Endoscopic stenting and concurrent chemoradiotherapy for advanced esophageal cancer:A case-control study

AIM:To evaluate the role of endoscopic stenting with or without concurrent 3-dimensional conformal chemoradiotherapy (3D-CRT) in patients with inoperable esophageal ***:Advanced esophageal cancer patients indicated for esophagectomy received esophageal stents.A part of patients completed 3D-CRT after *** was assessed by endoscopy and computed tomographic scan before and 4 wk after completion of the *** median survival,3D-CRT toxicity and complications were compared between 3D-CRT and control ***:From 1999 to 2008,99 consecutive patients with T3/T4 disease and unsuitable for esophagectomy were placed with esophageal ***-seven patients received 3D-CRT,while 36 patients treated withendoscopic stents alone were recruited as *** 3D-CRT treatment,the median tumor volume of 3D-CRT patients were reduced significantly from 43.7 ± 10.2 cm 3 to 28.8 ± 8.5 cm 3 (P < 0.05).The complete and partial response rate was 85.1%,and no response was 14.9%.After 3D-CRT,the incidence rate of T2 and T3 disease evident on CT scan increased to 78.4% while T4 decreased from 66.7% to 21.6% (P < 0.05).3DCRT Karnofsky Performance Status improved in 3D-CRT patients compared with the control group (P=0.031).3D-CRT patients had a longer survival than the control group (251.7 d vs 91.1 d,P < 0.05).And the median half-year survival rate in 3D-CRT group (91%) was higher than in the control group (50%,P < 0.05).The most common toxicity was leukocytopenia in the 3D-CRT group (46.7% vs 18.8%,P=0.008).The control group had a higher rate of restenosis than the 3D-CRT group (81.3% vs 9.0%,P < 0.05).The rate of nephrotoxicity was increased in 3D-CRT as compared with the control group (31.3% vs 15.6%,P < 0.05).CONCLUSION:3D-CRT can improve dysphagia in patients with inoperable esophageal carcinoma.3D-CRT combined with stenting results in better survival as compared with endoscopic stents used alone.

In this study,a crack-free pyrolysis process of partially cured precursor powder compacts was developed to prepare dense silicon boron carbonitride(SiBCN)monoliths at much lower temperatures(1300℃),thereby circumventing the challenges of sintering densification(>1800℃).Unlike the elastic fracture in over-cured precursors or the viscoelastic deformation in under-cured precursors,the partially cured precursor,exhibiting elastic-plastic deformation behavior,facilitates limited nanoscale pore formation in a dense structure,achieving a balance between crack-free pyrolysis and *** to SiBCN derived from the over-cured precursor(σ=~159 MPa,K_(IC)=1.9 MPa:m^(1/2),Vickers hardness(HV)=7.8 GPa,and E=122 GPa),the resulting SiBCN monolith exhibited significantly improved mechanical properties(σ=~304 MPa,K_(IC)=3.7 MPa-m12,HV=10.6 GPa,and E=161 GPa)and oxidation *** addition,this study investigated the high-temperature performance of SiBCN monoliths,including crystallization and oxidation,and determined the oxidation kinetics induced by pore structure healing and the different oxidation mechanisms of Si-C-N and B-C-N clusters in the amorphous *** to its unique composition and structure,the SiBCN ceramic oxide layer exhibits exceptional self-healing effects on repairing the nanoporous system in the initial stage and shows outstanding high-temperature stability during prolonged oxidation,mitigating adverse effects from bubble formation and *** to the nanoporous structure,the oxidation rate is initially controlled by gas diffusion following a linear law before transitioning to oxide layer diffusion characterized by a parabolic ***,due to different valence bond configurations,Si-C-N transforms into an amorphous SiCNO structure after phase separation,unlike the nucleation and growth of residual B-N-C.

