Fresh human amniotic membrane effectively promotes the repair of injured common peroneal nerve

Suture and autologous nerve transplantation are the primary therapeutic measures for completely severed nerves. However, imbalances in the microenvironment and adhesion of surrounding tissues can affect the quality of nerve regeneration and repair. Previous studies have shown that human amniotic membrane can promote the healing of a variety of tissues. In this study, the right common peroneal nerve underwent a 5-mm transection in rats. Epineural nerve repair was performed using 10/0 non-absorbable surgical suture. The repair site was wrapped with a two-layer amniotic membrane with α-cyanoacrylate rapid medical adhesive after suture. Hindlimb motor function was assessed using footprint analysis. Conduction velocity of the common peroneal nerve was calculated by neural electrical stimulation. The retrograde axoplasmic transport of the common peroneal nerve was observed using fast blue BB salt retrograde fluorescent staining. Hematoxylin- eosin staining was used to detect the pathological changes of the common peroneal nerve sputum. The mRNA expression of axon regeneration-related neurotrophic factors and inhibitors was measured using real-time polymerase chain reaction. The results showed that the amniotic membrane significantly improved the function of the injured nerve;the toe spread function rapidly recovered, the nerve conduction velocity was restored, and the number of fast blue BB salt particles were increased in the spinal cord. The amniotic membrane also increased the recovery rate of the tibialis anterior muscle and improved the tissue structure of the muscle. Meanwhile, mRNA expression of nerve growth factor, growth associated protein-43, collapsin response mediator protein-2, and brain-derived neurotrophic factor recovered to near-normal levels, while Lingo-1 mRNA expression decreased significantly in spinal cord tissues. mRNA expression of glial-derived neurotrophic factor did not change significantly. Janus metasurface holography with asymmetric transmission characteristics provides new degrees of freedom for multiplexing technologies.However,earlier metasurfaces with asymmetrical transmission faced limitations in terms of tunability and multifunctionality.In this study,we propose a metasurface color holographic encryption scheme with dynamic switching and asymmetric transmission at visible frequencies using a low-loss nonvolatile optical phase-change material,Sb_(2)S_(3).Using a modified holographic optimization strategy,we achieved highfidelity asymmetric holographic imaging of a nanostructured metasurface.By controlling the incident direction and wavelength of visible light,as well as the level of crystallization of Sb_(2)S_(3),this reconfigurable metasurface enables the precise manipulation of tunable color holographic image displays.In particular,in the semi-crystalline state of Sb_(2)S_(3),the encoded information can be securely encrypted using a two-channel color-holographic image,whereas only a preset camouflaged image is displayed in the crystalline or amorphous state of Sb_(2)S_(3).The proposed multiencrypted Janus metasurface provides a potential approach for dynamic holographic displays with ultrahigh capacity,holographic encryption,and information storage.

Numerical simulation of transient characteristics in a bulb turbine during the load rejection process

To evaluate the safety of the bulb tubular turbine,the dynamic hydraulic characteristics of a hydropower station system during the load rejection process are studied through numerical simulations and a prototype test.In the developed model,a dynamic grid technology(DGT)controls the closure of the guide vane and the blade,whilst the moment balance equation and the user-defined function(UDF)provide the runner’s rotation speed.The 3-D transient simulation method can well predict the rotation speed and mass flow curves in the state of load rejection.The simulation outcomes of the system performance are basically consistent with the measurement data of the prototype.As observed,the runner is subjected to the reversely increased torque and axial force,the system is in a braking phase,and the maximum speed peaks at 144.6%of the rated speed.Moreover,the internal flow of the runner is greatly affected by the closure of the guide vane,and the draft tube forms an eccentric spiral vortex rope.It breaks downstream,aggravating the instability of the draft tube.Overall,the transient characteristics span for the first five seconds,demonstrating the importance of establishing an efficient governing controller.The obtained results are useful for designing the turbine’s flow channel with a double regulating function and comprehending the turbine’s transient characteristics.

Methane is one of the major greenhouse gases(GHGs)and agriculture is recognized as its primary emitter.Methane accounting is a prerequisite for developing effective agriculture mitigation strategies.In this review,methane accounting methods and research status for various agricultural emission source including rice fields,animal enteric fermentation and livestock and poultry manure management were overview,and the influencing factors of each emission source were analyzed and discussed.At the same time,it analyzes the different research efforts involving agricultural methane accounting and makes recommendations based on the actual situation.Finally,mitigation strategies based on accounting results and actual situation are proposed.This review aims to provide basic data and reference for agriculture-oriented countries and regions to actively participate in climate action and carry out effective methane emission mitigation.

Effect of wall-disruption on nutrient composition and in vitro digestion of camellia and lotus bee pollens

The nutrient digestion,absorption and biological activity of bee pollen may be limited due to the complex pollen wall.Here,the effect of superfine grinding technology on the release of nutrients from bee pollen were investigated,and their antioxidant activities and in vitro digestion were explored in this study.Results showed that the content of nutrients in bee pollen increased after wall disruption.Among them,fat content increased by 22.55%-8.31%,protein content increased by 0.54%-4.91%,starch content increased by 36.31%-48.64%,soluble sugar content increased by 20.57%-29.67%,total phenolic acid content increased by 11.73%-86.98%and total flavonoids content increased by 14.29%-24.79%.At the same time,the antioxidant activity increased by 14.84%-46.00%.Furthermore,the active components such as phenolic compounds in the wall-disruption bee pollen were more readily to be released during the in vitro digestion,and easier to be absorbed because of their higher bioaccessibility.Antioxidant activities during in vitro digestion were also improved in walldisruption bee pollen.These findings provide evidence that bee pollen wall disruption was suggested,thus,it is more conducive to exerting the value of bee pollen in functional foods.

