Application of cervical arthroplasty with Bryan cervical disc： long-term X-ray and magnetic resonance imaging follow-up results

Background Cervical disc arthroplasty is a new technique for treating degenerative cervical disease. Its goal is to avoid the degeneration of adjacent levels by preserving motion at the treated level. The aims of this study were to evaluate the radiologic outcomes of Bryan cervical disc replacement and the degenerative status of adjacent *** Twenty-two patients at a single center underwent discectomy and implantation of Bryan cervical disc. The mean follow-up period was 60 months （57-69 months）. Twenty patients underwent single-level arthroplasty and two underwent arthroplasty at two levels. The levels of surgery included C3/4 （3 levels）, C4/5 （2 levels）, C5/6 （18 levels） and C6/7 （1 level）. Radiographic evaluation included dynamic X-ray examination and magnetic resonance imaging （MRI） at baseline and at final *** On X-ray examination, the range of motion （ROM） at the operated level was 7.2° （2.5°-13.0°） at baseline and 7.8° （1.0°-15.0°） at final follow-up （P 〉0.05）. Heterotopic ossification around the prosthesis was observed in eight levels,and two levels showed loss of motion （ROM 〈2°）. MRI showed worsening by a grade at the upper level in 2/22 patients,and worsening by a grade at the lower level in 3/22, according to Miyazaki＇s classification. No further impingement of the ligamentum flavum into the spinal canal was observed at adjacent levels, though the disc bulge was slightly increased at both the adjacent upper and lower levels at final *** Arthroplasty using Bryan cervical disc prosthesis resulted in favorable radiologic outcomes in this *** degeneration at adjacent levels may be postponed by this technique.

Precipitation observations collected at weather stations in eastern China, the NCEP/NCAR reanalysis data, the tropical cyclone(TC) Best Track Dataset, and a sensitivity numerical experiment were used in the present study to investigate the role in the East Asian summer monsoon(EASM) system played by frequent TC activities over the western North Pacific(WNP). Results indicated that, in active TC years, the EASM is stronger and the southerly winds in the lower troposphere advance farther north and reach higher ***, the monsoon rain belt remains in the lower and middle reaches of the Yangtze River valley for a relatively short period,leading to less precipitation there. Both the western Pacific subtropical high and the South Asian high weaken with the northward shift of the ridgelines for both high-pressure systems as well as the East Asian subtropical upper-level jet. Therefore, the impacts of frequent TC activities over the WNP on each individual component of the EASM are in phase with those of the stronger EASM itself, amplifying features of the already strengthened EASM.

Background Icafiine is a flavonoid isolated from a traditional Chinese medicine Epimedium pubescens and is the main active compound of it. Recently, Epimedium pubescens was found to have a therapeutic effect on osteoporosis. But the mechanism is unclear. The aim of the study was to research the effect of Icariine on the proliferation and differentiation of human osteoblasts. Methods Human osteoblasts were obtained by inducing human marrow mesenchymal stem cells （hMSCs） directionally and were cultured in the presence of vadous concentrations of Icariine. 3-（4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl）-2,5- diphenyltetrazolium bromide （MTT） test was used to observe the effect of Icariine on cell proliferation. The activity of alkaline phosphatase （ALP） and the amount of calcified nodules were assayed to observe the effect on cell differentiation. The expression of bone morphogenetic protein 2 （BMP-2） mRNA was detected by reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction （RT-PCR）. Results Icadine （20 μg/ml） increased significantly the proliferation of human osteoblasts. And, IcarUne （10 μg/ml and 20 μg/ml） increased the activity of ALP and the amount of calcified nodules of human osteoblasts significantly （P〈0.05）. BMP-2 mRNA synthesis was elevated significantly in response to Icariine （20 μg/ml）. Conclusions Icadine has a direct stimulatory effect on the proliferation and differentiation of cultured human osteoblast cells in vitro, which may be mediated by increasing production of BMP-2 in osteoblasts.

Ocean waves alter the roughness of sea surface,and sea spray droplets redistribute the momentum flux at the air-sea ***,both wave state and sea spray influence sea surface drag *** on the new sea spray generation function which depends on sea surface wave,a wave-dependent sea spray stress is *** to the relationship between sea spray stress and the total wind stress on the sea surface,a new formula of drag coefficient at high wind speed is *** the analysis of the new drag coefficient,it is shown that the drag coefficient reduces at high wind speed,indicating that the sea spray droplets can limit the increase of drag ***,the value of high wind speed corresponding to the initial reduced drag coefficient is not fixed,and it depends on the wave state,which means the influence of wave cannot be *** between the theoretical and measured sea surface drag coefficients in field and laboratory show that under different wave ages,the theoretical result of drag coefficient could include the measured data,and it means that the new drag coefficient can be used properly from low to high wind speeds under any wave state condition.