An integrative mathematical model of microwave ion thruster for mHz-frequency thrust noise analysis

Many high-precision space missions need thrusters to produce thrust with low noise to compensate for disturbances and ensure satellite platform stability. Microwave ion thruster is characterized with a wide thrust range and potential for these missions. A cost-effective and accurate mathematical model is crucial for mHz-frequency thrust noise analysis and feedback controller design. The Particle-In-Cell(PIC) and global models are two common simulation tools. The PIC model is characterized with high accuracy but huge computation cost, which is difficult to analyze long-time performance characteristics. Now, the global model is only used for the discharge chamber with low accuracy and cannot reflect ion extraction properties. In this paper, an integrative mathematical model is built for a 1-cm microwave ion thruster and can reflect ion beamlet divergence and impingement on the Accelerator Grid(AG). Simulation results show good agreement with experiments at 0.06 sccm. However, the model demonstrates worse consistency with experiments when the flux increases to 0.1 sccm, which may be because the influence of neutral gas on the Electron Cyclotron Resonance(ECR) is not considered in the model. A long-time(1000 s) simulation is conducted with this model under 35 μN. It takes 3 hrs, and the thrust noise reaches 1 μN/Hz^(0.5) at 1 mHz.

We investigate some relations between two kinds of semigroup regularities, namely the e-property and the eventual continuity, both of which contribute to the ergodicity for Markov processes on Polish *** precisely, we prove that for Markov-Feller semigroup in discrete time and stochastically continuous MarkovFeller semigroup in continuous time, if there exists an ergodic measure whose support has a nonempty interior,then the e-property is satisfied on the interior of the support. In particular, it implies that, restricted on the support of each ergodic measure, the e-property and the eventual continuity are equivalent for the discrete-time and the stochastically continuous continuous-time Markov-Feller semigroups.

Herein,a novel single-atomic Pt doping and interface-rich CoS/Co(OH)_(2)(Pt-CoS/Co(OH)_(2)/C)electrocatalyst has been successfully *** from precise regulation of d-orbital electronic structure modulation on Co site,Pt-CoS/Co(OH)_(2)/C exhibited remarkable HER activity and high stability for hydrogen evolution in splitting both water(73 mV@10 mA·cm^(−2)) and seawater(87 mV@10 mA·cm^(−2)).Notably,atomic Pt doping was introduced into CoS/Co(OH)_(2),which could produce local unbalanced Coulombic force and significantly increased the number of S vacancies,and then expose abundant Co ***,Co(OH)_(2) in Pt-CoS/Co(OH)_(2)/C could act as the adsorption sites for H_(2)O in hydrogen evolution reaction *** functional theory results also proved that atomic Pt doping,S vacancies and Co(OH)_(2) coupling could result in the formation of enriched electronic Co sites and optimize d_(z2) orbital electronic structure,and then realize the depth upward shift of d-band center and enhance the adsorption of H*on Co sites.

Aqueous zinc-ion batteries(AziBs)have attracted widespread attention due to the advantages of high safety and environmental *** V_(2)O_(3) is a promising cathode,the strong electrostatic interaction between Zn^(2+) and V_(2)O_(3) crystal,and the sluggish reaction kinetics still limit their application in ***,the oxygen defects rich V_(2)O_(3) with conducive poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)(PEDOT)shell(V_(2)O_(3)-Od@PEDOT)was fabricated for AziBs by combining the sulfur-assisted thermal reduction and in-situ polymerization *** introduced oxygen vacancies of V_(2)O_(3)–Od@PEDOT weaken the electrostatic interaction between Zn^(2+) and the host material,improving the interfacial electron transport,while the PEDOT coating enhances the structural stability and conductivity of V_(2)O_(3),thus accelerating the reaction *** on the advantages,V_(2)O_(3)–Od@PEDOT electrode delivers a reversible capacity of 495 mAh·g^(−1) at 0.1 A·g^(−1),good rate capability(189 mAh·g^(−1)at 8.0 A·g^(−1)),and an impressive cycling stability with 90.1%capacity retention over 1000 cycles at 8.0 A·g^(−1).The strategy may provide a path for exploiting the other materials for high performance AziBs.
