Natural Variation of Leaf Thickness and Its Association to Yield Traits in indica Rice

Leaf thickness is an important morphological trait in rice. Its association to the yield potential, as of now has not been documented because of the shortage of the equipment which could conveniently measure the leaf thickness in rice. In this study, the thickness of top three leaves of 208 cultivars had been determined by a nondestructive rice leaf thickness instrument for the research of the natural variation of leaves thickness and its association to yield traits in indica rice. The results showed that the flag leaf was the thickest, and the 2nd leaf was thicker than the 3rd leaf. Analysis of variance indicated the existence of wide genetic diversity of leaf thickness among the investigated indica rice genotypes. The tight correlation among the thicknesses of the top three leaves means that the leaf thickness traits share one genetic control system. Leaf thickness had a significant positive correlation with leaf length and a positive correlation with leaf width, indicated that thicker leaf was beneficial to increasing the single leaf area. The results of correlation analysis revealed that thicker leaf should be profitable to the leaf erection, higher numbers of grains per panicle and higher grains weight per panicle. However, the significantly negative correlation between leaf thickness and number of panicles per plant counteracted the profitability from increased grains weight per panicle, so that the correlations of the thicknesses of the top three leaves to yield and biomass were positive but not significantly. It has made great progress in the genetic improvement of leaves thickness in inbred indica rice breeding in Guangdong Province, China, since the 1990s.

目的探讨新风胶囊(XFC)对白介素(IL)-1β诱导的软骨细胞功能的影响及作用机制。方法构建IL-1β诱导的软骨细胞炎症模型;SD大鼠灌胃制备XFC含药血清。细胞增殖实验(CCK-8)和流式细胞术筛选最佳XFC含药血清浓度;双荧光素酶报告分析miR-502-5p和TRAF2的靶向关系。构建miR-502-5p抑制表达质粒(inhibitor)及阴性对照组,转染至软骨细胞中。分为对照组(NC),IL-1β组,XFC组,IL-1β+NC-inhibitor,IL-1β+miR-502-5pinhibitor,IL-1β+miR-502-5pinhibitor+XFC最佳含药血清组,酶联免疫吸附试验(ELASA)检测IL-1β、肿瘤坏死因子-α(TNF-α)、IL-4、IL-10的水平。逆转录PCR(RT-PCR)、蛋白质免疫印迹实验(WB)、免疫荧光法检测Ⅱ型胶原α1(COL2A1)、基质金属蛋白酶13(MMP13)、软骨蛋白聚糖抗体(ADAMTS5)和miR-502-5p/TRAF2/NF-κB基因的表达。结果与NC组相比,IL-1β组中软骨细胞活力下降,细胞凋亡率升高,且miR-502-5p、IL-4、IL-10和COL2A1表达下降,IL-1β、TNF-α和ADAMTS5、MMP13、TRAF2、NF-κB p65表达升高(P<0.05)。筛选得出20%XFC为最佳含药血清浓度。与IL-1β组相比,XFC含药血清干预后,软骨细胞活力升高,细胞凋亡率下降,IL-1β、TNF-α、ADAMTS5、MMP13、TRAF2、NF-κBp65表达下降,miR-502-5p、IL-4、IL-10和COL2A1表达升高(P<0.05)。与NC-inhibitor相比,转染miR-502-5p inhibitor后,IL-1β、TNF-α、ADAMTS5、MMP13、TRAF2、NF-κB p65表达升高,miR-502-5p、IL-4、IL-10和COL2A1表达下降;与miR-502-5pinhibitor相比,将miR-502-5pinhibitor转染的软骨细胞和最佳XFC含药血清共培养后,XFC含药血清能逆转miR-502-5p抑制状态对软骨细胞炎症和ECM的影响。结论XFC抑制软骨细胞炎症、细胞外基质降解,减轻IL-1β诱导的软骨细胞损伤,其机制可能是通过调节miR-502-5p/TRAF2/NF-κB轴。

Permanganate/sulfite(Mn(VII)/S(IV))process is a promising pre-oxidation technology for sequestering the emerging organic contaminants in drinking water treatment ***(IPM),a representative of iodinated X-ray contrast media,has been widely detected in water sources and has the risk of forming iodinated disinfection byproducts(I-DBPs)in water treatment *** this study,we investigated the evolution of iodine species during the IPM degradation by the Mn(VII)/S(IV)process and its effect on the subsequent formation of I-DBPs during chlorination at pH 7.0 and *** could be effectively degraded in the Mn(VII)/S(IV)process at environmentally relevant pH(pH 7.0 and 8.0).The results of quenching and competitive oxidation kinetic experiments revealed that SO^(·-)_(4)was the major reactive oxidizing species contributing to the degradation of IPM whereas the contributions of HO·and reactive manganese species were negligible in the Mn(VII)/S(IV)process.I–and IO–3were generated while no HOI was detected during the degradation of IPM in the Mn(VII)/S(IV)*** effects of IPM oxidation by Mn(VII)/S(IV)on the subsequent formation of chlorinated disinfection by-products(Cl-DBPs)during chlorination were related to the category of *** pre-oxidation of IPM by Mn(VII)/S(IV)resulted in the generation of I-DBPs during the disinfection process although no I-DBPs were detected if no pre-oxidation was *** finding of this study suggested that attention should be paid to the toxicity of DBPs when water containing iodinated organic contaminants is treated by Mn(VII)/S(IV)process or other pre-oxidation technologies.

