Future Changes in the Impact of North Pacific Midlatitude Oceanic Frontal Intensity on the Wintertime Storm Track in CMIP5 Models

The storm track and oceanic front play an important role in the midlatitude air–sea *** this study,future changes in the impact of the North Pacific midlatitude oceanic frontal intensity on the wintertime storm track are projected based on climate model outputs from the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 5(CMIP5).The performance of 13 CMIP5 models is evaluated,and it is found that a majority of these models are capable of reproducing the northward intensification of the storm track in response to the strengthened oceanic *** ensemble means of outputs from six best models under three Representative Concentration Pathway(RCP)scenarios(RCP2.6,RCP4.5,and RCP8.5)are compared with the results of the historical simulation,and future changes are *** is found that the impact of the oceanic frontal intensity on the storm track tends to get stronger and extends further westward in a warming climate,and the largest increase appears in the RCP8.5 *** analysis reveals that the stronger impact of the oceanic front on the storm track in the future may be partially attributed to the greater oceanic frontal impact on the near-surface baroclinicity,which is mainly related to the intensified oceanic frontal impact on the meridional potential temperature gradient under the climate change ***,this process can hardly explain the increasing impact of the oceanic front on the upstream of the storm track.

Two crosslinkable poly（p-phenyleneethynylene）s（PPEs）： poly[2,5-di（2＇-ethyl-hexyloxy）-1,4-phenylenecthynylene] with end-capped vinyl（PPE1） and poly[2,5-di（allyloxy）-1,4-phenyleneethynylene-2,5-di（2＇-ethyl-hexyloxy）-1,4-phenyleneethynylene]（PPE2） were synthesized. Via the thermal addition reactions of vinyl end groups of PPE1 and allyloxy side groups of PPE2, crosslinked polymers C-PPE1 and C-PPE2 were obtained, respectively. The two polymers were characterized by wide-angle X-ray diffraction（WXRD）, ultraviolet-visible（UV-Vis） absorption, and photoluminescence（PL）. The results indicate that in the solid state, the polymer chains of PPE1 were packed with a low degree of crystallinity because of the sterically hindered（2＇-ethyl-hexyl）oxy branched side chains, but, because of the introduction of allyloxy side chains, the polymer chains of PPE2 were packed in an order fashion with a high degree of crystallinity. Because of the high crosslinking density in C-PPE2, the formation of aggregates and excimer was hampered by the formed crosslinking network more effectively in C-PPE2 film than in C-PPE1 film.

The high-current pulsed electron beam(HCPEB) treatment with current density 6 J/cm^2 was applied on AZ91 Mg alloy to improve its corrosion resistance. Results showed that the net-like Mg_(17)Al_(12) disappeared on the surface of AZ91 Mg alloy after irradiation by HCPEB, which was instead of supersaturated Al element on the surface. Nevertheless, the application of HCPEB also led to the formation of crater-like and groove-like structures as well as micro-cracks on the surface of AZ91 Mg alloy. After HCPEB treatment by 3, 5 and 10 pulses, the AZ91 Mg alloy exhibited better corrosion ***, the increasing amount of micro-cracks reduced the anti-corrosive properties of AZ91 Mg alloy as the pulse increased to 20 and 30.

Chromospheric activity in several single late-type stars

New high-resolution echelle spectra of six single late-type Pleiades-like stars （V368 Cep, EP Eri, DX Leo, GJ 211, PW And and V383 Lac） were obtained with the 2.16 meter telescope at Xinglong Station in 2008-2010. Using the spectral subtraction technique, we analyzed our spectroscopic data and calculated the equiva- lent widths of excess emission from several indicators of chromospheric activity （Na I D1, D2, Hoz and Ca II infrared triplet lines）. All our results using chromospheric activ- ity indicators confirmed the previous findings. In addition, the maximum amplitudes of chromospheric rotational modulation and the ratio of EW8542/EW8498 were found to rise with increasing v sin i velocity.

