BACKGROUND Continuous severe horizontal bone defect is common in the aesthetic maxillary anterior area,and presents a major challenge in implant dentistry and requires predictable bone augmentation to increase the width of the alveolar *** SUMMARY A 24-year-old man,with a history of well-controlled IgA nephropathy,presented to the Dentistry Department of our hospital complaining of missing his right maxillary anterior teeth 1 mo *** horizontal alveolar bone defects at sites of teeth 12,13 and 14 were diagnosed.A modified guided bone regeneration surgical approach stabilizing the absorbable collagen membrane and particulate graft materials by periosteal diagonal mattress suture(PDMS)combined with four corner pins was used for this severe continuous horizontal bone *** outcome revealed that the newly formed alveolar ridge dimension increased from 0.72 mm to 11.55 mm horizontally 10 mo postoperatively,with no adverse *** implant surgery was successfully *** This case highlights that PDMS combined with four corner pins is feasible to maintain the space and stabilize the graft and membranes in severe continuous horizontal bone defect.

BACKGROUND Sepsis usually causes hemodynamic *** index is one of the factors to identify the severity of sepsis and an important parameter to guide the procedure of fluid *** present study investigated whether the assessment of hemodynamic indices can predict the outcomes of septic patients undergoing resuscitation *** To evaluate the prognostic value of hemodynamic indices in patients with sepsis after fluid *** A retrospective study was conducted in 120 patients with sepsis at Hainan General Hospital/Hainan Affiliated Hospital of Hainan Medical University between October 2016 and October *** patients were treated with sodium chloride combined with dextran glucose injection for fluid ***’hemodynamic parameters were monitored,including heart rate(HR),cardiac index(CI),systemic vascular resistance index(SVRI),mean arterial pressure(MAP),central venous pressure(CVP),and central venous oxygen *** prognostic value of hemodynamic indices was determined based on the prognosis *** During fluid resuscitation,86 patients developed septic shock and 34 did ***-nine patients survived and 21 patients died at 28 d after the *** rate,CI,mean arterial pressure,SVRI,and CVP were higher in patients with septic shock and patients who died from septic shock than in non-shock patients and patients who survived,and central venous oxygen saturation was lower in patients with shock and patients who died than in non-shock patients and thesurvivors (P < 0.05). Accurately predicting reactive flow is a challenge when characterizing an explosive under external shock stimuli as the shock initiation time is on the order of a *** present study constructs a new Ignition-Growth reaction rate model,which can describe the shock initiation processes of explosives with different initial densities,particle sizes and loading pressures by only one set of model *** with the Lee-Tarver reaction rate model,the new Ignition-Growth reaction rate model describes better the shock initiation process of explosives and requires fewer model ***,the shock initiation of a 2,4-Dinitroanisole(DNAN)-based melt-cast explosive RDA-2(DNAN/HMX(octahydro-1,3,5,7-tetranitro-1,3,5,7-tetrazoncine)/aluminum)are investigated both experimentally and numerically.A series of shock initiation experiments is performed with manganin piezoresistive pressure gauges and corresponding numerical simulations are carried out with the new Ignition-Growth reaction rate *** RDA-2 explosive is found to have higher critical initiation pressure and lower shock sensitivity than traditional explosives(such as the Comp.B explosive).The calibrated reaction rate model parameters of RDA-2 could provide numerical basis for its further application.

BACKGROUND Hip revision surgery is the final treatment option for the failure of artificial hip joints, but it is more difficult than the initial operation. For patients with hip joint loosening around the prosthesis combined with large inflammatory pseudotumours and large segment bone defects, hip revision is even more difficult, and clinical reports are *** SUMMARY Male, 59 years old. The patient underwent left hip replacement 35 years ago and was now admitted to hospital due to massive masses in the left thigh, shortening of the left lower extremity, and pain and lameness of the left hip joint. X-ray, computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging revealed prosthesis loosening, left acetabular bone defect(Parprosky IIIB type), and a bone defect of the left proximal femur(Parprosky IIIA type). Inflammatory pseudotumours were seen in the left hip and left thigh. Hip revision surgery was performed using a 3Dprinted custom acetabular prosthesis was used for hip revision surgery, which was produced by Arcam Electron Beam Melting system with Electron Beam Melting technology. The operation was successful, and the patient was followed up regularly after the operation. The custom-made acetabular prosthesis was well matched, the inflammatory pseudotumour was completely removed, the postoperative hip prosthesis was stable, and the old greater trochanter fracture was well reduced and fixed. The patient was partially weight-bearing with crutches 3 mo after the operation and walked with full weight-bearing after 6 mo. The hip prosthesis was stable, and there was no recurrence of inflammatory pseudotumours at the last follow-up. The Visual Analogue Scale was 3, and the Harris hip score was *** The use of 3D-printed personalized custom prostheses for complex hip revision surgery has satisfactory surgical results and has great clinical application value.

The aim of this study was to investigate the expression of macrophage migration inhibitory factor （MMIF）, hypoxia-inducible factor- 1 α（HIF- 1α ）and vascular endothelial growth factor （VEGF） in the serum and endometrial tissues of patients with endometriosis （EM） and the clinical significance. Eighty EM patients [American Reproductive Association stage Ⅰ （n=20）, stage Ⅱ （n=22）, stage Ⅲ （n=21） and stage Ⅳ （n=17）] were enrolled and divided into mild （10- 14 points, n=28）, moderate （16-24 points, n=27） and severe （26-30 points, n=25） dysmenorrhea groups. The control group included 40 healthy women of childbearing age who underwent routine healthcare examinations in the enrolment period. The expression of MMIF, HIF- 1α and VEGF in the serum and endometrial tissues was measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and Western blotting, respectively. Meanwhile, the sensitivity and specificity of serum MMIF, HIF-1α, and VEGF when separately used as single indexes or jointly used as one index were examined as well. The results showed that serum concentrations of MMIF, HIF-1α, and VEGF were significantly higher in EM patients than in controls （P〈0.05）. The expression of all three proteins in both serum and endometrial tissues increased significantly with the R-AFS stage （P〈0.05） and with dysmenorrheal severity （P〈0.05）. The sensitivity and specificity of the combined detection of serum MMIF, HIF-1α, and VEGF levels were significantly higher than those of single index detection （P〈0.05）. In conclusion, the expression of MMIF, HIF-1α, and VEGF in the serum and endometrial tissues may be used to assess the stage of EM and the severity of dysmenorrhea. Combined evaluation of MMIF, HIF-1α, and VEGF significantly improves the diagnostic sensitivity and specificity.