The development of efficient non-precious metal catalysts is important for the large-scale application of alkaline hydrogen evolution reaction(HER).Here,we synthesized a composite catalyst of Cu and Mo_(2)C(Cu/Mo_(2)C)using Anderson-type polyoxometalates(POMs)synthesized by the facile soaking method as *** electronic interaction between Cu and Mo_(2)C drives the positive charge of Cu,alleviating the strong adsorption of hydrogen at the Mo site by modulating the d-band center of Mo_(2)*** studying the interfacial water structure using in situ attenuated total reflection surface-enhanced infrared absorption spectroscopy(ATR-SEIRAS),we determined that the positively charged Cu crystals have the function of activating water molecules and optimizing the interfacial water *** interfacial water of Cu/Mo_(2)C contains a large amount of free water,which could facilitate the transport of reaction *** to activated water molecules and optimized interfacial water structure and hydrogen adsorption energy,the overpotential of Cu/Mo_(2)C is 24 mV at a current density of 10 mA·cm^(-2) and 178 mV at a current density of 1000 mA·cm^(-2).This work improves catalyst performance in terms of interfacial water structure optimization and deepens the understanding of water-mediated catalysis.

Clinical research on navel application of Shehuang Paste combined with Chinese herbal colon dialysis in treatment of refractory cirrhotic ascites complicated with azotemia

AIM: To explore the efficacy and mechanism of a novel therapeutic method of traditional Chinese medicine in patients with refractory cirrhotic ascites complicated with azotemia. METHODS: Seventy-five cases of refractory cirrhotic ascites complicated with azotemia were randomly divided into 3 groups: comprehensive treatment (n = 29), simple treatment (n = 24), and control (n = 22). The basic treatment methods were the same in all groups, including liver protecting medicines, diuretics and supportive drugs. The control group underwent only the basic treatment. Shehuang Paste (SHP) was applied to the navels of the two treatment groups once a day for 30 d. Colon dialysis with Chinese herbs was administered to the comprehensive treatment group once every two days. Before and after treatment, we measured abdominal circumference, BUN, Cr, serum Na+, urine Na+/K+, liver function, endotoxin content, NO, and ET-1. Color Doppler ultrasonography was conducted to measure the portal vein blood flow. RESULTS: The total effective rate for ascites was 72.4% in the comprehensive treatment group, 45.8% in the simple treatment, contrasting with 18.2% in the controls. Between the two treatment groups and the controls, there were significant differences in the effective rates (P 0.05).

Prognostic predictors in patients with sepsis after gastrointestinal tumor surgery:A retrospective study

BACKGROUND There have been different reports on mortality of sepsis;however,few focus on the prognosis of patients with sepsis after *** To study the clinical features and prognostic predictors in patients with sepsis after gastrointestinal tumor surgery in intensive care unit(ICU).METHODS We retrospectively screened patients who underwent gastrointestinal tumor surgery at Peking University Cancer Hospital from January 2015 to December *** them,181 patients who were diagnosed with sepsis in ICU were included in our *** was analysed by the Kaplan-Meier *** and multivariate adjusted analyses were performed to identify predictors of *** The 90-d all-cause mortality rate was 11.1%in our *** analysis showed that body mass index(BMI),shock within 48 h after ICU admission,leukocyte count,lymphocyte to neutrophil ratio,international normalized ratio,creatinine,procalcitonin,lactic acid,oxygenation index,and sequential organ failure assessment(SOFA)score within 24 h after ICU admission might be all significantly associated with the prognosis of sepsis after gastrointestinal tumor *** multiple analysis,we found that BMI≤20 kg/m^(2),lactic acid after ICU admission,and SOFA score within 24 h after ICU admission might be independent risk predictors of the prognosis of sepsis after gastrointestinal tumor *** with SOFA score,SOFA score combined with BMI and lactic acid might have higher predictive ability(area under the receiver operating characteristic curve,0.859;95%confidence interval,0.789-0.929).CONCLUSION Lactic acid and SOFA score within 24 h after ICU admission are independent risk predictors of the prognosis of sepsis after gastrointestinal tumor *** score combined with BMI and lactic acid might have good predictive value.
