Highly efficient cobalt-based amorphous catalyst for peroxymonosulfate activation toward wastewater remediation

Metallic glasses(MGs)are rising novae in the catalytic field,due to their unique amorphous structure,large residual stress,and high density of low coordination sites.However,there is still an absence of suitable MGs'catalysts for advanced oxidation processes(AOPs)with peroxymonosulfate(PMS),the most efficient and promising wastewater remediation technology.Herein,the cobalt-based MG(Co-MG)with a nominal composition of Co_(67)Fe_(4)-Mo_(1.5)Si_(16.5)B_(11)(at%)was utilized as an activator of PMS for azo dye degradation.The results demonstrated that the CoMG/PMS system had an order of magnitude higher efficiency on OrangeⅡ(OII)degradation than the Fe-MG/PMS system.For fundamental study and field application,the effect of adding inorganic anions(Cl^(-),HCO_(3)^(-),H_(2)PO_(4)^(-),SO_(4)^(2-),NO_(3)^(-)),environmental factors,and cycle experiments on the catalytic properties of Co-MG were investigated emphatically to evaluate overall degradation performance.It has demonstrated that the Co-MG with more stability,better corrosion resistance and durability contrasted to Fe-MGs.In addition,the excellent catalytic performance of Co-MG was analyzed based on the quenched experiment,electron paramagnetic resonance(EPR),and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS)analysis.The present results provide not only a new candidate but also shed light on exploring a new kind of AOPs system based on Co-MGs for wastewater treatment.

Bio-inspired smart surface to achieve controllable locomotion through adjustable anisotropic friction

Anisotropic friction generated by microstructured surfaces is crucial for performing functions such as directional locomotion and adhesion in biological systems.Hence,an epoxy-based shape memory polymer(SMP)incorporating Fe_(3)O_(4) nanoparticles is used in this study to create a smart surface with oriented structures to mimic anisotropic friction and exploit human-developed controllable locomotion systems.Applying the specific properties of the epoxy-based SMP,fast switching friction can be achieved by adjusting the topography and stiffness of the microstructures on the surface.In addition,the photothermogenesis effect of Fe_(3)O_(4) nanoparticles induces changes in the asymmetric topography and stiffness on the SMP surface under the irradiation of near-infrared(NIR)light,thereby inducing a rapid switching of the friction force.Furthermore,a microbot is created to demonstrate remotely controlled locomotion,such as unidirectional and round-trip movements,and braking by switching the friction force under NIR light.These results are promising for the design of new intelligent surfaces and interfaces;additionally,they may facilitate the investigation of biological structures and processes.

Three-dimensional boron nitride network/polyvinyl alcohol composite hydrogel with solid-liquid interpenetrating heat conduction network for thermal management

Polyvinyl alcohol hydrogels have been used in wearable devices due to their good flexibility and biocompatibility.However,due to the low thermal conductivity(κ)of pure hydrogel,its further application in high power devices is limited.To solve this problem,melamine sponge(MS)was used as the skeleton to wrap boron nitride nanosheets(BNNS)through repeated layering assembly,successfully preparing a three-dimensional(3D)boron nitride network(BNNS@MS),and PVA hydrogels were formed in the pores of the network.Due to the existence of the continuous phonon conduction network,the BNNS@MS/PVA exhibited an improvedκ.When the content of BNNS is about 6 wt.%,κof the hydrogel was increased to 1.12 W m^(-1)K^(-1),about two times higher than that of pure hydrogel.The solid heat conduction network and liquid convection network cooperate to achieve good thermal management ability.Combined with its high specific heat capacity,the composites have an important application prospect in the field of wearable flexible electronic thermal management.

