A novel 3D frequency domain SAGE algorithm with applications to parameter estimation in mm Wave massive MIMO indoor channels

Millimeter wave(mm Wave) and massive multiple-input multiple-output(MIMO) wireless communication channels show some new characteristics different from conventional channels. In order to have an in-depth understanding of mm Wave massive MIMO channels, we conduct channel measurements at 16, 28, and 38 GHz frequency bands using virtual large horizontal planar arrays in an indoor office environment. First, a three dimensional(3D) frequency domain(FD) parameter estimation algorithm extended from the space alternating generalized expectation-maximization(SAGE) algorithm is proposed and used to process the measurement ***, by dividing the large array into several sub-arrays and calculating power delay profiles(PDPs), power azimuth angle profiles(PAAPs), and power elevation angle profiles(PEAPs), we analyze the changes of delay,azimuth angle of arrival(AAo A), and elevation Ao A(EAo A) over the large array. We find that the spatial cross-correlation functions(SCCFs) calculated along different directions of the planar array exhibit significant variations. Third, the comparison of the averaged PDPs(APDPs) at three different frequency bands shows that the attenuation increases when mm Wave channels move to high frequency bands. Furthermore, SCCFs of channels at three frequency bands are also compared for two uniform linear arrays(ULAs). We draw conclusion that the correlation coefficients can be affected by not only measurement environments, but also the relative angle between transmitter(Tx) pointing direction and receiver(Rx) large array, and the operating frequency bands.

Origin of the spatial consistency of summer precipitation variability between the Mongolian Plateau and the mid-latitude East Asian summer monsoon region

The Mongolian Plateau(MP) is located in the eastern part of arid Central Asia(ACA). Climatically, much of the MP is dominated by the westerly circulation and has an arid and semi-arid climate;however, the eastern part of the MP is also influenced by the East Asian summer monsoon(EASM) and has a humid and semi-humid climate. Several studies have shown that precipitation variability in the MP differs from that in western ACA but is consistent with that in the EASM region. Here we use monthly precipitation data for 1979–2016 to characterize and determine the origin of the summer precipitation variability of the MP and the EASM region. The results show that the MP and the mid-latitude EASM region exhibit a consistent pattern of precipitation variability on interannual and decadal timescales;specifically, the consistent regions are the MP and North and Northeast China. We further investigated the physical mechanisms responsible for the consistent interdecadal precipitation variability between the MP and the mid-latitude EASM region, and found that the mid-latitude wave train over Eurasia, with positive(negative) geopotential height anomalies over the North Atlantic and ACA and negative(positive) geopotential height anomalies over Europe and the MP, is the key factor responsible for the consistency of precipitation variability in the MP and the mid-latitude EASM region. The positive anomalies over the North Atlantic and ACA and negative anomalies over Europe and the MP would enhance the transport of westerly and monsoon moisture to the MP and North and Northeast China. They could also strengthen the Northeast Asian low, enhance the EASM, and trigger the anomalous ascending motion over the MP which promotes precipitation in the MP and in the mid-latitude EASM region. Overall, our results help explain the spatial variations of paleo-precipitation/humidity reconstructions in East Asia and clarify the reasons for the consistency of the regional climate.

General Decay Pathwise Stability of Neutral Stochastic Differential Equations with Unbounded Delay

Without the linear growth condition, by the use of Lyapunov function, this paper estab- lishes the existence^and-uniqueness theorem of global solutions to a class of neutral stochastic differen- tim equations with unbounded delay, and examines the pathwise stability of this solution with general decay rate. As an application of our results, this paper also considers in detail a two-dimensional unbounded delay neutral stochastic differential equation with polynomial coefficients.

A Bio-inspired Mutual-hook Strategy for the Soft Finger to Improve Load-bearing Capacity and Grasping Stability

Soft grippers have great potential applications in daily life,since they can compliantly grasp soft and delicate ***,the highly elastic fingers of most soft grippers are prone to separate from each other while grasping objects due to their low stiffness,thus reducing the grasping stability and load-bearing *** tackle this problem,inspired from the venus flytrap plant,this work proposes a mutual-hook mechanism to restrain the separation and improve the grasping performance of soft *** novel soft gripper design consists of three modules,a soft finger-cot,two Soft Hook Actuators(SHAs)and two sliding ***,the soft finger-cot covers on the soft finger,increasing the contact area with the target object,two SHAs are fixed to the left and right sides of the finger-cot,and the sliding mechanisms are designed to make SHAs stretch *** demonstrate that the proposed design can restrain the separation of soft fingers substantially,and the soft fingers with the finger-cots can grasp objects three times heavier than the soft fingers without the proposed *** proposed design can provide invaluable insights for soft fingers to restrain the separation while grasping,thus improving the grasping stability and the load-bearing capacity.

