Climate warming is likely to weaken the performance of two-phase closed thermosyphon on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau

Over the years,numerous geotechnical approaches have been implemented to mitigate the adverse effects of climate warming on various infrastructures in the permafrost region of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau(QTP),such as the Qinghai-Tibet Highway and Railway,and achieved the expected engineering ***,little attention has been given to whether the performance of these geotechnical approaches has changed during the ongoing process of climate *** investigate the performance variation of one of these geotechnical approaches,which is two-phase closed thermosyphon(TPCT),during sustained climate warming,we conducted a statistical analysis of soil temperature monitoring data in 2003-2020 from eight regular embankments and six TPCT embankments in our permafrost monitoring *** results indicate that TPCT undeniably has a cooling effect on the permafrost beneath embankments,even rapidly eliminated previously formed taliks beneath ***,further analysis reveals that the performance of TPCT has been weakening during sustained climate warming,which has confirmed by the re-forming of the taliks beneath embankment where they had been previously *** on the current understanding,we attributed the weakening of thermosyphon performance to a significant reduction in the air temperature freezing index caused by ongoing climate *** this study,we aimed to draw attention to the evolving performance of geotechnical approaches in permafrost regions amid climate warming,prompting necessary engineering innovations to address this situation and ensure the sustainable development of the permafrost region on the QTP.

Response of soil hydrothermal processes within the active layer to variable alpine vegetation conditions on the Qinghai‒Tibet Plateau

Alpine vegetation plays an important role in the thermal stability of the permafrost under a warming climate,as it affects ground hydrothermal *** response of soil hydrothermal dynamics in the active layer to permafrost degradation under different alpine grassland types is unclear on the Qinghai‒Tibet *** this study,long-term soil temperature and soil water content in the active layer were monitored in situ from October 2010 to December 2018 at five sites in the Kaixinling permafrost region on the interior Qinghai‒Tibet Plateau along the QinghaieTibet *** sites included an alpine steppe(AS),three alpine meadows(AM)with different degrees of degraded vegetation,and an alpine swamp meadow(ASM).Based on field-monitored data,the variations in soil temperature,soil water content,and freezeethaw processes were examined in the active *** response characteristics of the soil hydrothermal processes to climate change were analysed under the different alpine *** results showed that the duration of the thawing and freezing stages of the active layer of the AMs was shorter than that of the ASM and the *** average mean annual soil temperature(MAST)in the active layer of the AM((-1.25±0.50)℃)was lower than those in the AS((-0.71±0.39)℃)and ASM((-0.45±0.57)℃),while the AM had the highest rate of soil temperature increase((0.2±0.06)℃ per year).The annual amplitude of ground temperature in the active layer increased with the transition direction of the alpine vegetation type from ASM to AM to *** small surface offset(SO)and thermal offset(TO)(absolute values)indicated that the ground thermal state of the AM was more unstable,as it was more sensitive to the increase in air temperature than the ASM or the *** properties controlled the distribution of soil water content within the active layer,but vegetation improved the shallow soil structure by producing more belowground phytomass,thus,enhancing soil water content in the 0-30 cm layer.

Greenhouse gases(GHGs)emissions from high-cold terrestrial ecosystems underlain by permafrost on the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau(QTP)have received widespread ***,the dominant factors regulating ecosystem respiration(Re)and its components(soil respiration Rs and heterotrophic respiration Rh)and how the differences in carbon emissions from different ecotypes and seasons remain are still *** conducted a 2-year field investigation(August 2018 to October 2020)and applied the structural equation model(SEM)to clarify the changes in the factors controlling the respiration components during different *** results indicate that the R_(e)and its controlling factors in three alpine grassland ecosystems(alpine steppe,alpine meadow,and swamp meadow)vary with ***,autotrophic respiration(Ra)contributes the most to the seasonal changes in R_(e).The R_(e)gradually increases in the early growing season and rapidly decreases in the late growing *** remains relatively stable during the *** these seasonal variations in the respiration components,the dominant factors controlling R_(e)in the nongrowing season are the temperature of the atmosphere–soil interface(heat flux,atmospheric temperature,and soil temperature at 5 cm depth)and microbial activity(microbial carbon and pH)with the variable importance projections>*** the growing season,the dominant factors regulating R_(e),Rs,and Rh are the soil temperature with a standardized direct effect(SDE)of 0.424,soil nutrient conditions(total nitrogen and pH)with SDEs of 0.570–0.614,and microbial activity(microbial carbon)with a SDE of 0.591,*** addition,meteorological conditions have an important impact on the respiration components during the growing ***,the atmospheric vapor pressure is the dominant factor regulating the three respiration components(standardized total effects=0.44−0.53,p<0.001).The optimal soil water contents during the growing season(water c

Constructing oxygen deficiency-rich V_(2)O_(3)@PEDOT cathode for high-performance aqueous zinc-ion batteries

