Explosion behavior investigation and safety assessment of large-format lithium-ion pouch cells

Large-format lithium-ion(Li-ion) batteries with high energy density for electric vehicles are prone to thermal runaway(or even explosion) under abusive conditions. In this study, overcharge induced explosion behaviors of large-format Li-ion pouch cells with Li[NiCoMn]Ocathode at different current rates(C-rates)(0.5C, 1C, 2C) were investigated. The explosion characteristics of the cells were elucidated by discussing the evolution of the cell voltage, the surface temperature and the shock wave pressure.Generally, the whole overcharge process could be divided into four stages according to the evolution of several key parameters and the overcharge behaviors;the overcharge C-rate has a great influence on cells’ thermal behaviors. The experimental results showed that the thermal runaway process of Liion cells caused by overcharging consisted of two kinds of explosions, physical explosion and chemical explosion. The existence of observable negative pressure zone in the pressure curves indicated that the Li-ion cells are not a self-supplying oxygen system during the explosion. Further, the explosion dynamics parameters were matched. An explosion TNT-equivalent conversion strategy that depended on the pressure of the shock wave was utilized to evaluate the released energy and its hazards. In addition, with respect to the overcharge of Li-ion pouch cells, a safety assessment method and a safety management method were proposed based on the explosion behaviors. From the perspective of battery safety, this study is of great significance for the safety design of Li-ion cells and can provide guidance for engineers to optimize the safety function of battery packs.

Engineering miniature gold nanorods with tailorable plasmonic wavelength in NIR region via ternary surfactants mediated growth

Plasmonic nanoparticles are endowed profound capability for sensing,biomedicine,and cancer therapy.However,the inaccessibly adjustable wavelength in near infrared(NIR)region window and size limit for the particles penetration in tumor strongly hinder their developments.Miniature gold nanorods(mini-Au NRs)with diameter less than 12 nm can effectively address this challenge due to the tiny size and tailorable NIR absorption.Herein,we adopt ternary surfactants(hexadecyl trimethyl ammonium bromide(CTAB),sodium oleate(NaOL),and sodium salicylate(NaSal))mediated growth strategy to precisely synthesize miniature Au NRs under micelle space-confinement.Importantly,the selectively dense accumulation of ternary surfactants can efficiently improve the micellar stacking parameters(p)and lower micellar free energy(F),further tends to achieve the formation of Au NRs with tiny diameter and high purity.Compared with that of conventional methods,the purity of mini-Au NRs up to 100%can be dramatically improved via varying the relative concentration of ternary surfactants.The diameter of Au NRs can be dynamically controlled to 6,8,and 11 nm through regulating the concentration of silver nitrate and the mole ratio of ternary surfactants.Such ternary surfactants system is favorable for the aging of tiny Au NRs,and further enables the aspect ratio-tunable in the region from 2.70 to 7.32,as well as tailorable plasmonic wavelength in wide NIR window from 700 to 1,147 nm.Therefore,our findings shed a light on the precise preparation of small sized plasmonic nanoparticles and pave the way to applications in biomedicine,imaging,and cancer therapy.

Deep Neural Network-Based Generation of Planar CH Distribution through Flame Chemiluminescence in Premixed Turbulent Flame

Flame front structure is one of the most fundamental characteristics and, hence, vital for understanding combustion processes. Measuring flame front structure in turbulent flames usually needs laser-based diagnostic techniques, mostly planar laser-induced fluorescence (PLIF). The equipment of PLIF, burdened with lasers, is often too sophisticated to be configured in harsh environments. Here, to shed the burden, we propose a deep neural network-based method to generate the structures of flame fronts using line-of-sight CH* chemiluminescence that can be obtained without the use of lasers. A conditional generative adversarial network (CGAN) was trained by simultaneously recording CH-PLIF and chemiluminescence images of turbulent premixed methane/air flames. Two distinct generators of the C-GAN, namely Resnet and U-net, were evaluated. The former net performs better in this study in terms of both generating snap-shot images and statistics over multiple images. For chemiluminescence imaging, the selection of the camera’s gate width produces a trade-off between the signal-to-noise (SNR) ratio and the temporal resolution. The trained C-GAN model can generate CH-PLIF images from the chemiluminescence images with an accuracy of over 91% at a Reynolds number of 5000, and the flame surface density at a higher Reynolds number of 10,000 can also be effectively estimated by the model. This new method has the potential to achieve the flame characteristics without the use of laser and significantly simplify the diagnosing system, also with the potential for high-speed flame diagnostics.

