Effects of acupuncture on hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal axis:Current status and future perspectives

The hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal(HPA) axis is a critical component of the neuroendocrine system,playing a central role in regulating the body's stress response and modulating various physiological processes. Dysregulation of HPA axis function disrupts the neuroendocrine equilibrium, resulting in impaired physiological functions. Acupuncture is recognized as a non-pharmacological type of therapy which has been confirmed to play an important role in modulating the HPA axis and thus favorably targets diseases with abnormal activation of the HPA axis. With numerous studies reporting the promising efficacy of acupuncture for neuroendocrine disorders, a comprehensive review in terms of the underlying molecular mechanism for acupuncture, especially in regulating the HPA axis, is currently in need. This review fills the need and summarizes recent breakthroughs, from the basic principles and the pathological changes of HPA axis dysfunction, to the molecular mechanisms by which acupuncture regulates the HPA axis. These mechanisms include the modulation of multiple neurotransmitters and their receptors, neuropeptides and their receptors, and microRNAs in the paraventricular nucleus,hippocampus, amygdala and pituitary gland, which alleviate the hyperfunctioning of the HPA *** review comprehensively summarizes the mechanism of acupuncture in regulating HPA axis dysfunction for the first time, providing new targets and prospects for further exploration of acupuncture.

Single-atom Zn confined in hierarchical hollow microstructure as an acid/base-resistant microwave absorption materials

Developing acid/base-resistant and low-price microwave-absorbing materials with lighter weight is highly desired for practical applications in extreme ***,we demonstrate the successful synthesis of the N-doped porous carbon(NC)material with hierarchical pore structure by the spray pyrolysis *** large specific surface area(SBET=707.53 m^(2)·g^(−1))of materials enables multiple scattering of incident electromagnetic waves,and N doping greatly enhances the electrical conductivity of the ***,single-atom Zn can adjust the local electronic structure of adjacent sites such as carbon and nitrogen atoms,induce the center of polarization,and thus change the dielectric and electronic properties of the host *** porous carbon coating of single-atom Zn avoids the deterioration of electromagnetic parameters caused by the accumulation of magnetic particles under high-temperature *** the same time,they can also be used in various complex environments,such as acidic and basic ***,NC-1000,with high surface area,low density,and good chemical stability,obtained a minimum reflection loss(RLmin)of−50.5 dB and an effective absorption bandwidth(EAB)exceeding 5.1 GHz at the thickness of 1.9 *** soaking in the strong acid and base solution,the electromagnetic wave absorption performance of the material decreased by<15%.Widely available raw materials and a simple preparation scheme are expected to expedite industrial mass production for this novel type of materials.

Molecular mechanism for the unusual enhancement of the second-step chemiluminescence production from the carcinogenic tetrabromohydroquinone and H2O_(2)

We have found recently that two-step intrinsic hydroxyl radical(·OH)-dependent chemiluminescence(CL)could be produced by carcinogenic tetrahaloquinone and H_(2)O_(2).However,the first-step CL was too fast to clearly detect the stepwise generation of·OH and CL,and to distinguish the exact dividing point between the first-step and second-step *** we found that,extremely clear two-step intrinsic CL could be produced by the relative slow reaction of tetrabromohydroquinone(TBHQ)with H_(2)O_(2),which was directly dependent on the two-step·OH ***,the second-step,but not the first-step CL production of TBHQ/H_(2)O_(2)(CRET donor)was markedly enhanced by fluorescein(a typical xanthene dye,CRET acceptor)through a unique chemiluminescence resonance energy transfer(CRET)*** novel CRET system of TBHQ/H_(2)O_(2)/fluorescein was successfully applied for the sensitive detection of TBHQ with the detection limit as low as 2.5μmol/*** findings will help to develop more sensitive and highly efficient CL or CRET systems and specific CL sensor to detect the carcinogenic haloquinones,which may have broad environmental applications.