Perinatal risk factors for pulmonary hemorrhage in extremely low-birth-weight infants

Background Pulmonary hemorrhage (PH) is a life-threatening respiratory complication of extremely low-birth-weight infants (ELBWIs).However,the risk factors for PH are controversial.Therefore,the purpose of this study was to analyze the perinatal risk factors and short-term outcomes of PH in ELBWIs.Methods This was a retrospective cohort study of live born infants who had birth weights that were less than 1000 g,lived for at least 12 hours,and did not have major congenital anomalies.A logistic regression model was established to analyze the risk factors associated with PH.Results There were 168 ELBWIs born during this period.A total of 160 infants were included,and 30 infants were diagnosed with PH.Risk factors including gestational age,small for gestational age,intubation in the delivery room,surfactant in the delivery room,repeated use of surfactant,higher FiO2 during the first day,invasive ventilation during the first day and early onset sepsis (EOS) were associated with the occurrence of PH by univariate analysis.In the logistic regression model,EOS was found to be an independent risk factor for PH.The mortality and intraventricular hemorrhage rate of the group of ELBWIs with PH were significantly higher than those of the group of ELBWIs without PH.The rates of periventricular leukomalacia,moderate-to-severe bronchopulmonary dysplasia and severe retinopathy of prematurity,and the duration of the hospital stay were not significantly different between the PH and no-PH groups.Conclusions Although PH did not extend hospital stay or increase the risk of bronchopulmonary dysplasia,it increased the mortality and intraventricular hemorrhage rate in ELBWIs.EOS was the independent risk factor for PH in ELBWIs.

Recent advances and key opportunities on in-plane micro-supercapacitors:From functional microdevices to smart integrated microsystems

The popularization of portable,implantable and wearable microelectronics has greatly stimulated the rapid development of high-power planar micro-supercapacitors(PMSCs).Particularly,the introduction of new functionalities(e.g.,high voltage,flexibility,stretchability,self-healing,electrochromism and photo/thermal response)to PMSCs is essential for building multifunctional PMSCs and their smart selfpowered integrated microsystems.In this review,we summarized the latest advances in PMSCs from various functional microdevices to their smart integrated microsystems.Primarily,the functionalities of PMSCs are characterized by three major factors to emphasize their electrochemical behavior and unique scope of application.These include but are not limited to high-voltage outputs(realized through asymmetric configuration,novel electrolyte and modular integration),mechanical resilience that includes various feats of flexibility or stretchability,and response to stimuli(self-healing,electrochromic,photo-responsive,or thermal-responsive properties).Furthermore,three representative integrated microsystems including energy harvester-PMSC,PMSC-energy consumption,and all-in-one selfpowered microsystems are elaborately overviewed to understand the emerging intelligent interaction models.Finally,the key perspectives,challenges and opportunities of PMSCs for powering smart microelectronics are proposed in brief.

Hydrogen,as a green and clean next-generation fuel,is a key to achieving the goal of carbon neutrality.Constructing an electrocatalyst with bifunctional hydrogen evolution and oxygen evolution activity in the same electrolyte is a key technology for producing hydrogen via water splitting.Herein,a bimetallic active site catalyst,which possessed an edge-riched MoS_(2)nanoflakes array vertically growing on cubic CoS_(2),forming a nuclear-shell heterogeneous configuration,termed CSC-Mo S_(2)@Co S_(2).was reported The optimal CSC-Mo S_(2)@Co S_(2)-24 possessed good dualfunctional electrocatalytic activity(hydrogen evolution(HER),10 m A·cm^(-2)@241.5 m V and oxygen evolution(OER),10 m A·cm^(-2)@350 m V).Especially,CSC-Mo S_(2)@CoS_(2)-24 exhibited an extremely high mass activity for HER,and only required an overpotential of~550 m V when reaching a large current density of 1422 m A·mg^(-1),which was20.6-fold that of the bulk CoS_(2)(69 m A·mg^(-1)),as well as exhibiting stability of up to 100 h.The good electrocatalytic performance was attributed to the nuclear-shell heterostructure of Mo S_(2)@CoS_(2)hybrid could bring critical synergies,improving efficient mass transfer and electron transfer processes between Co S_(2)and Mo S_(2),which collaboratively promoted the electrocatalytic kinetics.It is foreseeable that the method proposed in this work will have guiding value for the preparation of dual-functional electrocatalysts with multi-interface heterostructures by assembling layered sulfides on cubic sulfides.