岸桥起升减速箱轴承的健康状况对港口生产安全具有重要意义.针对岸桥变工况的工作条件,提出一种起升减速箱轴承的剩余使用寿命(RUL)预测框架.首先,对工作载荷进行离散化,并确定工况边界.然后,利用长短时记忆(LSTM)网络模型预测载荷和相应的运行工况.其次,以维纳过程为基础,建立了考虑不同工况下退化率和跳变系数的状态退化函数.最后,利用工况激活粒子滤波(CAPF)方法预测轴承退化状态和RUL.采用NetCMAS系统采集的上海某港口起升减速箱轴承全寿命数据验证了所提出的预测框架.与其他3种预测模式比较表明,所提出的框架能够在变工况条件下获得更准确的退化状态和RUL预测.

Acquired resistance is a major problem limiting the clinical efficacy of treatments for metastatic colorectal cancer(mCRC).Histological transformation is an important mechanism underlying the acquired resistance of non-small cell lung cancer and prostate cancer to targeted therapy.However,no report has examined the role of histological transformation in mCRC.Here,we report the first case of histologically transformed large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma from primary colon adenocarcinoma during antiangiogenesis and anti-PD-1 combination therapy.The histologic conversion was confirmed by the observation that the transformed large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma lesion retained the original mutational signature found in the primary tumor.Sequential tumor biopsy and dynamic changes in tumor markers demonstrated the transformed process.The histological transformation not only resulted in discordant responses to the same treatment but also significantly shortened overall survival.This case calls for more attention to histological transformation in mCRC.Tumor rebiopsy upon disease progression and monitoring dynamic changes in tumor markers would help to identify such cases.

LPV modeling and controller design for body freedom flutter suppression subject to actuator saturation

In recent years,the Active Flutter Suppression(AFS)employing Linear ParameterVarying(LPV)framework has become a hot spot in the research field.Nevertheless,the flutter suppression technique is facing two severe challenges.On the one hand,due to the fatal risk of flight test near critical airspeed,it is hard to obtain the accurate mathematical model of the aeroelastic system from the testing data.On the other hand,saturation of the actuator may degrade the closed-loop performance,which was often neglected in the past work.To tackle these two problems,a new active controller design procedure is proposed to suppress flutter in this paper.Firstly,with the aid of LPV model order reduction method and State-space Model Interpolation of Local Estimates(SMILE)technique,a set of high-fidelity Linear Time-Invariant(LTI)models which are usually derived from flight tests at different subcritical airspeeds are reduced and interpolated to construct an LPV model of an aeroelastic system.And then,the unstable aeroelastic dynamics beyond critical airspeed are‘predicted’by extrapolating the resulting LPV model.Secondly,based on the control-oriented LPV model,an AFS controller in LPV framework which is composed of a nominal LPV controller and an LPV anti-windup compensator is designed to suppress the aeroelastic vibration and overcome the performance degradation caused by actuator saturation.Although the nominal LPV controller may have superior performance in linear simulation in which the saturation effect is ignored,the results of the numerical simulations show that the nominal LPV controller fails to suppress the Body Freedom Flutter(BFF)when encountering the actuator saturation.However,the LPV anti-windup compensator not only enhances the nominal controller’s performance but also helps the nominal controller to stabilize the unstable aeroelastic system whenencountering serious actuator saturation.