The NbO electrode materials were successfully synthesized by high-temperature solid-phase method using Nb powders and Nb2O5 powders as raw materials. The crystalline structure, morphology, and electrochemical properties of the obtained materials were characterized by X-ray diffi＇action （XRD）, scanning electron microscopy （SEM）, dynamic light scattering instrument （DLSA）, half- cell charge-discharge tests, and cyclic voltammetry （CV）. The reaction mechanism of lithium with NbO was inves- tigated by ex-situ XRD studies. The results show that material average Li storage voltage is nearly located at 1.6 V, and the lithium intercalation into NbO remains a single-phase process. For the first discharge, a capacity of 355 mAh·g^-1 is obtained at a current rate of 0.1C, and 293 mAh·g^-1is maintained after 50 cycles, whereas a capacity of 416 mAh·g^-1 is obtained at a current rate of 0.1C alter ball milling. And 380 mAh·g^-1 reversible capacity remains for the ball milling sample.

With dimethomorph and flumorph as the leading compounds, four novel acrylamide compounds with two types of structure were designed and synthesized by means of the method of ＂me too chemistry＂. The target compounds were characterized by 1H NMR, IR, MS, and elemental analysis. The influences of solvent and raw material on the yield were investigated and optimum processing conditions were determined. The results of preliminary biological tests show that all those compounds exhibit certain antifungal activities.

人脐带间充质干细胞在再生医学中应用广泛,但较少有研究关注间充质干细胞制剂生产中的稳定性。本研究通过对生产过程中细胞原液、半成品稳定性研究及制剂复苏稳定性研究,为生产过程提供依据,为制剂复苏使用方法提供参考。采用3批次细胞制剂,取生产过程中细胞原液、半成品分别静置在低温(2~8℃)及室温(20~26℃)条件下储存,细胞原液储存时间间隔为0、2、4、6 h,半成品储存时间间隔为0、1、2、3 h,考察项目包括外观检查、活细胞浓度、细胞活率、细胞表面标记、淋巴细胞增殖抑制率及无菌检查。此外,取细胞制剂复苏后分别进行稀释和培养稳定性探索,复苏稀释液分别为0.9%氯化钠注射液、0.9%氯化钠注射液+1%人血白蛋白、0.9%氯化钠注射液+2%人血白蛋白,稀释倍数包括10倍及40倍,稀释后静置时间间隔为0、1、2、3、4 h。复苏培养液分别为DMEM培养基、DMEM+2%血小板裂解物、0.9%氯化钠注射液、0.9%氯化钠注射液+1%人血白蛋白,培养时间为24 h。考察项目为活细胞浓度及细胞活率。实验结果表明,细胞原液在低温(2~8℃)及室温(20~26℃)条件下静置6 h内均维持稳定,细胞半成品在同样条件下静置3 h内维持稳定。制剂复苏后,使用含1%或2%人血白蛋白的氯化钠注射液稀释,在4 h内细胞活率维持在80%以上。不同稀释倍数对细胞活性存在影响。制剂复苏后,使用含2%血小板裂解物的完全培养基培养24 h后,细胞活率达到80%以上。综上表明,细胞原液在6 h内、细胞半成品在3 h内稳定性均满足要求,细胞制剂复苏后稀释液中添加1%或2%人血白蛋白更好保护细胞活性。

Detection and Analysis of High Temperature Sensitivity of TGMS Lines in Rice Using AMMI Model

With the AMMI (additive main effects and multiplicative interaction) analysis model, thedetermination of the sensitivity to temperature among different TGMS (thermo-sensitivegenic male sterile) lines was performed. To assess the genetic differences due to hightemperature stress at the fertility-sensitive stage (10-20d before heading), sevengenotypes (six TGMS lines and the control Pei-Ai64S) were grown from May 4 at sevendifferent stages with 10d intervals. The temperatures at the fertility-sensitive stagesinvolved twelve levels from℃ under the regime natural conditions in Hangzhou,China. There was considerable variation in pollen fertility among genotypes in responseto high temperature. Five genotypes identified as TGMS lines as their percentages offertile pollens were lower than or close to that of the control except for the unstableline RTS19 (V6). When the temperatures at the fertility-sensitive stage were at Ⅰ-Ⅳ,Ⅴ-Ⅵ and Ⅶ-Ⅻ, the percentages of fertile pollens varied in the ranges of 46.46-48.49%,19.62-22.79% and 3.49-5.87%, respectively. The critical temperatures of sterility andfertility in the five TGMS lines were 25.1 and 23.0℃, respectively. Considering theamounts and directions of main effect and their IPCA (interaction principal componentsanalysis), we can classify the lines and temperature levels into different groups, anddescribe the characteristics of genotypetemperature interaction, offering the informationand tools for the development and utility of thermo-sensitive male sterile *** TGMS rice lines with their reproductive sensitivity to high temperature that canbe screened using the AMMI model may add valuable germplasm to the breeding program ofhybrid rice.