Effect of transition on QOL among Chinese children who underwent liver transplantation more than 5 years earlier

Objective:This study was conducted to test the effect of transition on the quality of life(QOL)among Chinese children who underwent liver transplantation more than 5 years earlier.Methods:We delivered the pediatric quality of life inventory(Peds QL)3.0 transplant module before and after“transition”intervention.Results:In the first posttransition measurement(6 months after“transition”),the sections on“about my medicines I,”“my transplant and others,”“treatment anxiety,”“how do I look,”“communication,”and total score were significantly different from those of the pretransition stage(P0.05).Conclusions:The short-term effect of transition was definite,while the long-term effect needs further evidence.

Sensing-Assisted Accurate and Fast Beam Management for Cellular-Connected mmWave UAV Network

Beam management, including initial access (IA) and beam tracking, is essential to the millimeter-wave Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) network. However, the conventional communicationonly and feedback-based schemes suffer a high delay and low accuracy of beam alignment, since they only enable the receiver to passively "hear" the information of the transmitter from the radio domain. This paper presents a novel sensing-assisted beam management approach, the first solution that fully utilizes the information from the visual domain to improve communication performance. We employ both integrated sensing and communication and computer vision techniques and design an extended Kalman filtering method for beam tracking and prediction. Besides, we also propose a novel dual identity association solution to distinguish multiple UAVs in dynamic environments. Real-world experiments and numerical results show that the proposed solution outperforms the conventional methods in IA delay, association accuracy, tracking error, and communication performance.

Pullback Attractors for a Damped Semilinear Wave Equation with Delays

In this paper, we consider the weakly damped wave equations with hereditary effects, and the nonlinearity f satisfies critical growth. The delay term g（t, ut） may be driven by a function with very weak assumptions, namely, just measurability. We analyze the well-posedness of solutions and verify the existence of the pullback ：D-attractor in CH01（Ω） × CL2 （Ω） by constructing the energy functional and combining with the idea of the contractive function.

Atomization characteristics of pyrolysis oil derived from waste tires

The atomization characteristics play a key role in the highly efficient combustion of pyrolysis oil derived from waste tires.In this study,the fuel properties of tire pyrolysis oil(TPO)were initially studied,and then a high-speed camera and a phase Doppler particle analyzer were employed to characterize the atomization feature of TPO.The influence of pressure and nozzle orifice diameter on atomization characteristics such as spray angle,droplet velocity,and droplet size distribution was investigated.The results showed that TPO had a high calorific value of about 43.6 MJ/kg and a low viscosity of 3.84×10^(–6)m^(2)/s at 40℃,which made it have the potential to be used as an alternative fuel.Higher pressure expanded the spray angle and extended the spray in both the axial and radial directions.With increasing pressure,spray angle and droplet velocity raised,and the increase in crushing effect of air reduced the Sauter mean diameter(SMD)of the droplets.To obtain proper atomization quality for combustion,the pressure is expected to be higher than 1.25 MPa.With increasing nozzle orifice diameter,droplet velocity increased,and the SMD of the droplets increased as well due to weakened crushing effect of the orifice.Therefore,the pressure must be increased to maintain the atomization quality when using a nozzle with a larger orifice.Due to the lower viscosity,the velocity and particle size distribution of TPO droplets after atomization were smaller than those of diesel droplets.The extremely small carbon black contained in TPO also contributed to the breaking of droplets and played a certain role in the size reduction of the oil droplets,but it may cause the risk of nozzle blockage.In summary,TPO showed great atomization characteristics for alternative fuel applications.