Effects of dietary astaxanthin supplementation on growth performance, antioxidant status, immune response, and intestinal health of rainbow trout(Oncorhynchus mykiss)

A feeding trial was conducted to assess the impacts of dietary astaxanthin from wall-broken Haematococcus pluvialis(WBHPA) on the growth performance, antioxidant status, immune response, and intestinal health of rainbow trout(Oncorhynchus mykiss). Six experimental diets were formulated with various concentrations of WBHPA, ranging from 0 to 8.4 g/kg(containing 0 to 125 mg/kg astaxanthin). Each diet was fed to triplicate groups of rainbow trout(mean initial weight of 561 g) twice daily for 9 consecutive weeks. The survival rate and feed intake of fish exhibited no significant differences among the dietary groups(P > 0.05). Similarly, dietary inclusion of 25 to 100 mg/kg astaxanthin did not significantly affect the weight gain and daily growth coefficient(P > 0.05), but excessive inclusion of astaxanthin(125 mg/kg) slightly depressed these parameters(P < 0.05). Dietary inclusion of 25 to 50 mg/kg astaxanthin increased the activities of intestinal digestion and absorption enzymes(lipase, creatine kinase, and alkaline phosphatase), while the inclusion of 25 to 75 mg/kg astaxanthin improved the immune response of fish. Furthermore, regardless of inclusion level(25 to 125 mg/kg), dietary astaxanthin supplementation strengthened the intestinal mucosal barrier function and improved antioxidant activity,thereby promoting intestinal development. Conclusively, 25 to 75 mg/kg astaxanthin from WBHPA was recommended to be included in diets for rainbow trout.

Full-spectrum phosphor-converted white-light-emitting diodes(pc-WLED)are emerging as a mainstream technology in semiconductor ***,high-performance blue phosphor which can be excited efficiently by a 400 nm NUV diode chip is still ***,we present a blue-emitting Na_(3)KMg_(7)(PO_(4))6:Eu^(2+)phosphor synthesized by the solid-reaction ***,we find that the using of Li_(2)CO_(3)as flux can significantly improve the crystal quality and thus the emission efficiency of the ***,the excitation peak of the phosphor shifts from 365 to 400 nm,which is pivotal for efficient NUV(400 nm)diode chip *** practical Eu^(2+)concentration is also enhanced by using Li_(2)CO_(3)as flux,and the absorption efficiency is greatly *** phosphor exhibits superior PL thermal stability,namely retains 94%integrated photoluminescence intensity at 150℃of that at 25℃.As a result,the optimized phosphor shows an emission band peaked at 437 nm with a bandwidth of 40 nm and a high external photoluminescence quantum yield of 51.7%.Finally,a pc-WLED was fabricated by using NKMPO:Eu^(2+)blue,Sr_(2)SiO_(4):Eu^(2+)green,CaAlSiN_(3):Eu^(2+)red phosphors,and a 400 nm NUV diode *** shows a high color rendering index of R_(a)=96.4 and a correlated color temperature of 4358 *** results prove that NKMPO:Eu^(2+)is a promising blue phosphor for full-spectrum WLED based on NUV diode chips.

Temperature/electric field induced photoluminescence-modulation effect in dysprosium-doped barium titanate ferroelectric ceramics

Lanthanide(Ln^(3+))based ferroelectric phosphors,with an integration of PL emission and ferroelectric effect,are unveiling an exciting realm of possibilities for multifunctional ferroelectric-optic ***,how the ferroelectric host enables the tuning on the PL emissions through modulating the local structure(e.g.,lattice site,symmetry,strains etc.)of the Ln^(3+)activator is not established *** this work,a luminescent-ferroelectric material,***^(3+)doped BaTiO_(3) ceramic(Ba_(1–x)Dy_(x)TiO_(3)(x=0–0.07),abbr:BTO:Dy^(3+)),was explored to address the aforementioned *** BTO:Dy^(3+)ceramics were synthesized by a solid-state reaction *** crystal structure,photoluminescence(PL)and electric properties(dielectric constant,ferroelectric hysteresis and piezoelectric hysteresis loop)were systematically *** BTO:Dy^(3+)ceramics show two predominant emission peaks,corresponding to the blue magnetic dipole transition(477 nm,4F_(7/2)→6H_(15/2))and yellow electric dipole transition(573 nm,4F_(7/2)→6H_(13/2)),the intensity ration of which can be modulated by the ferroelectric polarization that causes the slight lattice *** a polarization-emission modulation combining with the Dy3+doping could accelerate the color change,from yellow to blue,which is characterized to detect the phase transition,with a method and mechanism were proposed,that is,the phase change is reflected by the PL characteristic peak intensity ***,the current results offer a convenient photoluminescence method for detecting the ferroelectric phase transition and a feasible approach to study the interaction between the photoluminescence and polarization in ferroelectric materials,for providing new insights for the development of multifunctional materials.

