Aluminum matrix composites(AMCs) reinforced with graphene nanoplatelets(GNPs) were fabricated by using an accumulative roll-compositing(ARC) ***, mechanical and electrical properties of the nanostructured AMCs were characterized. The results showed that small addition(0.2 vol% and 0.5 vol%) of GNPs can lead to a simultaneous increase in the tensile strength and ductility of the GNPs/Al nanocomposites, as compared with the same processed pure Al. With increasing GNPs content, the tensile strength of the GNPs/Al nanocomposites can be enhanced to 387 MPa with retained elongation of 15%. Meanwhile, the GNPs/Al nanocomposites exhibited a good electrical conductivity of77.8%–86.1% that of annealed pure Al. The excellent properties(high strength, high ductility and high conductivity) of the GNPs/Al are associated with the particular ARC process, which facilitates the uniform dispersion of GNPs in the matrix and formation of ultrafine-grained Al matrix. The strengthening and toughening of the GNPs/Al nanocomposites were discussed considering different mechanisms and the unique effect of GNPs.

BACKGROUND Clinical diagnosis of cirrhotic cardiomyopathy(CCM) often encounters challenges of lack of timeliness and disease severity, with the commonly positive indicator usually associated with advanced heart *** To explore suitable biomarkers for early CCM *** A total of 505 eligible patients were enrolled in this study and divided into four groups according to Child-Pugh classification: Group Ⅰ, Class A without CCM(105 cases);Group Ⅱ, Class A with CCM(175 cases);Group Ⅲ, Class B with CCM(139 cases);and Group Ⅳ, Class C with CCM(86 cases). Logistic regression and receiver operating characteristic(ROC) curve analyses were performed to determine whether red blood cell distribution width(RDW) was an independent risk factor for CCM risk. The relationships between RDW and Child-Pugh scores, Model for End-Stage Liver Disease(MELD) scores, and N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide(NT-proBNP) were analyzed by Pearson correlation *** A constant RDW increase was evident from Group Ⅰ to Group Ⅳ(12.54 ± 0.85, 13.29 ± 1.19, 14.30 ± 1.96, and 16.25 ± 2.13, respectively). Pearson correlation analysis showed that RDW was positively correlated with Child-Pugh scores(r = 0.642, P nificant index(odds ratio: 2.175, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.549-3.054, P nificance when examined by ROC curve analysis(area under the curve: 0.686, 95%CI: 0.624-0.748, P nical indicator for the prediction of diastolic dysfunction in CCM, in which a numerical value of more than 13.05% may indicate an increasing CCM risk.

Synthesis and Antiviral Activity of N-Adamantyl-2- amino（or 2-phenoxy）-acylamides

New N-adamantyl-2-amino-acylamides（3a--3f） and N-adamantyl-2-phenoxy-acetamides（6a--6d） were designed and synthesized by the modification of the amino group of amantadine I and the structures were confirmed by mass spectra（MS） and 1H NMR spectra. The antiviral potencies of the synthesized compounds were evaluated against the replication of influenza virus A/H3N2 subtype in Madin-Darby canine kidney（MDCK） cells. Among the amantadine derivatives, compound 3a bad the strongest antiviral potency and showed activity similar to that of amantadine. Interestingly, the bulky and extended lipophilic moieties on the a-position of the carbonyl group resulted in decreases in potency.

Magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) mixed convection under strong magnetic field and volumetric heat source for buoyancy-assisted flows are studied numerically in this paper. Blanket is one of key components for energy conversion in Tokamak fusion reactor. The physical model employed for simulations is refined from dual-coolant lead-lithium (DCLL) blanket. A magnetic-convection code based on a consistent and conservative scheme is developed with the help of finite volume method, and validated by some Benchmark analytical solutions. The flows inside duct with thermal insulating and electric conducting walls under exponential neutron volumetric heat source are simulated. Based on Boussinesq assumption, the influences of wall electrical conductivity and buoyancy on velocity fields, temperature distributions and Nusselt numbers are investigated. Results illustrates that the wall conductance ratio dominates the flow at low Grashof numbers and high wall conductance ratio, while buoyancy effect dominates the jet flow near side wall at a high Grashof number. In addition, the velocity along flow direction substantially impacts features of the Nusselt number and temperature distribution. Besides, the jet flow results in a higher Nusselt number and lower temperature.