Aqueous zinc-ion batteries(AziBs)have attracted widespread attention due to the advantages of high safety and environmental *** V_(2)O_(3) is a promising cathode,the strong electrostatic interaction between Zn^(2+) and V_(2)O_(3) crystal,and the sluggish reaction kinetics still limit their application in ***,the oxygen defects rich V_(2)O_(3) with conducive poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)(PEDOT)shell(V_(2)O_(3)-Od@PEDOT)was fabricated for AziBs by combining the sulfur-assisted thermal reduction and in-situ polymerization *** introduced oxygen vacancies of V_(2)O_(3)–Od@PEDOT weaken the electrostatic interaction between Zn^(2+) and the host material,improving the interfacial electron transport,while the PEDOT coating enhances the structural stability and conductivity of V_(2)O_(3),thus accelerating the reaction *** on the advantages,V_(2)O_(3)–Od@PEDOT electrode delivers a reversible capacity of 495 mAh·g^(−1) at 0.1 A·g^(−1),good rate capability(189 mAh·g^(−1)at 8.0 A·g^(−1)),and an impressive cycling stability with 90.1%capacity retention over 1000 cycles at 8.0 A·g^(−1).The strategy may provide a path for exploiting the other materials for high performance AziBs.

Analysis of mechanical strengths of extreme line casing joint considering geometric, material, and contact nonlinearities

To address the challenges associated with difficult casing running, limited annular space, and poor cementing quality in the completion of ultra-deep wells, the extreme line casing offers an effective solution over conventional casings. However, due to its smaller size, the joint strength of extreme line casing is reduced, which may cause failure when running in the hole. To address this issue, this study focuses on the CST-ZT Φ139.7 mm × 7.72 mm extreme line casing and employs the elastic-plastic mechanics to establish a comprehensive analysis of the casing joint, taking into account the influence of geometric and material nonlinearities. A finite element model is developed to analyze the forces and deformations of the extreme line casing joint under axial tension and external collapse load. The model investigates the stress distribution of each thread tooth subjected to various tensile forces and external pressures. Additionally, the tensile strength and crushing strength of the extreme line casing joint are determined through both analytical and experimental approaches. The findings reveal that, under axial tensile load, the bearing surface of each thread tooth experiences uneven stress, with relatively high equivalent stress at the root of each thread tooth. The end thread teeth are valuable spots for failure. It is observed that the critical fracture axial load of thread decreases linearly with the increase of thread tooth sequence. Under external pressure, the circumferential stress is highest at the small end of the external thread, leading to yield deformation. The tensile strength of the joint obtained from the finite element model exhibits a relative error of less than 7% compared to the analytical and experimental values,proving the reliability of the finite element model. Durable K-ion batteries with 100% capacity retention up to 40,000 cycles

Currently,the major challenge in terms of research on K-ion batteries is to ensure that they possess satisfactory cycle stability and specific capacity,especially in terms of the intrinsically sluggish kinetics induced by the large radius of K+***,we explore high-performance K-ion half/full batteries with high rate capability,high specific capacity,and extremely durable cycle stability based on carbon nanosheets with tailored N dopants,which can alleviate the change of volume,increase electronic conductivity,and enhance the K+ion *** as-assembled K-ion half-batteries show an excellent rate capability of 468 mA h g^(−1) at 100 mA g^(−1),which is superior to those of most carbon materials reported to ***,the as-assembled half-cells have an outstanding life span,running 40,000 cycles over 8 months with a specific capacity retention of 100%at a high current density of 2000 mA g^(−1),and the target full cells deliver a high reversible specific capacity of 146 mA h g^(−1) after 2000 cycles over 2 months,with a specific capacity retention of 113%at a high current density of 500 mA g^(−1),both of which are state of the art in the field of K-ion *** study might provide some insights into and potential avenues for exploration of advanced K-ion batteries with durable stability for practical applications.

Preparation of yttrium oxide coating with enhanced thermal shock resistance on refractories used for titanium alloy melting and casting

In order to enhance the service life of refractories for melting and casting of titanium alloy,preparation of yttrium oxide coatings on the refractories surface is an effective *** improvement of thermal shock stability of the coating is beneficial to its spalling resistance during the high-temperature service,and the available slurry with good performance is the *** effects of the varieties and contents of dispersant(sodium tripolyphosphate,sodium hexametaphosphate,sodium pyrophosphate,citric acid and polycarboxylate ammonium salt)and binder(aluminum dihydrogen phosphate,zirconium acetate and yttria sol)on the stability,rheological and thixotropic properties of yttrium oxide waterbased slurry were investigated,and the effects of slurry composition design on the thermal shock resistance of the coating were *** results showed that the introduction of polycarboxylate ammonium salt as dispersant significantly improved the stability of the slurry,and the varieties of the binders had significant effects on the dispersibility of the *** aluminum dihydrogen phosphate and polycarboxylate ammonium salt were used as binder and dispersant,respectively,the slurry had better stability,suitable rheological and thixotropic *** using aluminum dihydrogen phosphate as binder,the coating had good thermal shock resistance and no obvious cracks were observed for the coating after thermal shock,which was attributed to the yttrium aluminate binding phase generated in the *** effective method was provided for preparing yttrium oxide coatings with enhanced thermal shock resistance applied in the process of titanium alloy melting and casting.