Efficient wide-bandgap perovskite solar cells with open-circuit voltage deficit below 0.4 V via hole-selective interface engineering

Wide-bandgap mixed-halide perovskite solar cells(WBG-PSCs)are promising top cells for efficient tandem photovoltaics to achieve high power conversion efficiency(PCE)at low ***,the open-circuit voltage(V_(OC))of WBG-PSCs is still unsatisfactory as the V_(OC)-deficit is generally larger than 0.45 ***,we report a buried interface engineering strategy that substantially improves the V_(OC)of WBG-PSCs by inserting amphiphilic molecular hole-selective materials featuring with a cyanovinyl phosphonic acid(CPA)anchoring group between the perovskite and *** assembly and redistribution of CPA-based amphiphilic molecules at the perovskite-substrate buried interface not only promotes the growth of a low-defect crystalline perovskite thin film,but also suppresses the photo-induced halide phase *** energy level alignment between wide-bandgap perovskite and the hole-selective layer is further improved by modulating the substituents on the triphenylamine donor moiety(methoxyls for MPA-CPA,methyls for Me PA-CPA,and bare TPA-CPA).Using a 1.68 e V bandgap perovskite,the Me PA-CPA-based devices achieved an unprecedentedly high V_(OC)of 1.29 V and PCE of 22.3%under standard AM 1.5 *** V_(OC)-deficit(<0.40 V)is the lowest value reported for *** work not only provides an effective approach to decreasing the V_(OC)-deficit of WBG-PSCs,but also confirms the importance of energy level alignment at the charge-selective layers in PSCs.

Different responses of two adjacent artificial beaches to Typhoon Hato in zhuhai,China

Major differences in beach erosion between two neighboring artificial beaches Xiangluwan Beach(XL beach)and Meiliwan Beach(ML beach)in zhuhai,China,were studied after Super Typhoon *** this study,a fully nonlinear Boussinesq wave model(FUNWAVE)-Total Variation Diminishing(TVD)was used to distinguish the main impact factors,their relative contributions,and the hydrodynamic mechanisms underlying the different beach *** show that compared to the ML beach,the main reason for the relatively weak erosion on Xiangluwan(XL)beach was the smaller beach berm height(accounting for approximately 75.9%of the erosion response).Regarding the beach with a higher berm,the stronger wave-induced undertow flow,along with the higher sediment concentration,led to a higher offshore sediment transport flux,resulting in more severe erosion relative to the beach with a smaller berm *** second most important reason explaining the weak erosion on XL beach was the absence of seawalls(accounting for approximately 17.9%of the erosion response).Wave reflection induced by the seawall could cause higher suspended sediment concentration,resulting in a toe scouring near the *** offshore submerged breakwater protected XL beach slightly(accounting for approximately 6.1%of the erosion response).Due to the higher water level induced by storm surge,most of the wave energy could penetrate through the submerged *** effect of the larger berm width of XL beach was *** to the beach with a larger berm width,the erosion/deposition regions in the beach with a narrower berm width showed shoreward migration,without significant changes in the erosion/deposition *** of this,the larger berm width could reduce the wave energy reaching the *** study of the storm stability of artificial beaches may be applied to beach restoration design.