Unbalanced private set intersection with linear communication complexity

The private set intersection(PSI) protocol allows two parties holding a set of integers to compute the intersection of their sets without revealing any additional information to each other. The unbalanced PSI schemes consider a specific setting where a client holds a small set of the size n and a server holds a much larger set of the size m(n ■ m). The communication overhead of state-of-the-art balanced PSI schemes is O(m + n) and the unbalanced PSI schemes are O(nlogm). In this paper, we propose a novel secure unbalanced PSI protocol based on a hash proof system. The communication complexity of our protocol grows only linearly with the size of the small set. In other words, our protocol achieves communication overhead of O(n). We test the performance on a personal computer(PC) machine with a local area network(LAN)setting for the network. The experimental results demonstrate that the client only takes 2.01 s of online computation, 4.27 MB of round trip communication to intersect 1600 pieces of 32-bit integers with 220pieces of 32-bit integers with the security parameter λ = 512. Our protocol is efficient and can be applied to resource-constrained devices, such as cell phones.

The inadequate quantity of hydrogen peroxide(H_(2)O_(2))in cancer cells promptly results in the constrained success of chemodynamic therapy(CDT).Significant efforts made throughout the years;nevertheless,researchers are still facing the great challenge of designing a CDT agent and securing H_(2)O_(2) supply within the tumor cell.In this study,taking advantage of H_(2)O_(2) level maintenance mechanism in cancer cells,a nanozyme-based bimetallic metal-organic frameworks(MOFs)tandem reactor is fabricated to elevate intracellular H_(2)O_(2) levels,thereby enhancing CDT.In addition,under nearinfrared excitation,the upconversion nanoparticles(UCNPs)loaded into the MOFs can perform photocatalysis and generate hydrogen,which increases cellular susceptibility to radicals induced from H_(2)O_(2),inhibits cancer cell energy,causes DNA damages and induces tumor cell apoptosis,thus improving CDT therapeutic efficacy synergistically.The proposed nanozyme-based bimetallic MOFs-mediated CDT and UCNPs-mediated hydrogen therapy act as combined therapy with high efficacy and low toxicity.

Assessment of the Characteristics of Demersal Fish Communities Using Species-and Trait-Based Approaches in the Coastal Habitats Along Rongcheng Bay,Shandong Peninsula,China

Biodiversity declines have motivated many studies on the relationship between species diversity and ecosystem functioning.In this study,we described the spatial-temporal characteristics of demersal fish communities along a coastal habitat in Rongcheng Bay,Shandong Peninsula,China with both species-based and biological trait-based approaches.The field survey was carried out monthly using traps from April to October of 2018,and divided into three seasons(spring:April and May;summer:June,July and August;autumn:September,October and November).The study area included five distinct habitats:seagrass bed,natural rocky reef,bare sand,artificial reef together with natural rocky reef,and artificial reef together with bare sand.We analyzed the fish communities with three taxonomic diversity indices,including Shannon-Wiener,Simpson,and Pielou Evenness,as well as four functional diversity indices,including FRic,FEve,FDiv,and FDis,based on 7 functional groups which are categorized into 27 traits.The results showed that there were no significant differences in taxonomic diversity indices among different habitats in the three seasons.However,significant differences were found in the functional richness of fish communities among different habitats in three seasons.Seagrass bed represented the highest functional richness in spring and autumn.This study demonstrates that seagrass bed is very important in enhancing the functional diversity of fish communities in a complex habitat.The study also indicates that the combination of taxonomic diversity and functional diversity will provide a more detailed description of the characteristics of fish communities.

What is already known about this topic?Mushroom poisoning poses a significant food safety concern in China,with a total of 196 species identified in poisoning incidents by the end of 2022.What is added by this report?In 2023,the China CDC conducted an investigation into 505 cases of mushroom poisoning spanning 24 provincial-level administrative divisions.This investigation resulted in 1,303 patients and 16 deaths,yielding a case fatality rate of 1.23%.A total of 97 mushrooms were identified as the cause of 6 distinct clinical disease types,with 12 species newly documented as poisonous mushrooms in China.What are the implications for public health practice?Close collaboration among CDC staff,physicians,and mycologists remains crucial for the control and prevention of mushroom poisoning in the future.

＜正＞Nonnegative Matrix Factorization（NMF） is one of the famous unsupervised learning models.In this paper,we give a short survey on NMF-related models,including K-means,Probabilistic Latent Semantic Indexing etc.and present a new Posterior Probabilistic Clustering model, and compare their numerical experimental results on five real microarray data.The results show that i) NMF using with K-L divergence objective function has better clustering performance;ii) Our purposed PPC model is among the best.