Polymorph selection in the crystallization of hard-core Yukawa system

Colloid-colloid interactions in charge-stabilized dispersions can to some extent be represented by the hard-core Yukawa model. The crystallization process and polymorph selection of hard-core Yukawa model are studied by means of smart Monte Carlo simulations in the region of face-centered-cubic(fcc) phase. The contact value of hard-core Yukawa potential and the volume fraction of the colloids are fixed, while the Debye screening length can be varied. In the early stage of the crystallization, the precursors with relatively ordered liquid structure have been observed. Although the crystal structure of thermodynamically stable phase is fcc, the system crystallizes into a mixture of fcc and hexagonal close-packed(hcp) structures under small Debye screening length since the colloidal particles act as effective hard spheres. In the intermediate range of Debye screening length, the system crystallizes into a mixture of fcc, hcp, and body-centered-cubic(bcc). The existence of metastable hcp and bcc structures can be interpreted as a manifestation of the Ostwald's step rule. Until the Debye screening length is large enough, the crystal structure obtained is almost a complete fcc suggesting the system eventually reaches to a thermodynamically stable state.

Pancreatic head cancer: Open or minimally invasive pancreaticoduodenectomy?

Pancreatic head cancer still represents an insurmountable barrier for patients and pancreatic surgeons.Pancreaticoduodenectomy(PD)continues to be the operative standard of care and potentially curative procedure for pancreatic head cancer.Despite the rapid development of minimally invasive techniques,whether the efficacy of minimally invasive pancreaticoduodenectomy(MIPD)is noninferior or superior to open pancreaticoduodenectomy(OPD)remains unclear.In this review,we summarized the history of OPD and MIPD and the latest staging and classification information for pancreatic head cancer as well as the proposed recommendations for MIPD indications for patients with pancreatic head cancer.By reviewing the MIPD-vs.OPD-related literature,we found that MIPD shows noninferiority or superiority to OPD in terms of safety,feasibility,enhanced recovery after surgery(ERAS)and several short-term and long-term outcomes.In addition,we analyzed and summarized the different MIPD outcomes in the USA,Europe and China.Certain debates over MIPD have continued,however,selection bias,the large number of low-volume centers,the steep MIPD learning curve,high conversion rate and administration of neoadjuvant therapy may limit the application of MIPD for pancreatic head cancer.

DNA methylation changes induced by BDE-209 are related to DNA damage response and germ cell development in GC-2spd

Decabrominated diphenyl ether(BDE-209)is generally utilized in multiple polymer materials as common brominated flame retardant.BDE-209 has been listed as persistent organic pollutants(POPs),which was considered to be reproductive toxin in the environment.But it still remains unclear about the effects of BDE-209 on DNA methylation and the inducedmale reproductive toxicity.Due to the extensive epigenetic regulation in germ line development,we hypothesize that BDE-209 exposure impacts the statue of DNA methylation in spermatocytes in vitro.Therefore,the mouse GC-2spd(GC-2)cells were used for the genome wide DNA methylation analysis after treated with 32μg/mL BDE-209 for 24 hr.The results showed that BDE-209 caused genomic methylation changes with 32,083 differentially methylated CpGs in GC-2 cells,including 16,164(50.38%)hypermethylated and 15,919(49.62%)hypomethylated sites.With integrated analysis ofDNAmethylation data and functional enrichment,we found that BDE-209 might affect the functional transcription in cell growth and sperm development by differential gene methylation.qRT-PCR validation demonstrated the involvement of p53-dependent DNA damage response in the GC-2 cells after BDE-209 exposure.In general,our findings indicated that BDE-209-induced genome wide methylation changes could be interrelated with reproductive dysfunction.This study might provide new insights into the mechanisms of male reproductive toxicity under the environmental exposure to BDE-209.
