Anti-aggregation growth and hierarchical porous carbon encapsulation enables the C@VO_(2) cathode with superior storage capability for aqueous zinc-ion batteries

Self-aggregation and sluggish transport kinetics of cathode materials would usually lead to the poor electrochemical performance for aqueous zinc-ion batteries(AZIBs).In this work,we report the construction of C@VO_(2) composite via anti-aggregation growth and hierarchical porous carbon encapsulation.Both of the morphology of composite and pore structure of carbon layer can be regulated by tuning the adding amount of glucose.When acting as cathode applied for AZIBs,the C@VO_(2)-3:3 composite can deliver a high capacity of 281 m Ah g^(-1) at 0.2 A g^(-1).Moreover,such cathode also exhibits a remarkably rate capability and cyclic stability,which can release a specific capacity of 195 m Ah g^(-1) at 5 A g^(-1) with the capacity retention of 95.4%after 1000 cycles.Besides that,the evolution including the crystal structure,valence state and transport kinetics upon cycling were also deeply investigated.In conclusion,benefited from the synergistic effect of anti-aggregation morphology and hierarchical porous carbon encapsulation,the building of such C@VO_(2) composite can be highly expected to enhance the ion accessible site,boost the transport kinetics and thus performing a superior storage performance.Such design concept can be applied for other kinds of electrode materials and accelerating the development of highperformance AZIBs.

An Interdisciplinary Perspective from the Earth Scientist's Periodic Table:Similarity and Connection between Geochemistry and Metallurgy

In 2003,Railsback proposed the Earth Scientist's Periodic Table,which displays a great deal of elemental geology information in accordance with the natural environment of the earth.As an applied science,metallurgy is based on mineral composition and element behavior,that is similar to geochemistry.In this paper,connections and similarities between geology and metallurgy are identified,based on geochemical laws and numerous metallurgical cases.An obvious connection is that simple cations w让h high and low ionic potential are commonly extracted by hydrometallurgy,while those with intermediate ionic potential are extracted by pyrometallurgy.In addition,element affinity in geology is associated with element migration in metallurgic phases.To be specific,in pyrometallurgy,lithophile elements tend to gather in slags,chalcophile elements prefer the matte phase,siderophile elements are easily absorbed into metal melt,and atmophile elements readily enter the gas phase.Furthermore,in hydrometallurgy,the principles of hard/soft acids and bases(HSABs)offer an explanation of how precipitation and dissolution occur in different solutions,especially for fluoride and chloride.This article provides many metallurgical examples based on the principles of geochemistry to verify these similarities and connections.

Monitoring the spontaneous wetting process of hydrophobic microporous membrane assisted by alternating current impedance spectroscopy

In the process of membrane absorption,spontaneous wetting of hydrophobic microporous membrane causes membrane modification and increases membrane phase mass transfer resistance,which have attracted wide interest.However,due to the limitations of previous testing methods,the study of the spontaneous membrane wetting process is limited.Herein,we present a method for monitoring spontaneous membrane wetting by measuring its alternating current(AC)impedance.The impedance tests of the PVDF flat membranes and hollow fiber membranes were conducted in a two-electrode system.The results of equivalent circuit fitting indicate that the impedance value of the unwetted membrane is about 1.02×10^(10)Ω,which is close to the theoretical value of 1.4×10^(10)Ω,and this method can quantify the electrochemical impedance value of membranes with different degrees of spontaneous wetting.In addition,a method of impedance test for real-time monitoring of spontaneous wetting was designed.During the experiment,the timeliness and continuity of this method are confirmed with exact judgment under different conditions.In future work,the impedance data will be used to build model to predict the percentage of membrane wetting degree.

