Strong electron correlation-induced Mott-insulating electrides of Ae_(5)X_(3)(Ae=Ca,Sr,and Ba;X=As and Sb)

The presence of interstitial electrons in electrides endows them with interesting attributes,such as low work function,high carrier concentration,and unique magnetic *** knowledge and understanding of electrides are thus of both scientific and technological ***,we employ first-principles calculations to investigate Mott-insulating Ae_(5)X_(3)(Ae=Ca,Sr,and Ba;X=As and Sb)electrides with Mn_(5)Si_(3)-type structure,in which half-filled interstitial electrons serve as ions and are *** Mott-insulating property is induced by strong electron correlation between the nearest interstitial electrons,resulting in spin splitting and a separation between occupied and unoccupied *** half-filled antiferromagnetic configuration and localization of the interstitial electrons are critical for the Mott-insulating properties of these *** with that in intermetallic electrides,the orbital hybridization between the half-filled interstitial electrons and the surrounding atoms is weak,leading to highly localized magnetic centers and pronounced correlation ***,the Mott-insulating electrides Ae_(5)X_(3)have very large indirect bandgaps(0.30 eV).In addition,high pressure is found to strengthen the strong correlation effects and enlarge the *** present results provide a deeper understanding of the formation mechanism of Mott-insulating electrides and provide guidance for the search for new strongly correlated electrides.

Three-dimensional Au/carbon nanotube-graphene foam hybrid nanostructure for dendrite free sodium metal anode with long cycle stability

Sodium metal anode has been attracting widely research attention due to its large capacity and low electrode potential as the anode of sodium-ion ***,the uncontrollable growth of Na dendrite is one of the critical issues for its real ***,a three-dimensional(3 D) nanostructure composed of gold nanoparticles(Au NPs) supported on 3 D carbon nanotube-graphene foam(3 D CNT-GF)was designed and fabricated as the host of sodium metal ***@3 D Au/CNT-GF anode can deliver a Coulombic efficiency of 99.14% and stably cycle for 2600 h at 1 mA cm^(-2) with 1 mAh cm^(-2).It can cycle for 300 h at 5 mA cm^(-2) with 1 mAh cm^(-2).Detailed results indicate that its excellent electrochemical performance can be attributed to the unique macroporous structure and sodiophilic surface formed by Au NPs guiding the uniform sodium metal deposition enabled a dendrite-free morphology investigated by the ex-situ SEM and in-situ optical *** last,a full cell was assembled with Na@3 D Au/CNT-GF as the anode and Na_(3) V_(2)(PO_(4))_(3)@C as the *** can deliver a capacity of 84.6 mAh g^(-1) at 100 mA g^(-1)after 200 *** results demonstrate that 3 D Au/CNT-GF is a promising sodium metal anode host.

Piezochromic luminescent materials have shown great potential in advanced optoelectronic ***,most of luminescent materials usually undergo emission quenching under external ***,we demonstrate for the first time that the photoluminescence of carbon dots(CDs)confined within sodium hydroxide can be enhanced when high pressure is *** exhibit a 1.6-fold fluorescence enhancement compared with pristine ***,the enhanced fluorescence intensity can be retained after the release of pressure to ambient conditions.A combination of experimental analysis and theoretical simulations indicates that such an enhanced emission is mainly attributed to the strong conﬁnement resulting from the sodium hydroxide matrix,which can separate the CDs spatially and restrict the nonradiative *** results provide a rational strategy for manipulating the optical properties of CDs with enhanced and retainable photoluminescence(PL)performance,thus opening up a venue for designing luminescent CDs-based materials.