采用热处理模拟手段,设定加热温度、保温时间和冷却方式,研究汽车结构钢DP780钢经火灾受热后的组织演变和力学性能变化。结果表明:在200~700℃加热条件下,DP780钢的显微组织均为铁素体和马氏体,但温度升高后,铁素体晶粒长大,马氏体发生再结晶;无论空冷还是水冷,随加热温度的升高,DP780钢的屈服强度和抗拉强度先略有提高后快速下降,伸长率略低于原始母材。在800~1000℃加热条件下,空冷和水冷对DP780钢的组织和性能产生明显影响。800℃加热时,空冷和水冷组织均由原始铁素体、再生铁素体和马氏体构成,但后者马氏体体积分数显著增加,强度远高于前者;900~1000℃加热时,奥氏体晶粒长大,形成粗大的贝氏体和马氏体组织,强度高但塑性低。DP780钢的高温(200~700℃)力学性能与室温力学性能相比,当拉伸温度低于400℃时,强度提高,伸长率降低,高于400℃时强度急剧下降,伸长率升高。结果证实,只要DP780钢在200~1000℃受热,其综合力学性能均会发生下降,这将对采用DP780钢制结构件的事故车辆的继续服役产生一定的安全隐患。

China has begun Antarctic scientific research expeditions since 1984. The 30^th Chinese Antarctic expedition summer team boarded the Xuelong vessel at Shanghai, China on November 7, 2013. This expedition team spent more than three months in Antarctica until the offloading of supplies and scientific activities were completed. Effective medical care plays an important role in ensuring scientific research expedition teams to complete their missions. However, medical care of Antarctic expeditions is complex because the characteristics of medical conditions in Antarctic expeditions are largely unknownYi The present study describes the characteristics of medical conditions encountered in the 30^th Chinese Antarctic summer scientific research expedition. Given this study results, a better and more effective medical care may be provided in future Antarctic scientific research expeditions.

Sensitivity Experiments on the Poleward Shift of Tropical Cyclones over the Western North Pacific under Warming Ocean Conditions

Recent studies found that in the context of global warming, the observed tropical cyclones （TCs） exhibit signific-ant poleward migration trend in terms of the mean latitude where TCs reach their lifetime-maximum intensity in the western North Pacific （WNP）. This poleward migration of TC tracks can be attributed to not only anthropogenic for-cing （e.g., continuous increase of sea surface temperature （SST））, but also impacts of other factors （e.g., natural vari- ability）. In the present study, to eliminate the impacts of other factors and thus focus on the impact of unvaried SST on climatological WNP TC tracks, the mesoscale Weather Research and Forecasting （WRF） model is used to con- duct a suite of idealized sensitivity experiments with increased SST. Comparisons among the results of these experi- ments show the possible changes in climatological TC track, TC track density, and types of TC track in the context of SST increase. The results demonstrate that under the warmer SST conditions, the climatological mean TC track sys-tematically shifts poleward significantly in the WNP, which is consistent with the previous studies. Meanwhile, the ocean warming also leads to the decreased （increased） destructive potential of TCs in low （middle） latitudes, and thus northward migration of the region where TCs have the largest impact. Further results imply the possibility that under the ocean warming, the percentage of TCs with westward/northwestward tracks decreases/increases distinctly.

Impact of Atmospheric and Oceanic Conditions on the Frequency and Genesis Location of Tropical Cyclones over the Western North Pacific in 2004 and 2010

This study examines the impact of atmospheric and oceanic conditions during May–August of 2004 and 2010 on the frequency and genesis location of tropical cyclones over the western North Pacific. Using the WRF model, four numerical experiments were carried out based on different atmospheric conditions and SST forcing. The numerical experiments indicated that changes in atmospheric and oceanic conditions greatly affect tropical cyclone activity, and the roles of atmospheric conditions are slightly greater than oceanic conditions. Specifically, the total number of tropical cyclones was found to be mostly affected by atmospheric conditions, while the distribution of tropical cyclone genesis locations was mainly related to oceanic conditions, especially the distribution of SST. In 2010, a warmer SST occurred west of 140°E, with a colder SST east of 140°E. On the one hand, the easterly flow was enhanced through the effect of the increase in the zonal SST *** strengthened easterly flow led to an anomalous boundary layer divergence over the region to the east of 140°E, which suppressed the formation of tropical cyclones over this region. On the other hand, the colder SST over the region to the east of 140°E led to a colder low-level air temperature, which resulted in decreased CAPE and static instability energy. The decrease in thermodynamic energy restricted the generation of tropical cyclones over the same region.
