Emphasizing Essential Words for Sentiment Classification Based onRecurrent Neural Networks

With the explosion of online communication and publication, texts become obtainable via forums, chat messages, blogs, book reviews and movie reviews. Usually, these texts are much short and noisy without sufficient statistical signals and enough information for a good semantic analysis. Traditional natural language processing methods such as Bow-of-Word (BOW) based probabilistic latent semantic models fail to achieve high performance due to the short text environment. Recent researches have focused on the correlations between words, i.e., term dependencies, which could be helpful for mining latent semantics hidden in short texts and help people to understand them. Long short-term memory (LSTM) network can capture term dependencies and is able to remember the information for long periods of time. LSTM has been widely used and has obtained promising results in variants of problems of understanding latent semantics of texts. At the same time, by analyzing the texts, we find that a number of keywords contribute greatly to the semantics of the texts. In this paper, we establish a keyword vocabulary and propose an LSTM-based model that is sensitive to the words in the vocabulary; hence, the keywords leverage the semantics of the full document. The proposed model is evaluated in a short-text sentiment analysis task on two datasets: IMDB and SemEval-2016, respectively. Experimental results demonstrate that our model outperforms the baseline LSTM by 1%similar to 2% in terms of accuracy and is effective with significant performance enhancement over several non-recurrent neural network latent semantic models (especially in dealing with short texts). We also incorporate the idea into a variant of LSTM named the gated recurrent unit (GRU) model and achieve good performance, which proves that our method is general enough to improve different deep learning models.

The Yield and Water Use Efficiency to First Cutting Date of Siberian Wildrye in North China

A field experiment study was conducted in Bashang Plateau in North China in 2008 to determine the effect of three first cutting dates on the growth and water use efficiency （WUE） of Siberian wildrye （Elymus sibiricus L.） in the agropastoral ecotone of North China （APENC）. The experiment was conducted in a split plot design with three replications with water supply regime as the main plot treatment and first cutting date as the subplot treatment. Two water supply regimes were used, which included rain-fed treatment as control （CK） and a single irrigation and straw mulch treatment （W）. Three first cutting date treatments were conducted at early heading stage on July 1 （E）, at late heading stage on July 12 （L）, and at flowering stage on July 27 （F）, respectively. The results showed that the forage yield and WUE were the lowest at early heading stage harvest, while the highest at flowering stage either in CK or W treatment. Under combined CK and W treatments, average forage yields of the F subplots were 2 900 and 6 703 kg ha-~, and the values of WUE were 0.82 and 2.28 kg m-3, respectively. Under the CK treatment, forage yields of the E and L subplots were 43.8 and 41.9% lower than the F subplots, and their values of WUE were 46.2 and 50.3% lower than F, respectively. Under the W treatment, the forage yields of the E and L subplots were 74.9 and 61.6% lower, and their values of WUE were 78.1 and 63.3% lower, respectively, as compared with F subplots. Therefore, earlier first cutting did not increase the regrowth of Siberian wildrye and improve the mismatch between rainy season and the period of high growth potential of the grass in the semiarid APENC.

Human responses to flower fragrance of lilium ‘Siberia’ and Rosa ‘Escimo’

The objective of our study was to lay a foundation for the effect of flower flagrance on human emotions and to provide a theory for the choice of indoor plants and the improvement of the olfactory environment. Specifically, our purpose was to study human physiological responses to flower fragrance of lilium ＇Siberia＇ and Rosa ＇Escimo＇. The participants were 31 college students. Blood pressure, pulse rate, finger temperature （FT） and galvanic skin response （GSR） were measured. The results show that the fragrance of Rosa ＇Escimo＇ causes the diastolic pressure and pulse rate of the participants to reduce significantly. The average decrease was 0.37 kPa and 2.23 beats per minute, which indicates that sympathetic nervous activity increases, physiological arousal decreases and emotional alleviation occurs. Furthermore, the GSR of participants significantly increased by smelling the fragrance of lilium ＇Siberia＇, indicating that both sympathetic nervous activity and physiological arousal increased. But the data could not prove that flower fragrance stimulation has an effect on changes in systolic pressure and finger temperature. Some other factors, such as basic emotion and weather, may have an effect.

Investigation of copper sulfate pentahydrate dehydration by terahertz time-domain spectroscopy

Copper sulfate pentahydrate is investigated by terahertz time-domain spectroscopy. It is shown that the terahertz absorption coefficients are correlated with the particle size of the samples, as well as the heating rates of the ambient temperature. Furthermore, the water molecules of copper sulfate pentahydrate can be quantitatively characterized due to the high sensitivity of the terahertz wave to water molecules. Based on such results, the status of water incorporated in mineral opal is also characterized using terahertz time-domain spectroscopy. It indicates that terahertz technology can be considered as an efficient method to detect the dehydration of minerals.

With the energy crisis and the strengthening of the human consciousness on environmental protection, the usage of new energy sources for power generation has attracted wide attention, in which wind power with low-cost and mature technology become relatively faster growth among new energy power generation technology. Because wind energy has the characteristics of random and intermittent, which may affect power systems reliability, it is necessary to assess power systems reliability containing wind farm. Unlike sensitivity method and weighting factor method calculating load loss, the optimal scheduling model is proposed in this paper, which could embody the difference of load and fault duration. The case study results show that the different types of grid-connected wind farms could influence bulk power systems reliability, which should be paid more attentions under actual situation.

Study on the Radiation Synthesis Mechanism and the Electrochemical Property of Polyaniline

As a highly promising conductive polymer material, the synthesis method, structure regulation, and performance improvement of polyaniline (PANI) are hot research topics. In this work, the radiation-induced polymerization of aniline in HNO3 solution was successfully achieved at room temperature without the use of chemical oxidants. Through the analysis of the radiation chemical reactions of inorganic acids and nitrate salt solutions, the characterization of the intermediate free radicals in the irradiated systems, and the influence of the pH of the solutions on the polymerization activity and product morphologies, the radiation-induced polymerization mechanism of aniline is discussed in detail and proposed. Only at a condition of [HNO3]>[aniline], i.e., pHline cations to aniline cation radicals by NO3 generated by radiolysis reactions, and undergoes repeated three steps of monomer free radical recombination, deprotonation, and oxidation reaction of NO3, thus forming a PANI macromolecule. In addition to the polymerization reaction, the aniline units are protonated and oxidized because of the strongly acidity and oxidation of the reaction system under gamma-ray irradiation, which means that the molecular chain structure of the radiation-synthesized PANI can be regulated by pH, nitrate concentration, and irradiation conditions. Radiation-synthesized PANI has a moderate protonation and oxidation state, which can be used for the preparation of PANI supercapacitors with better electrochemical properties than those prepared by chemical oxidation under the same conditions.