Although lithium metal and sodium metal are promised as ideal anodes for lithium ion batteries(LIBs)and sodium ion batteries(SIBs),they still suffer from inevitable dendrite *** light of this,silver nanoparticles(Ag NPs)are sputtered onto three-dimensional carbon nanotube decorated graphene foam(3D CNT-GF)to construct superior 3D Ag/CNT-GF composite matrix for lithium metal anodes(LMAs)and sodium metal anodes(SMAs).With this design,lithiophilic/sodiophilic Ag NPs could provide favorable sites to guide Li/Na metal nucleation and growth,thus leading to low nucleation overpotentials,high Coulombic efficiency and long cycle ***,3D Ag/CNT-GF electrodes can stably cy-cle for 1000 and 750 cycles at 3 mA cm^(−2)with 1 mAh cm^(−2)for SMAs and LMAs,*** attractively,it can also stably sustain 300 cycles(SMAs)and 500 cycles(LMAs)at a large current den-sity of 5 mA cm^(−2)with 1 mAh cm^(−2).The excellent electrochemical performance can be attributed to the lithiophilic/sodiophilic electrode surface,3D porous electrode structure and the dendrite-free mor-phology as demonstrated by ex-situ scanning electron microscopy(SEM)and in-situ optical microscopy ***,full cells based on Na@3D Ag/CNT-GF||Na 3 V 2(PO 4)3@carbon(NVP@C)and Li@3D Ag/CNT-GF||LiFePO 4(LFP)could deliver highly reversible capacities of 90.1 and 106.4 mAh g^(−1),respec-tively,at 100 mA g^(−1)after 200 cycles for SIBs and LIBs,*** work demonstrates a novel 3D Ag/CNT-GF matrix for boosting Li/Na deposition stability for their future applications.

Polycrystalline Cu_(2)Se bulk materials were synthesized by high-pressure and high-temperature(HPHT)*** effects of synthetic temperature and pressure on the thermoelectric properties of Cu_(2)Se materials were *** results indicate that both synthetic temperature and pressure determine the microstructure and thermoelectric performance of Cu2Se *** increase of synthetic temperature can effectively enhance the electrical conductivity and decrease the lattice thermal conductivity.A two-fold improvement in the power factor is obtained at synthetic temperature of 1000℃ compared to that obtained at room *** b-Cu2Se samples exhibit low and temperatureindependent lattice thermal conductivity ranging from 0.3 to 0.5 Wm^(-1)K^(-1) due to the intrinsic superionic feature and the abundant lattice defects produced at high pressure.A maximum zT of 1.19 at 723 K was obtained for the sample synthesized at 3 GPa and 1000℃.These findings indicate that HPHT technology is an efficient approach to synthesize Cu_(2)Se-based bulk materials.

Effects of aluminum additive on diamond crystallization in the Fe-Ni-C system under high temperature and high pressure conditions

In this paper,we investigate diamond crystallization in Fe-Ni-C with an aluminum additive and the capability of aluminum for converting graphite to diamond in a series of experiments at 4.9-5.5 GPa and 1240-1500°*** experimental results show that the growth habits of diamond crystal have been significantly influenced by the addition of aluminum as a *** crystal color changes from yellow to nearly *** morphology of the synthesized diamond crystals gradually changes from cubic-octahedron to octahedron in the Fe-Ni-C systems with increasing aluminum *** lowest synthesis conditions fell first and then rose with increasing *** found a suitable addition of aluminum is very effective in lowering the synthesis conditions while an excessive aluminum additive may have a suppressive effect on the diamond nucleation.

Properties of B4C-TiB2 ceramics prepared by spark plasma sintering

By doping titanium hydride(TiH2) into boron carbide(B4C), a series of B4C + x wt% TiH2(x = 0, 5, 10, 15, and 20)composite ceramics were obtained through spark plasma sintering(SPS). The effects of the sintering temperature and the amount of TiH2 additive on the microstructure, mechanical and electrical properties of the sintered B4C-TiB2 composite ceramics were investigated. Powder mixtures of B4C with 0–20 wt% TiH2 were heated from 1400℃ to 1800℃ for 20 min under 50 MPa. The results indicated that higher sintering temperatures contributed to greater ceramic density. With increasing TiH2 content, titanium diboride(TiB2) formed between the TiH2 and B4C matrix. This effectively improved Young’s modulus and fracture toughness of the composite ceramics, significantly improving their electrical properties: the electrical conductivity reached 114.9 S·cm-1 at 1800℃ when x = 20. Optimum mechanical properties were obtained for the B4C ceramics sintered with 20 wt% TiH2, which had a relative density of 99.9±0.1%, Vickers hardness of 31.8 GPa,and fracture toughness of 8.5 MPa·m1/2. The results indicated that the doping of fine Ti particles into the B4C matrix increased the conductivity and the fracture toughness of B4C.