AIM:To evaluate the predictive value of islet autoantibodies for the diagnosis of autoimmune uveitis(AU),as well as to characterize the association bet ween islet autoantibodies and ***:Totally 97 patients with AU and 100 healthy persons without any autoimmune diseases as the control group were *** serum islet autoantibodies were measured using commercial enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay kits(ELISA).A supplementary questionnaire was used to complement the subject's demographics and clinical *** level of glucose concentrations and white blood cells were *** logistic regression was performed to estimate odds ratios(ORs),and 95%confidence intervals(CIs)of AU according to islet autoantibodies and to evaluate the predictive value of islet autoantibodies for AU *** subgroups and other variables were included into ***:In AU patients,the prevalence of detecting at least one of the autoantibodies was 31.9%(31/97).The most frequent autoantibody was ZnT8A(30.9%),followed by GADA(11.3%),IA-2A(4.1%),ICA(2.1%)and IAA(2.1%).Islet autoantibodies were found to be correlated positively with AU diagnosis[OR(95%CI):13.86(3.28,58.50),P<0.001].Moreover,Zn-T8A was remarkably correlated with AU diagnosis[OR(95%CI):6.13(1.96,19.17),P<0.001],In contrast,neither GADA nor other islet antibodies(IA-2A,ICA and IAA)showed any association with AU risk under an additive ***:The prevalence of islet antibodies,especially ZnT8A,in patients with AU is *** antibodies as well as novel biomarkers should be included in routine evaluation at AU and is a valuable biological marker to classify newly-diagnosed uveitis.

Here we propose a new concept of"molecule aging":with some special treatment,a molecule could be"aged"by losing some unknown tiny particles or pieces from atoms in the molecule,Such"aging"or loss of unknown tiny particles does not change apparently its molecular structure or chemical composition,but some physicochemical properties could be changed *** further confirm such"molecule aging"via a long-term electron attacking to age water(H_(2)O)*** IR spectra show no structural difference between the fresh water and the aged one,while the NMR spectra show that the electron attacking can decrease the size of water *** facts indicate that the electron attacking indeed can"affect"the structure of water molecule slightly but without damaging to its basic molecule *** exploration reveals that the hydrogen evolution reaction(HER)activity of the aged water molecule is lower than the fresh water on the same Pt/C *** density functional theory calculations indicate that the shortened O-H bond in H_(2)O indeed can present lower HER activity,so the observed size decrease of water clusters from NMR probably could be attributed to the shortening of O-H bond in water *** results indicate significantly that the molecule aging can produce materials with new functions for new possible applications.

BACKGROUND Globally,the estimated annual incidence of snakebites is approximately 5 million,and approximately 100000 deaths occur from snakebites *** tissue reaction,haemorrhagic clotting disorder,nephrotoxicity,and neurotoxicity are very common effects of snake envenomation,but other rarer complications,such as thrombosis,may also occur as a result of underlying *** the treatment of snakebite patients,attention should be paid to the patient’s underlying diseases to avoid serious and catastrophic consequences secondary to *** SUMMARY We report a 69-year-old man with critical right lower extremity pain after left foot snakebite 10 d prior without intermittent claudication or atrial fibrillation *** was diagnosed with acute right lower extremity arterial thrombosis,which may have been caused by coagulopathy after snakebite and lower extremity atherosclerotic occlusive *** extremity computed tomography angiography at another hospital revealed that the aortoiliac and femoral arteries had neither filling defects nor atherosclerosis,but the right popliteal artery was occluded 2.3 cm below the tibial *** patient received emergency catheter-directed thrombolysis,but amputation was carried out 11 d after admission because the patient had been admitted to the hospital too late to save the *** Acute ischaemia of the lower extremity due to snakebite is a rare event,and physicians should bear in mind the serious complications that may occur,especially in patients with atherosclerotic disease.

BACKGROUND The deterioration of thyroid health is involved in the progression of heart failure(HF).This is usually a lengthy process,so there are almost no reports on its rapid *** we report a case of a young male who rapidly developed hypothyroid cardiomyopathy secondary to radioactive iodine treatment,suggesting that severe HF might occur even after a short period of *** SUMMARY A 26-year-old man was referred to our hospital for HF presenting with dyspnea on exertion and chest discomfort lasting for 1 *** received radioactive iodine treatment for hyperthyroidism 1 year ago and had an almost normal echocardiogram 6 mo *** echocardiogram and cardiac magnetic resonance(CMR)revealed left ventricle(LV)global hypokinesia and severely depressed systolic *** addition,late gadolinium enhancement indicated no obvious changes in the *** function tests showed decreased serum levels of thyroid hormone(TH)and elevated thyroid-stimulating *** on an exclusionary examination,the patient was diagnosed with hypothyroid cardiomyopathy and was started on replacement *** HF symptoms were completely relieved during the six-month follow-up,and echocardiogram and CMR revealed recovered LV size and ejection *** This report demonstrates that severe fluctuations in TH levels may lead to acute HF,which can completely recover with timely thyroid hormone *** addition,our findings highlight the importance of routinely detecting cardiac function in patients treated with radioactive iodine.
