Protective performance of shear stiffening gel-modified foam against ballistic impact:Experimental and numerical study

As one of the most widely used personal protective equipment(PPE),body armors play an important role in protecting the human body from the high-velocity impact of bullets or *** body torso and critical organs of the wear may suffer severe behind-armor blunt trauma(BABT)even though the impactor is stopped by the body armor.A type of novel composite material through incorporating shear stiffening gel(STG)into ethylene-vinyl acetate(EVA)foam is developed and used as buffer layers to reduce *** this paper,the protective performance of body armors composed of fabric bulletproof layers and a buffer layer made of foam material is investigated both experimentally and *** effectiveness of STG-modified EVA in damage relief is verified by ballistic *** parallel with the experimental study,numerical simulations are conducted by LS-DYNA®to investigate the dynamic response of each component and capture the key mechanical parameters,which are hardly obtained from field *** fully describe the material behavior under the transient impact,the selected constitutive models take the failure and strain rate effect into consideration.A good agreement between the experimental observations and numerical results is achieved to prove the validity of the modelling *** tests and simulations show that the impact-induced deformation on the human body is significantly reduced by using STG-modified EVA as the buffering *** improvement of protective performance is attributed to better dynamic properties and more outstanding energy absorption capability of the composite foam.

Slurry casting has been used to fabricate lithium-ion battery electrodes for decades,which involves toxic and expensive organic solvents followed by high-cost vacuum drying and electrode *** work presents a new manufacturing method using a nonthermal plasma to create inter-particle binding without using any polymeric binding materials,enabling solvent-free manufacturing electrodes with any electrochemistry of *** cold-plasma-coating technique enables fabricating electrodes with thickness(>200 pm),high mass loading(>30 mg cm^(-2)),high peel strength,and the ability to print lithium-ion batteries in an arbitrary *** crosscutting,chemistry agnostic,platform technology would increase energy density,eliminate the use of solvents,vacuum drying,and calendering processes during production,and reduce manufacturing cost for current and future cell ***,lithium iron phosphate and lithium cobalt oxide were used as examples to demonstrate the efficacy of the cold-plasma-coating *** is found that the mechanical peel strength of cold-plasma-coating-manufactured lithium iron phosphate is over an order of magnitude higher than that of slurry-casted lithium iron phosphate *** cells assembled with a graphite anode and the cold-plasma-coating-lithium iron phosphate cathode offer highly reversible cycling performance with a capacity retention of 81.6%over 500 *** the highly conductive cathode material lithium cobalt oxide,an areal capacity of 4.2 mAh cm^(-2)at 0.2 C is *** anticipate that this new,highly scalable manufacturing technique will redefine global lithium-ion battery manufacturing providing significantly reduced plant footprints and material costs.

Background:Ischemia-reperfusion injury(IRI)poses a significant challenge to liver transplantation(LT).The underlying mechanism primarily involves overactivation of the immune *** shock protein 110(HSP110)functions as a molecular chaperone that helps stabilize protein ***:An IRI model was established by performing LT on Sprague-Dawley rats,and HSP110 was silenced using ***-eosin staining,TUNEL,immunohistochemistry,ELISA and liver enzyme analysis were performed to assess IRI following *** blotting and quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction were conducted to investigate the pertinent molecular ***:Our findings revealed a significant increase in the expression of HSP110 at both the mRNA and protein levels in the rat liver following LT(P<0.05).However,when rats were injected with siRNAHSP110,IRI subsequent to LT was notably reduced(P<0.05).Additionally,the levels of liver enzymes and inflammatory chemokines in rat serum were significantly reduced(P<0.05).Silencing HSP110 with siRNA resulted in a marked decrease in M1-type polarization of Kupffer cells in the liver and downregulated the NF-κB pathway in the liver(P<0.05).Conclusions:HSP110 in the liver promotes IRI after LT in rats by activating the NF-κB pathway and inducing M1-type polarization of Kupffer *** HSP110 to prevent IRI after LT may represent a promising new approach for the treatment of LT-associated IRI.

The“depict”strategy for discovering new compounds in complex matrices:Lycibarbarspermidines as a case

The comprehensive detection and identification of active ingredients in complex matrices is a crucial *** chromatography coupled with high-resolution mass spectrometry(LC-HRMS)is the most prominent analytical platform for the exploration of novel active compounds from complex ***,the LC-HRMS-based analysis workflow suffers from several bottleneck issues,such as trace content of target compounds,limited acquisition for fragment information,and uncertainty in interpreting relevant MS2 *** are vital antioxidant active ingredients in Lycii Fructus,while the reported structures are merely focused on dicaffeoylspermidines due to their low *** comprehensively detect the new structures of lycibarbarspermidine derivatives,a“depict”strategy was developed in this ***,potential new lycibarbarspermidine derivatives were designed according to the biosynthetic pathway,and a comprehensive database was established,which enlarged the coverage of lycibarbarspermidine ***,the polarity-oriented sample preparation of potential new compounds increased the concentration of the target ***,the construction of the molecular network based on the fragmentation pathway of lycibarbarspermidine derivatives broadened the comprehensiveness of ***,the weak response signals were captured by data-dependent scanning(DDA)followed by parallel reaction monitoring(PRM),and the efficiency of acquiring MS2 fragment ions of target compounds was significantly *** on the integrated strategy above,210 lycibarbarspermidine derivatives were detected and identified from Lycii Fructus,and in particular,170 potential new compounds were structurally *** integrated strategy improved the sensitivity of detection and the coverage of low-response components,and it is expected to be a promising pipeline for discovering new compounds.