Field-assisted electrocatalysts spark sulfur redox kinetics:From fundamentals to applications

The chief culprit impeding the commercialization of lithium–sulfur(Li–S)batteries is the parasitic shuttle effect and restricted redox kinetics of lithium polysulfides(LiPSs).To circumvent these key stumbling blocks,incorporating electrocatalysts with rational electronic structure modulation into sulfur cathode plays a decisive role in vitalizing the higher electrocatalytic activity to promote sulfur utilization efficiency.Breaking the stereotype of contemporary electrocatalyst design kept on pretreatment,field-assisted electrocatalysts offer strategic advantages in dynamically controllable electrochemical reactions that might be thorny to regulate in conventional electrochemical processes.However,the highly interdisciplinary fieldassisted electrochemistry puzzles researchers for a fundamental understanding of the ambiguous correlations among electronic structure,surface adsorption properties,and catalytic performance.In this review,the mechanisms,functionality explorations,and advantages of field-assisted electrocatalysts including electric,magnetic,light,thermal,and strain fields in Li–S batteries have been summarized.By demonstrating pioneering work for customized geometric configuration,energy band engineering,and optimal microenvironment arrangement in response to decreased activation energy and enriched reactant concentration for accelerated sulfur redox kinetics,cutting-edge insights into the holistic periscope of chargespin-orbital-lattice interplay between LiPSs and electrocatalysts are scrutinized,which aspires to advance the comprehensive understanding of the complex electrochemistry of Li–S batteries.Finally,future perspectives are provided to inspire innovations capable of defeating existing restrictions.

Apatite Geochemical and Nd Isotopic Insights into Trachyte Petrogenesis in the Tianchi Volcanic Area of Changbai Mountain,NE China

We report the oxide,element geochemistry and Nd isotopic geochemical data of apatite in the middle Pleistocene medium-and fine-grained trachyte in the Tianchi volcanic area(TVA)of Changbai Mountain,discussing the relationship between apatite and the composition of the whole rock.The purpose is to use the apatite geochemical data to constrain the evolutionary process of trachytic magma and the petrogenesis of trachyte in the cone-forming period of the Tianchi volcano.Apatite(Ca_(5)(PO_(4))_(3)(OH,F,Cl))is a common accessory mineral that occurs widely in volcanic rocks in the TVA.The apatites in the trachyte are mainly subhedral-anhedral,having the characteristics of magmatic apatite.In terms of oxide and element geochemistry,they have homogeneous Al_(2)O_(3),SiO_(2),MgO,P_(2)O_(5),K_(2)O,CaO and heterogeneous TiO2,with high F content.They are generally enriched in Th,U and LREEs,depleted in Nb,Ta,Zr,Hf and HFSEs,showing negative Ba,Sr and Ti anomalies,similar to those of the whole-rock host trachytes.The ratios of high(La/Yb)_(N),low δEu(Eu/Eu*),Sr/Y value and ΣREE content in apatite,and the F,Sr,Y,Th/U,La/Sm,and Nd/Tb with ΣREE andδEu anomalies showed a linear correlation,all of those indicating that the host magma has the characteristic of high differentiation.The apatite grains generally having ^(147)Sm/^(144)Nd,^(143)Nd/^(144)Nd ratios and ε_(Nd)(t)values of 0.1072-0.1195,0.5123-0.5126 and -3.49 to -0.10,respectively,are similiar to those of the host rock.The Nd model ages TDM1 are 949-803 Ma in apatite.Combined with theεNd(t)value of the apatite core(-7.06 to-3.49),we conclude that the initial magma of the host trachyte was derived from the partial melting of Proterozoic crustal material and there was an assimilation of wall rocks during its evolution.