Thermodynamic analysis and kinetic optimization of high-energy batteries based on multi-electron reactions

Multi-electron reaction can be regarded as an effective way of building high-energy systems(>500 W h kg-1). However, some confusions hinder the development of multi-electron mechanisms, such as clear concept, complex reaction, material design and electrolyte optimization and full-cell ***, this review discusses the basic theories and application bottlenecks of multi-electron mechanisms from the view of thermodynamic and dynamic principles. In future, high-energy batteries,metal anodes and multi-electron cathodes are promising electrode materials with high theoretical capacity and high output voltage. While the primary issue for the multi-electron transfer process is sluggish kinetics,which may be caused by multiple ionic migration, large ionic radius, high reaction energy barrier, low electron conductivity, poor structural stability, etc., it is urgent that feasible and versatile modification methods are summarized and new inspiration proposed in order to break through kinetic ***, the remaining challenges and future research directions are revealed in detail, involving the search for high-energy systems, compatibility of full cells, cost control, etc.

Synthesis of hierarchical porous carbon with high surface area by chemical activation of(NH_(4))_(2)C_(2)O_(4) modified hydrochar for chlorobenzene adsorption

In this work,hydrothermal technique combined with KOH activation were employed to develop a series of porous carbons (NPCK-x) using tobacco stem as a low-cost carbon source and (NH_(4))_(2)C_(2)O_(4)as a novel nitrogen-doping *** properties of NPCK-x were characterized by Brunauer-Emmett-Teller,field emission scanning electron microscopy,X-ray diffraction,Raman microscope,elemental analysis,and X-ray photoelectron *** showed that the NPCK-x samples possessed large surface areas (maximum:2875 m^(2)/g),hierarchical porous structures,and high degree of disorder.N-containing functional groups decomposed during activation process,which could be the dominant reason for appearance of abundant mesopores and well-developed pore *** chlorobenzene adsorption experiments demonstrated that carbon materials with(NH_(4))_(2)C_(2)O_(4)modification exhibited higher adsorption capacity (maximum:1053 mg/g) than those without modification (maximum:723 mg/g).The reusability studies of chlorobenzene indicated that the desorption efficiency of (NH_(4))_(2)C_(2)O_(4)modified porous carbon reached90.40%after thermal desorption at 100℃ under *** model fitting results exhibited that the existence of mesopores accelerated the diffusion rate of chlorobenzene in porous ***,Grand Canonical Monte Carlo simulation was conducted to verify that micropores with pore sizes of 1.2–2 nm of the optimized porous carbon were the best adsorption sites for chlorobenzene and mesopores with pore sizes of 2–5 nm were also highly active sites for chlorobenzene adsorption.

Numerical and experimental study on the response characteristics of warhead in the fast cook-off process

The response characteristics of the warhead under thermal stimuli conditions are important to the safety *** goal of this study is to obtain data on the warhead in the fast cook-off *** this paper,a numerical calculation method is proposed,whose reliability is supported by comparison with experimental *** the numerical calculation,the temperature distribution,temperature change,and ignition time are *** numerical results show that the ignition time is 76 s after the warhead started to burn and that the maximum temperature of the explosive’s outer surface is 238.3℃ at the ignition *** fast cook-off experiment of the warhead is implemented so as to get the flame temperature and reaction grades that are not available through numerical *** experimental results show that the overpressure fails to reach the preset minimumvalue which is equivalent to 6 kg of TNT and that the reaction grade is *** research results have reference value for the design of the warhead and the reduction of detonation risks.

Coupling control on pillar stress concentration and surface cracks in shallow multi-seam mining

In order to ensure safe mining and reduce surface damage in shallow multi-seam mining,the failure characteristics of interburden strata with different coal pillars offset distances between pillars in the upper and lower seams,the distribution characteristics of stress concentration in coal pillars,and the development characteristics of stratum cracks and subsidence were investigated by physical and UDEC2D ***,the effect of different coal pillar offset distances on stress concentration of coal pillar and development of stratum cracks were *** on those results,a formula for safe mining and reducing surface damage was established,which provided a theoretical basis for safe and environmentally friendly mining in shallow *** to the results,the optimal coal pillar offset distance(the side to side horizontal distance of the upper and lower coal pillars)between the upper and lower coal seams was developed to reduce the stress concentration of coal pillars and surface *** results of this study have been applied in Ningtiaota coal mine and have achieved good results in safe and environmentally friendly mining.

Anisotropic characteristics of granular materials under simple shear

The discrete element method was used to investigate the microscopic characteristics of granular materials under simple shear loading conditions. A series of simple tests on photo-elastic materials were used as a benchmark. With respect to the original experimental observations, average micro-variables such as the shear stress, shear strain and the volumetric dilatancy were extracted to illustrate the performance of the DEM simulation. The change of anisotropic density distributions of contact normals and contact forces was demonstrated during the course of simple shear. On the basis of microscopic characteristics, an analytical approach was further used to explore the macroscopic behaviors involving anisotropic shear strength and anisotropic stress-dilatancy. This results show that under simple shear loading, anisotropic shear strength arises primarily due to the difference between principal directions of the stress and the fabric. In addition, non-coaxiality, referring to the difference between principal directions of the strain rate and the stress, generates less stress-dilatancy. In particular, the anisotropic hardening and anisotropic stress-dilatancy will reduce to the isotropic hardening and the classical Taylor’s stress-dilatancy under proportional loading.
