Protective effect of retaining wall on rock avalanche:A case study of Nayong rock avalanche in China

Rock avalanches are generally difficult to prevent and control due to their high velocities and the extensive destruction they ***,barrier structures constructed along the path of a rock avalanche can partially mitigate the magnitudes and consequences of such catastrophic *** selected a rock avalanche in Nayong County,Guizhou Province,China as a case to study the effect of the location and height of a retaining wall on the dynamic characteristics of rock avalanche by using both actual terrain-based laboratory-model tests and coupled PFC3D-FLAC3D numerical *** findings demonstrate that a retaining wall can largely block a rock avalanche and its protective efficacy is significantly influenced by the integrity of the retaining *** numerical simulation can serve as a powerful tool for analyzing the interaction between a rock avalanche and a retaining wall,facilitating precise observations of its deformation and *** impact-curve characteristics of the retaining wall depend upon whether or not the rock avalanche-induced destruction is taken into *** location of the retaining wall exerts a greater influence on the outcome compared to the height and materials of the retaining wall,while implementing a stepped retaining-wall pattern in accordance with the terrain demonstrates optimal efficacy in controlling rock avalanche.

A convenient and highly efficient strategy was developed for the simplification of enzymatic synthesis and purification of *** acceptors terminated with a thiol tag were extended by enzymatic modular assembly(EMA)in the aqueous phase,and the desired products were captured during solid-phase workup(SPW)using commercially available thiopropyl Sepharose 6B resin through a reversible disulfide ***,the products were released from solid-phase resin in the presence of dithio-threitol(DTT)as reducing agent and the resin could be recovered and *** strategy overcomes the uncertain influence of polymer-or ionic-supports commonly used in enzymatic glycosylation,and showed perfect compatibility with all 10 enzyme modules for the rapid assembly of a series of complex oligosaccharides.

2023年12月18日甘肃省临夏州积石山县发生Ms6.2级地震,引发了大量地质灾害,威胁人民生命与基础设施的安全。地震后,甘肃、青海两省迅速开展地质灾害隐患核查,文章基于这次地震地质灾害调查成果,对积石山地震诱发地质灾害的特征、控制因素、发展趋势进行了分析,提出防灾减灾措施建议。截至12月23日,共核查隐患点2044处,包括78处新增地质灾害隐患、88处地震加剧变形的在库隐患点和1878处无明显变形的在库隐患点。新增和变形加剧的隐患点数量以崩塌居多,占67.5%,滑坡次之,占31.9%;规模等级以小型居多,占84.9%,中型次之,占10.8%;成灾模式多为小型崩塌威胁房屋和道路。同震地质灾害密集分布于发震断层附近,发育密度随地震烈度增强而增大。国家地质安全监测台网震中50 km范围内206组加速度计数据显示,震区峰值加速度为30.4~1969.7 mg,并随与震中距离的增大呈对数衰减。此外,地表变形监测设备也记录了典型滑坡的同震位移曲线。分析认为,积石山地震地质灾害后效应与链式致灾效应将增强,建议尽快更新震区地质灾害隐患点数据库,有针对性地实施风险防控措施,深入开展综合遥感监测与同震地质灾害机理研究,完善气象预警模型及阈值,有效降低地质灾害风险。

The storage and its stability of space charge in poly(ethylene naphthalene-2,6-dicarboxylate)

Poly(ethylene naphthalene-2,6-dicarboxylate) (PEN) is an aromatic polyester with molecular structure similar to that of poly(ethylene terephthalate)(PET). In this paper, the space charge storage ability and its stability in corona charged PEN were studied by measurement of surface potential decay under different storage conditions including dif- ferent temperatures and relative humidities, and analysis of open circuit thermally stimu- lated discharge (TSD) current spectra and charge TSD curves. The comparison between the charge stability of PEN and PET was carried out. The results point out that the charge stability of PEN is markedly better than that of PET under different environmental condi- tions. By means of isothermal depolarization program, the space charge lifetimes (effec- tive time constant) τ at room temperature of positively and negatively charged PEN are estimated to be 90 y. The results offer theoretical and technical support for the use of PEN as the chip of high quality electret condenser microphone due to its excellent dielectric, mechanical and thermal properties.

How variable progenitor clones construct a largely invariant neocortex

The neocortex contains a vast collection of diverse neurons organized into distinct layers. While nearly all neocortical neurons are generated by radial glial progenitors(RGPs), it remains largely unclear how a complex yet organized neocortex is constructed reliably and robustly. Here, we show that the division behavior and neuronal output of RGPs are highly constrained with patterned variabilities to support the reliable and robust construction of the mouse neocortex. The neurogenic process of RGPs can be well-approximated by a consistent Poisson-like process unfolding over time, producing deep to superficial layer neurons progressively. The exact neuronal outputs regarding layer occupation are variable; yet, this variability is constrained systematically to support all layer formation, largely reflecting the variable intermediate progenitor generation and RGP neurogenic entry and exit timing differences. Together, these results define the fundamental features of neocortical neurogenesis with a balanced reliability and variability for the construction of the complex neocortex.

Fine mapping and characterization of a major QTL for grain length,***-2D.1,that has pleiotropic effects in synthetic allohexaploid wheat

Grain size is one of the determinants of grain yield,and identifying the genetic loci that control grain size will be helpful for increasing grain *** our previous study,a quantitative trait locus(QTL)for grain length(GL),***-2D.1,was identified from an F2 population developed from the cross between the natural(TAA10)and synthetic(XX329)allohexaploid *** the present study,we mainly fine mapped and validated its genetic *** this end,multiple near-isogenic lines(NILs)were obtained through marker-assisted selection with TAA10 as the recurrent *** secondary populations derived from 25 heterozygous recombinants were used for fine mapping of ***-2D.1,and the allele from XX329 significantly increased GL,thousand-grain weight(TGW),total spikelet number per spike(TSN)and spike compactness(SC).Using NILs for XX329(2D+)and TAA10(2D−),we determined the genetic and pleiotropic effects of *** target sequences were aligned with the wheat reference genome RefSeq v2.1 and spanned an~0.9 Mb genomic ***2D03G0114900(ortholog of Os03g0594700)was predicted as the candidate gene based on whole-genome re-sequencing and expression *** summary,the map-based cloning of ***-2D.1 will be useful for improving grain weight with enhanced GL and TSN.