Near-Term Projections of Global and Regional Land Mean Temperature Changes Considering Both the Secular Trend and Multidecadal Variability

Near-term climate projections are needed by policymakers; however, these projections are difficult because internally generated climate variations need to be considered. In this study, temperature change scenarios in the near-term period 2017-35 are projected at global and regional scales based on a refined multi-model ensemble approach that considers both the secular trend(ST) and multidecadal variability(MDV) in the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 5(CMIP5) simulations. The ST and MDV components are adaptively extracted from each model simulation by using the ensemble empirical mode decomposition(EEMD) filter, reconstructed via the Bayesian model averaging(BMA) method for the historical period 1901-2005, and validated for 2006-16. In the simulations of the "medium" representative concentration pathways scenario during 2017-35, the MDV-modulated temperature change projected via the refined approach displays an increase of 0.44℃(90% uncertainty range from 0.30 to 0.58℃) for global land, 0.48℃(90% uncertainty range from 0.29 to 0.67℃) for the Northern Hemispheric land(NL), and 0.29℃(90% uncertainty range from 0.23 to 0.35℃) for the Southern Hemispheric land(SL). These increases are smaller than those projected by the conventional arithmetic mean approach. The MDV enhances the ST in 13 of 21 regions across the world. The largest MDV-modulated warming effect(46%) exists in central America. In contrast,the MDV counteracts the ST in NL, SL, and eight other regions, with the largest cooling effect(220%) in Alaska.

Dielectric-magnetic integrated absorbers have attracted arousing attention in microwave absorption,however,it still remains a great challenge to simultaneously achieve superior dielectric polarization and strong magnetic loss.Herein,we propose a multi-scale structure optimization strategy to anchor CoNiMOFs derived OD CoNi alloy onto 1 D core-shell Ni@C surface.By decorating with the poly-dopamine layer,the connection between 1 D NiO and CoNi-MOFs precursors was greatly improved via the electrostatic interaction.Benefiting from the overlapping conductive networks,enhanced interfacial polarization among the multi-dimensional heterogeneous interfaces and strong magnetic interaction,the fabricated multi-dimensional Ni@C-CoNi composites exhibit outstanding microwave absorption.Typically,the optimal reflection loss is as high as-51.4 dB at 1.9 mm,and the effective absorption bandwidth achieves 4.6 GHz with a thickness of only 1.3 mm.This multi-scale structure optimization strategy inspires us with an efficient method to fabricate ideal microwave absorbers and the obtained multi-dimensional composites can be used as promising candidates in electromagnetic radiation protection.

Situational latent class model of activity-travel decisions under travel information provision and uncertainty

Travel information may result in activity-travel rescheduling decisions,which goes beyond simple route/link choices,and involves multiple uncertain events that may appear at different points in time and space.The observed heterogeneity in travelers,daily activity decisions towards risk can be modeled as an outcome of heterogeneity in personal traits on the one hand;they can be modeled as the outcome of the differences in travel situations on the other.This paper develops a decision model that focuses on situational heterogeneous behavior pattern.In this model,travelers make their travel decisions using different decision heuristics based on different travel situations they encountered.Three risk attitxude heuristics are employed,namely,risk aversive,risk neutral and risk taking.Uncertain events and decision under uncertainty are represented by a decision tree structure.The model is empirically estimated by using a customized EM algorithm.The results of the model estimation suggest that the individuals show a tendency of adapting their risk attitudes to certain activity situations,and the situation-dependent model is nearly as good as individual model.

Mutated recombinant human glucagon-like peptide-1 induces differentiation of PC12 cells

Glucagon-like peptide-1 （GLP-1） and its long-acting analogues have neuroprotective and neurotrophic properties and are emerging as potential treatments for neurodegenerative diseases. Its short half-life has limited the application of GLP-1 in the clinic. We generated a mutated form of human GLP-1 （mGLP-1） using site-directed mutagenesis and gene recombination techniques, and found that these modifications significantly prolonged the biological half-life of GLP-1 compared with native GLP-1 （nGLP-1）. This study investigated the role of mGLP-1 on inducing PC12 cell differentiation, mGLP-1 induced PC12 cell differentiation with neurite outgrowth and increased the expression of growth-associated protein-43 and neuronal class III I^-tubulin, and significantly increased cyclic adenosine monophosphate level. No significant difference was found between mGLP-1 and nGLP-I. The results indicate that mGLP-1 activates the GLP-1 receptor, induces PC12 cell differentiation, and has neurotrophic effects.
