nb to the weld metal caused an evident transformation of martensite and grain *** weld metals had a high tensile strength(more than 950 MPa) and more than 17% elongation;however, their values of toughness deviated greatly,with a difference of approximately 40 J at-50℃.Analysis of the morphologies of the fracture surfaces and secondary cracks further revealed the correlation between the microstructure and mechanical *** effects of adding Cu and Nb on the microstructure and mechanical properties of the weld metal are discussed;the indication is that adding Cu-Nb increases the hardenability and grain size of the weld metal and thus deteriorates the toughness.