Ursolic acid(UA)is a naturally occurring ursane triterpenoid,which exhibits a wide range of unique biological *** clarify its mechanism of action(MOA),a series of fluorescent derivatives of UA(5a-c)were designed and synthesized by conjugation with 7-nitrobenzo-2-oxa-1,3-diazole(NBD)*** them,5c exhibited similar anti-proliferative activity with UA against HCT116 cells(half maximal inhibitory concentration(IC_(50))=9.21±0.50μmol/L).Cell imaging experiment indicated that 5c was rapidly taken up in HCT116 cells in a dose and time-dependent ***,5c was found to localize in endoplasmic reticulum(ER),lysosomes,and mitochondria,but not in nucleus of HCT116 cells by confocal microscopy *** MOA proved that UA induced autophagy with a unique intracellular distribution mechanism involving ER and *** all,our work provides new clues for revealing the molecular mechanism of UA as an antitumor agent.

The Characteristics of Preschool Children’s Collaborative Problem Solving:A Discourse Analysis in Project-Based Learning

Considered a crucial skill in the 21st century,collaborative problem solving(CPS)has been an essential development task for preschool *** study analyzes preschool children’s discourse in the project-based learning(PBL)process and presents the following ***,in the collaborative dimension,the frequency of children’s discourse on establishing and maintaining shared understanding(U)and taking appropriate action to solve the problem(A)is relatively high,while that on establishing and maintaining team organization(O)is relatively ***,in the problem solving dimension,the frequency of children’s discourse on planning and executing(P&E)is the highest,while that on monitoring and reflecting(M&R)is the ***,in terms of turn taking patterns,self-selection accounts for a significantly higher proportion than allocation and ***,preschool children’s CPS is characterized by loose collaboration and multilinear problem *** are usually keener to strive for opportunities to express their views but lack attention to others’*** the same time,they can constantly come up with new problem solving plans and actions but rarely reflect on their feasibility and actual *** addition to children’s collaborative role,teachers’intervention can also impact the CPS ***,teachers are recommended to provide children with opportunities for CPS and strengthen monitoring,guidance,and support in children’s CPS processes to facilitate better child engagement in CPS.

Depletion of anti-CD47mAb in plasma by genetically modified cells for pre-transfusion testing

Allogeneic red blood cell(RBC)transfusion is commonly performed in medical practice because of its efficacy and low-risk ***,pre-transfusion tests are susceptible to monoclonal antibody(mAb)interference.1 Currently,mAb therapies are being developed to treat many diseases,such as ***,certain mAbs,such as anti-CD38mAb and anti-CD47mAb,can bind to RBC membranes;this binding interferes with pre-transfusion tests.2 CD47 has gained considerable attention in recent years because of its potential as a therapeutic target for hematologic malignancies and solid tumors.3 The binding of anti-CD47mAb to RBCs may lead to false-positive results in pan-agglutination tests and cause delays and risks in establishing compatible RBCs for transfusion.

Anthropogenic disturbances are widespread in tropical forests and influence the species composition in the ***,the impacts of historical disturbance on tropical forest overstory recovery are unclear due to a lack of disturbance data,and previous studies have focused on understory *** this study,the purpose was to deter-mine the influence of historical disturbance on the diver-sity,composition and regeneration of overstory species in present *** the 20-ha Xishuangbanna tropical sea-sonal rainforest dynamics plot in southwestern China,the historical disturbance boundaries were delineated based on panchromatic photographs from *** that drove species clustering in the overstory layer(DBH≥40 cm)were analyzed and the abundance,richness and composition of these species were compared among different tree groups based on multiple regression tree *** coefficient of variation of the brightness value in historical panchro-matic photographs from 1965 was the primary driver of spe-cies clustering in the overstory *** abundance and richness of overstory species throughout the regeneration process were similar,but species composition was always *** the proportion of large-seeded and vigorous-sprouting species showed no significant differ-ence between disturbed and undisturbed forests in the tree-let layer(DBH<20 cm),the difference became significant when DBH *** findings highlight that historical disturbances have strong legacy effects on functional group composition in the overstory and the recovery of overstory species was *** group composi-tion can better indicate the dynamics of overstory species replacement during secondary succession.

Ultrathin surface coating of Cu enabling long-life Zn metal anodes

Aqueous zinc-ion batteries(AZIBs)are regarded as promising energy storage devices due to their low cost,high capacity,and ecological ***,the severe dendritic growth and side reactions hinder their practical applicability ***,an ultrathin Cu coating layer(~200 nm)is decorated on zinc foils via filtered cathodic vacuum arc deposition technology,aiming to achieve high-performance *** Cu layer effectively suppresses chemical corrosion and hydrogen evolution reactions and enables preferential(002)Zn deposition during the stripping/plating ***,the Cu@Zn anode represents an elongated cycle life over 4,000 h at 2 mA·cm^(-2)/2 mAh·cm^(-2).Even in conditions of high current density of 5 and 10 mA·cm^(-2),the Cu@Zn anode shows prolonged cycling stability exceeding 4000 and 2000 h,*** advantages also bring high Coulombic efficiency of 99.87%under 5 mAh·cm^(-2)in Cu@Ti||Zn half-cell over 1500 ***,the Cu@Zn||MnO_(2)full cell demonstrates a superior cyclability with a specific capacity of 203 mAh·g^(-1)after 500 cycles a1 A·g^(-1).
