Hybrid spiking neural network for sleep electroencephalogram signals

Sleep staging is important for assessing sleep quality. So far, many scholars have tried to achieve automatic sleep staging by using neural networks. However, most researchers only perform sleep staging based on artificial neural networks and their variant models, which can not fully mine and model the bio-electrical signals. In this paper, we propose a new hybrid spiking neural network(HSNN) model for automatic sleep staging. Specifically, we use a spiking neural network to classify sleep EEG signals. In addition, we adopt a hybrid macro/micro back propagation algorithm, aiming to overcome the limitations of existing error back propagation methods for spiking neural network. In order to verify the effectiveness of HSNN, we evaluate it on the public sleep dataset ISRUC-SLEEP(Institute of Systems and Robotics, University of Coimbra-Sleep).The results show that the proposed method achieves satisfactory performance on ISRUC-SLEEP.

All-vertical-piled wharf is a kind of high-piled wharf, but it is extremely different from the traditional ones in some aspects, such as the structural property, bearing characteristics, failure mechanism, and static or dynamic calculation methods. In this paper, the finite element method （FEM） and theoretical analysis method are combined to analyze the structural property, bearing behavior and failure mode of the all-vertical-piled wharf in offshore deep water, and to establish simplified calculation methods determining the horizontal static ultimate bearing capacity and the dynamic response for the all-vertical-piled wharf. Firstly, the bearing capability and failure mechanism for all-vertical-piled wharf are studied by use of FEM, and the failure criterion is put forward for all-vertical-piled wharf based on the ＇plastic hinge＇. According to the failure criterion and P-Y curve method, the simplified calculation method of the horizontal static ultimate bearing capacity for all-vertical-piled wharf is proposed, and it is verified that the simplified method is reasonable by comparison with the FEM. Secondly, the displacement dynamic magnification factor for the all-vertical-piled wharf under wave cyclic loads and ship impact loads is calculated by the FEM and the theory formula based on the single degree of freedom （SDOF） system. The results obtained by the two methods are in good agreement with each other, and the simplified calculation method of the displacement dynamic magnification factor for all-vertical-piled wharf under dynamic loads is proposed. Then the simplified calculation method determining the dynamic response for the all-vertical-piled wharf is proposed in combination with P-Y curve method. That is, the dynamic response of the structure can be obtained through the static calculation results of P-Y curve method multiplied by the displacement dynamic magnification factor. The pathogenesis of doxorubicin-induced cardiomyopathy remains unclear. This study was carried out to test our hypothesis that ADAM17 aggravates cardiomyocyte apoptosis induced by doxorubicin and inhibition of ADAM17 may ameliorate doxorubicin-induced cardiomyopathy. C57BL/6J mice were intraperitoneally injected with a cumulative dose of doxorubicin to induce cardiomyopathy. Cardiomyocyte-specific ADAM17-knockout (A17 alpha-MHCKO) and ADAM17-overexpressing (AAV9-oeA17) mice were generated. In addition, RNA sequencing of the heart tissues in different mouse groups and in vitro experiments in neonatal rat cardiomyocytes (NRCMs) receiving different treatment were performed. Mouse tumor models were constructed in A17fl/fl and A17 alpha-MHCKO mice. In addition, cardiomyocyte-specific TRAF3-knockdown and TRAF3-overexpressing mice were generated. ADAM17 expression and activity were markedly upregulated in doxorubicin-treated mouse hearts and NRCMs. A17 alpha-MHCKO mice showed less cardiomyocyte apoptosis induced by doxorubicin than A17fl/fl mice, and cardiomyocyte ADAM17 deficiency did not affect the anti-tumor effect of doxorubicin. In contrast, AAV9-oeA17 mice exhibited markedly aggravated cardiomyocyte apoptosis relative to AAV9-oeNC mice after doxorubicin treatment. Mechanistically, doxorubicin enhanced the expression of transcription factor C/EBP beta, leading to increased expression and activity of ADAM17 in cardiomyocyte, which enhanced TNF-alpha shedding and upregulated the expression of TRAF3. Increased TRAF3 promoted TAK1 autophosphorylation, resulting in activated MAPKs pathway and cardiomyocyte apoptosis. ADAM17 acted as a positive regulator of cardiomyocyte apoptosis and cardiac remodeling and dysfunction induced by doxorubicin by upregulating TRAF3/TAK1/MAPKs signaling. Thus, targeting ADAM17/TRAF3/TAK1/MAPKs signaling holds a promising potential for treating doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity.
