Nanosized As_2O_3/Fe_2O_3 complexes combined with magnetic fluid hyperthermia selectively target liver cancer cells

AIM:To study the methods of preparing the magnetic nano-microspheres of Fe2O3 and As2O3/Fe2O3 complexes and their therapeutic effects with magnetic fluid hyperthermia(MFH). METHODS:Nanospheres were prepared by chemical co-precipitation and their shape and diameter were ***,micronucleus,cell viability,and LD50 along with other in vivo tests were performed to evaluate the Fe2O3 microsphere *** inhibition ratio of tumors after Fe2O3 and As2O3/Fe2O3 injections combined with induced hyperthermia in xenograft human hepatocarcinoma was calculated. RESULTS:Fe2O3 and As2O3/Fe2O3 particles were round with an average diameter of 20 nm and 100 nm as observed under transmission electron *** exposure to an alternating magnetic field(AMF),the temperature of the suspension of magnetic particles increased to 41-51℃,depending on different particle concentrations,and remained stable *** Fe2O3 microspheres are a new kind of biomaterial without cytotoxic *** LD50 of both Fe2O3 and As2O3/Fe2O3 in mice was higher than 5 g/*** to four weeks after Fe2O3 and As2O3/Fe2O3 complex injections into healthy pig livers,no significant differences were found in serum AST,ALT,BUN and Cr levels among thepigs of all groups(P>0.05),and no obvious pathological alterations were *** exposure to alternating magnetic fields,the inhibition ratio of the tumors was significantly different from controls in the Fe2O3 and As2O3/Fe2O3 groups(68.74% and 82.79%,respectively; P<0.01).Tumors of mice in treatment groups showed obvious necrosis,while normal tissues adjoining the tumor and internal organs did not. CONCLUSION:Fe2O3 and As2O3/Fe2O3 complexes exerted radiofrequency-induced hyperthermia and drug toxicity on tumors without any liver or kidney damage. Therefore,nanospheres are ideal carriers for tumortargeted therapy.

As a lot of electromagnetic pollution and interference issues have emerged,to overcome electromagnetic interference,prevent electromagnetic hazards,and develop new high-performance electromagnetic wave(EMW)absorbers have become a significant task in the field of materials *** this paper,a three-dimensional(3D)carbon nanofibers network with core-shell structure,embedded with varied molar ratios of iron and cobalt(4:0,3:1,2:2,1:3,0:4),was effectively synthesized(Fe/Co@C-CNFs)via *** phase,microstructure,magnetic and EMW absorption properties were *** is discovered that Fe/Co@C-CNFs doped with iron:cobalt=1:1 have excellent EMW absorption *** the matching thickness is 1.08 mm,the minimum reflection loss(RL)value is-18.66 dB,while the maximum effective absorption bandwidth(EAB)reaches 4.2 GHz(13.9-18 GHz)at a thickness of 1.22 *** is owing to the absorbers'superior impedance matching and multiple reflections as well as the conductivity,dielectric,and magnetic losses of carbon nanofibers embedded with Fe-Co alloy *** addition,the radar cross section(RCS)of the absorbers has been calculated by CST Studio Suite,showing that the absorbing coating can effectively reduce the RCS at various angles,especially for Fe/Co@C-CNFs doped with iron:cobalt=1:*** findings not only provide new insights for the preparation of light-weight and high-performance electromagnetic wave absorbers,but also contribute to energy storage and conversion.

Microfluidic production of liposomes through liquid-liquid phase separation in ternary droplets

Liposomes,the self-assembled phospholipid vesicles,have been extensively used in various fields such as artificial cells,drug delivery systems,biosensors and ***,current microfluidic routes to liposomes mostly rely on water-in-oil-in-water double emulsion droplets as templates,and require complex fabrication of microfluidic devices,and tedious manipulation of multiphase *** we present a simple microfluidic approach to preparing monodisperse liposomes from oil-in-water *** demonstration,we used butyl acetate-water-ethanol ternary mixtures as inner phase and an aqueous solution of surfactants as outer phase to make oil-in-water droplets,which can evolve into water-in-oil-in-water double emulsion droplets by liquid-liquid phase separation of ternary ***,the resultant water-in-oil-in-water droplets underwent a dewetting transition to form separated monodisperse liposomes and residual oil droplets,with the assistance of *** method is simple,does not require complex microfluidic devices and tedious manipulation,and provides a new platform for controllable preparation of liposomes.

Will Crash Experience Affect Driver’s Behavior? An Observation and Analysis on Time Headway Variation Before and After a Traffic Crash

Research into the impact of road accidents on drivers is essential to effective post-crash ***,due to limited data and resources,the current research focus is mainly on those who have suffered severe *** this paper,we propose a novel approach to examining the impact that being involved in a crash has on drivers by using traffic surveillance *** traffic video surveillance systems,the locations of vehicles at different moments in time are captured and their headway,which is an important indicator of driving behavior,can be calculated from this *** was found that there was a sudden increase in headway when drivers return to the road after being involved in a crash,but that the headway returned to its pre-crash level over *** further analyzed the duration of the decay using a Cox proportional hazards regression model,which revealed many significant factors(related to the driver,vehicle,and nature of the accident)behind the survival time of the increased *** approach is able to reveal the crash impact on drivers in a convenient and economical *** can enhance the understanding of the impact of a crash on drivers,and help to devise more effective re-education programs and other interventions to encourage drivers who are involved in crashes to drive more safely in the future.

