Relationship between multi-scale climate factors and performance of ecological engineering on the Loess Plateau, China

The long-term “Grain-to-Green Program” (GGP) on China’s Loess Plateau is a major global ecological engineering project which has significantly boosted vegetation renewal. Some studies have found that the rate of restoration is quite rapid during the implementation of ecological engineering, however, the influence of multi-scale climatic conditions on the performance of ecological engineering is unclear. In this study, multiple sources of remote sensing data were used to estimate the dynamics of vegetation structural and functional indicators, water-related local climatic factors, and atmospheric circulation factors. These datasets were also used to detect possible causes for vegetation restoration on the Loess Plateau over the past 20 years. The results show that widespread increases in rates of normalized difference vegetation indexes (NDVI), leaf area indexes (LAI), gross primary production (GPP), and aboveground biomass carbon (ABC) during 2000–2016 were significantly higher than before 2000. GPP was significantly correlated with rainfall and surface runoff on a monthly scale, and there were significant positive correlations between GPP and atmospheric circulation. Our results demonstrate that both vegetation structural and functional indicators rapidly increase, and ecological engineering greatly accelerated vegetation restoration after 2000. Local climatic conditions and atmospheric circulation patterns enhance vegetation growth and impact of ecological engineering.

An Internet of Things based scalable framework for disaster data management

In recent years, undesirable disasters attacked the cities frequently, leaving heavy casualties and serious economiclosses. Meanwhile, disaster detection based on the Internet of Things(IoT) has become a hot spot that benefitedfrom the established development of smart city construction. And the IoT is visibly sensitive to the managementand monitoring of disasters, but massive amounts of monitoring data have brought huge challenges to datastorage and data analysis. This article develops a new and much more general framework for disaster emergencymanagement under the IoT environment. The framework is a bottom-up integration of highly scalable Raw DataStorages(RD-Stores) technology, hybrid indexing and queries technology, and machine learning technology foremergency disasters. Experimental results show that hybrid index and query technology have better performanceunder the condition of supporting multi-modal retrieval, and providing a better solution to offer real-time retrievalfor the massive sensor sampling data in the IoT. In addition, further works to evaluate the top-level sub-applicationsystem in this framework were performed based on the GPS trajectory data of 35,000 Beijing taxis and thevolumetric ground truth data of 7,500 images. The results show that the framework has desirable scalability andhigher utility.

Biological threats,whether naturally occurring or accidentally or deliberately released,have the potential to endanger lives and disrupt economies worldwide.Thus,high-containment protective measures should be implemented when handling bio-agents that can cause serious,highly contagious diseases,otherwise devastating pandemics can occur.In the fields of scientific investigation,healthcare,and product development,high-containment facilities play a critical role in preventing,detecting,and responding promptly and effectively to threats to global health security.In this paper,we present a summary of the main types of high-containment facilities,as well as their applications,challenges,and suggestions for the future.

Guided Wave Propagation in Multilayered Two-dimensional Quasicrystal Plates with Imperfect Interfaces

An analytical solution of the guided wave propagation in a multilayered twodimensional decagonal quasicrystal plate with imperfect interfaces is derived.According to the elastodynamic equations of quasicrystals(QCs),the wave propagating problem in the plate is converted into a linear control system by employing the state-vector approach,from which the general solutions of the extended displacements and stresses can be obtained,These solutions along the thickness direction are utilized to derive the propagator matrix which connects the physical variables on the lower and upper interfaces of each layer.The special spring model,which describes the discontinuity of the physical quantities across the interface,is introduced into the propagator relationship of the multilayered structure.The total propagator matrix can be used to propagate the solutions in each interface and each layer about the multilayered plate.In addition,the traction-free boundary condition on the top and bottom surfaces of the laminate is considered to obtain the dispersion equation of wave propagation,Finally,typical numerical examples are presented to illustrate the marked influences of stacking sequence and interface coeficients on the dispersion curves and displacement mode shapes of the QC laminates.

Emergency logistics scheduling with multiple supply-demand points based on grey interval

This study aimed to address the problem of post-disaster emergency material dispatching from multiple supply points to multiple demand points.In large-scale natural disasters,it is very important for multiple emergency material supply points to serve as sources of materials for multiple disaster sites and to determine emergency material scheduling solutions accurately.Furthermore,the quantity of emergency materials required at each disaster site is uncertain.To address this issue,in this study,we developed an emergency material scheduling model with multiple logistics supply points for multiple demand points based on the grey interval numbers.To optimize the proposed multi-supply-point and multi-demand-point emergency material scheduling mode,a multi-objective optimization algorithm based on a genetic algorithm was used.Experimental results demonstrate that the multi-objective optimization method can solve the emergency logistics scheduling problem better than the particle swarm optimization multi-objective solution algorithm.Additionally,the multi-supply point and multi-demand point emergency material dispatch model and optimization algorithm provides robust support for emergency management system decision-makers when they need to respond quickly to disaster relief activities.

Effect of heat flux and inlet temperature on the fouling characteristics of nanoparticles

In order to study the effect of heat flux and inlet temperature on the fouling characteristics of nanoparticles, and to further reveal the fouling mechanism for insights into proper operating conditions, γ-Al_2O_3/water suspensions were chosen as the subject of this research. The particulate fouling characteristics of γ-Al_2O_3/water suspensions on the surface of stainless steel have been experimentally studied by varying the heat flux and the inlet temperature under single-phase flow and subcooled-flow boiling conditions. The results show that in the condition of single-phase flow, the asymptotic value of fouling resistance decreases with increasing of heat flux and inlet temperature. The asymptotic value of fouling resistance under single-phase flow is much higher than for the subcooled-flow boiling condition. The effect of heat flux on the fouling resistance under the two flow states has an inverse relationship, and there exists a minimum value of fouling resistance between these two states. For subcooled-flow boiling, the asymptotic value of fouling resistance increases with increasing heat flux, whereas the effect on fouling resistance by the inlet temperature is negligible.

信息具有分散性、多样性和可变性,也是不均衡分布的。信息不对称理论从主体关系的角度揭示了差异化的信息处境,成为分析社会行动及其策略的工具。不仅经济活动中广泛存在着信息不对称现象,国家治理领域也存在着普遍的信息不对称难题,具体包括国家治理体系外部和内部的信息不对称。国家也经常是信息不对称的弱势方,受到信息短缺或偏差等问题的困扰。国家通过集中化的信息普查和分散化的摸清底数等途径来采集信息,目的都是要系统性地获得有关社会事实的信息,破解国家与社会之间的信息不对称。信息不对称的事实塑造了信息短缺的焦虑、搜索信息的冲动、完备信息的想象以及信息保密的本能等扭曲效应,构成了国家信息化活动的基本底色。推进国家治理现代化必须要正视信息不对称问题及其影响,重构和优化国家治理的信息机制,着力跨越信息不对称的陷阱,最终提升国家治理的准确性、适应性和有效性。

Surrogate-Assisted Particle Swarm Optimization Algorithm With Pareto Active Learning for Expensive Multi-Objective Optimization

For multi-objective optimization problems, particle swarm optimization(PSO) algorithm generally needs a large number of fitness evaluations to obtain the Pareto optimal solutions. However, it will become substantially time-consuming when handling computationally expensive fitness functions. In order to save the computational cost, a surrogate-assisted PSO with Pareto active learning is proposed. In real physical space(the objective functions are computationally expensive), PSO is used as an optimizer, and its optimization results are used to construct the surrogate models. In virtual space, objective functions are replaced by the cheaper surrogate models, PSO is viewed as a sampler to produce the candidate solutions. To enhance the quality of candidate solutions, a hybrid mutation sampling method based on the simulated evolution is proposed, which combines the advantage of fast convergence of PSO and implements mutation to increase diversity. Furthermore, ε-Pareto active learning(ε-PAL)method is employed to pre-select candidate solutions to guide PSO in the real physical space. However, little work has considered the method of determining parameter ε. Therefore, a greedy search method is presented to determine the value ofεwhere the number of active sampling is employed as the evaluation criteria of classification cost. Experimental studies involving application on a number of benchmark test problems and parameter determination for multi-input multi-output least squares support vector machines(MLSSVM) are given, in which the results demonstrate promising performance of the proposed algorithm compared with other representative multi-objective particle swarm optimization(MOPSO) algorithms.

Mosquito-Associated Viruses in China

Mosquitoes are classified into approximately 3500 species and further grouped into 41 genera.Epidemiologically,they are considered to be among the most important disease vectors in the world and they can harbor a wide variety of viruses.Several mosquito viruses are considered to be of significant medical importance and can cause serious public health issues throughout the world.Such viruses are Japanese encephalitis virus(JEV),dengue virus(DENV),chikungunya virus(CHIKV),and Zika virus(ZIKV).Others are the newly recognized mosquito viruses such as Banna virus(BAV)and Yunnan orbivirus(YNOV)with unclear medical significance.The remaining mosquito viruses are those that naturally infect mosquitoes but do not appear to infect humans or other vertebrates.With the continuous development and improvement of mosquito and mosquito-associated virus surveillance systems in China,many novel mosquito-associated viruses have been discovered in recent years.This review aims to systematically outline the history,characteristics,distribution,and/or current epidemic status of mosquito-associated viruses in China.