Taking account of the progressive cracking and crushing of the concrete, the full-range nonlinear analysis has been made for a R.C. Structure, from loading to cracking until crushing for some elements. The diagrams showing the distribution of the stresses and the horizontal displacements and the pictures showing the cracking and crushing of the concrete are given. This paper also gives the comparison between the results of nonlinear analysis and linear analysis.

Mutual-structure weighted guided image filtering for depth map restoration

Although guided image filtering(GIF) is known for preserving edges and fast computation, it may produce inaccurate outputs in depth map restoration. In this paper, a novel confidence-weighted GIF called mutual-structure weighted GIF(MSWGIF) is proposed, which replaces the mean filtering strategy in GIF during handling overlapping windows. The confidence value is composed of a depth term and a mutual-structure term, where the depth term is utilized to protect the edges of the output, and the mutual-structure term helps to select accurate windows during the structure characteristics of the guidance image are transferred to the output. Experimental results show that MSWGIF reduces the root mean square error(RMSE) by an average of 12.37%, and the average growth rate of correlation(CORR) is 0.07% on average. Additionally, the average growth rate of structure similarity index measure(SSIM) is 0.34%.

Detecting building changes with off-nadir aerial images

The tilted viewing nature of the off-nadir aerial images brings severe challenges to the building change detection(BCD) problem: the mismatch of the nearby buildings and the semantic ambiguity of the building facades. To tackle these challenges, we present a multi-task guided change detection network model,named as MTGCD-Net. The proposed model approaches the specific BCD problem by designing three auxiliary tasks, including:(1) a pixel-wise classification task to predict the roofs and facades of buildings;(2) an auxiliary task for learning the roof-to-footprint offsets of each building to account for the misalignment between building roof instances; and(3) an auxiliary task for learning the identical roof matching flow between bi-temporal aerial images to tackle the building roof mismatch problem. These auxiliary tasks provide indispensable and complementary building parsing and matching information. The predictions of the auxiliary tasks are finally fused to the main BCD branch with a multi-modal distillation module. To train and test models for the BCD problem with off-nadir aerial images, we create a new benchmark dataset,named BANDON. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our model achieves superior performance over the previous state-of-the-art competitors.

Fatigue life research and experimental verification of superalloy thin-walled structures subjected to thermal-acoustic loads

Rapid alternating stress is formed in structure subjected to harsh thermal-acoustic loads,which will affect fatigue performance and reduce fatigue life ***,fatigue experiment of superalloy thin-walled structure was carried out to obtain fatigue damage location and failure time of the experiment specimen,and S-iN curves of superalloy thin-walled structure at 723 K were ***,dynamic response simulation of superalloy thin-walled structure under the same load as experiment was implemented,and fatigue life was estimated based on the fatigue life prediction model which mainly included:improved rain-flow counting method,Morrow average stress model and Miner linear cumulative damage ***,comparisons between simulation solutions and experimental results achieved a consistency,which verified the validity of the Fatigue Life Prediction Model(FLPM).Moreover,taking a rectangle plate as the analysis object,the distributions of Fain-low circulation blocks and damage levels of the structure were discussed ***,current research indicates that in pre-buckling the structure is in softened area and fatigue life decreases with the increase of temperature;in post-buckling the structure is in hardened area and fatigue life increases with the increase of temperature within a certain range.

Design Strategy of Infrared 4-Hydroxybenzylidene-imidazolinone-Type Chromophores based on Intramolecular Charge Transfer:a Theoretical Perspective

Partial genetically encoded 4-hy-droxybenzylidene-imidazolinone(HBI)-type chromophores are new promising fluorescent probes,which are suitable for imaging and detection of living ***-ever,the lack of infrared chro-mophores hinders the develop-ment *** more than 30 HBI-type chromophores with reg-ular structure modifications were employed and typical spectral redshift change laws and mechanisms were investigated by quantum *** show that both one-photon spectrum(OPS,absorption/emission)and two-photon absorption(TPA)can achieve large redshift via either extending conjugated lengths of frag-3 or enlarging conjugated areas of frag-1 of HBI *** redshifts of all chromophores are highly related to intramolecular charge transfer(ICT),but neutral ones are closely related to the total ICT or electron-accept-ing-numbers of frag-3,and the high correlative factor of anions is the aromaticity of frag-2 *** frag-2 bridge with high aromaticity can open a reverse charge transfer channel in anion relative to neutral,obtaining significant *** on analysis,a new 6-hydroxyl-naphthalene-imidazolinone(HNI)series,which have larger conjugated area in frag-1,are *** OPS and TPA of anionic HNI ones acquire about 76−96 nm and 119−146 nm red-shift relative to traditional HBI series respectively as a *** longest emission of anionic HNI-4 realizes more 244 nm redshift relative to *** work clarifies worthy spectral reg-ularities and redshift mechanisms of HBI-type chromophores and provides valuable design strategy for infrared chromophores synthesis in experiment.
