Pollution has become an increasing problem during the last several *** magnetism provides a useful method for detecting and monitoring soil and sediment pollution. Thermomagnetic analysis is a conventional approach for identifying magnetic phases or possible thermal alterations in *** properties of samples are often enhanced after thermal treatment of environmentally polluted *** this study,we investigated the possible role of metallic iron for magnetic enhancement due to interaction between iron and haematite at elevated *** results show that synthetic samples containing both haematite and iron show significant magnetic enhancement upon heating in argon due to the neo-formation of ***,magnetite formed during heating in argon is rather stable, whereas that produced upon heating in air is oxidized to haematite at higher temperatures. We found that a small amount of iron can induce significant transformation of haematite into magnetite upon heating in ***,such a mechanism has to be considered for magnetic enhancement when conducting thermomagnetic analyses of environmentally polluted samples.

Zr-in-rutile thermometry was applied to ultra-high -temperature(UHT) granulites from three localities, Dongpo,Tuguishan,and Dajing/Tuguiwula of the Khondalite *** china *** concentrations of analyzed rutiles were detected by LA-ICP-MS and EMP, which display a mutative composition zoning,a large inter-grain variation,a bimodal distribution at around 1,500 and 6,000 ppm,and no relationship with the textural setting (matrix ***).These characteristics were likely caused by post-peak diffusional resetting associated with slow cooling rates and the presence of a CO-rich fluid. The grains with lower Zr concentrations(～500 to～3,000 ppm) and temperature estimates(～650 to～850℃) occur close to or in contact with zircon,which was easily affected by post-peak processes(for example: diffusion,dissolution/reprecipitation).The lowest temperatures (～650 to～700℃) we obtained represent the closure temperature of *** with higher Zr concentrations (～3,000 to～8,000 ppm) and calculated temperatures (～850 to～1,000℃) were least affected by late resetting,giving near-peak metamorphic temperatures. These temperature results higher than 900℃,even in excess of 1,000℃from the three localities,reconfirm the presence of UHT *** results also suggest that Zr-in-rutile thermometry is valid for ultrahigh-temperature *** addition,there are positive correlations between concentrations of Zr and Hf,Nb and Ta of the investigated rutiles,but the correlations weaken as the concentrations increase,especially for Nb and Ta,implying fractionation of Nb and Ta.

A combined procedure for separating Lu,Hf,Rb,Sr,Sm and Nd from a single sample digestion is presented in this *** procedure consists of the following four steps:(1) sample dissolution in a mixture of concentrated HF-HNO-HClO;(2) Lu and Hf separation from the Rb,Sr,LMREE and other matrix elements by HF-free extraction chromatography;(3) Rb,Sr and LMREE separation from other matrix elements using a cation-exchange resin;(4) Sm and Nd separation from others LMREE by extraction *** feasibility,flexibility and reproducibility of Rb-Sr,Sm-Nd and Lu-Hf isotope systems are demonstrated for international standard solutions and Certified Reference Materials(CRMs). Results show good agreement with previously reported values by isotope dilution methods,indicating the technique has fewer problems in respect to well-known sample inhomogeneity of natural geological materials and demonstrating its potential application to the study of limited and precious terrestrial rocks or minerals(like peridotite,kimberlite and xenoliths) and extra-terrestrial samples(like lunar rock and meteorites).

Li isotopes have many advantageous characteristics as geochemical tracer for a wide range of geological processes,covering fluid/melt-mineral interactions from the Earth’s surface to the *** latest developments in Li isotope geochemistry,in terms of measuring techniques, major geochemical reservoirs,the behaviors during the near-surface weathering and crust/mantle cycling of materials in subducting zone,as well as the signature of convective mantle and controlling factors in Li isotopic fractionation are briefly reviewed in this *** better quantification of partition coefficients(mineral-melt/fiuid) and fractionation factors of Li isotopes (such as temperature and diffusion coefficients),Li isotope system will be a powerful geochemical tracer in future studies.

The protracted development history of the Palaeo-Asian Ocean starting from～1000 Ma to～320 Ma,and continuation of mantle-derived magmatism right through the post-collisional period as manifested by the widespread mafic-ultramafic intrusion and alkaline-peralkaline granite suggest a vigorous,long-running mantle *** the micro-laser Raman spectrometer,we analyzed olivine- and plagioclase-hosted fluid inclusions from ophiolitic dunite,Kudi of the western Kunlun Range,and post-collisional mafic-ultramafic intrusions of the Xiangshan and the Huangshandong,eastern chinese Tienshan *** results show that fluids brought from the mantle by these rocks are rich in HO and CH with variable amounts of *** of the redox state,pressure and depth of formation for the melt-CH-HO+N fluid systems from the 3 rock suites of the Xinjiang,and comparison of these parameters with those of the peridotite-fluid parageneses for the sub-cratonic upper mantle give meaningful *** fluids were formed in the asthenosphere,were originally CH-N-rich,primordial mantle fluid,but have been progressively diluted with HO and become oxidized by repeated subduction of oceanic *** propose that repeated redox melting in the mantle due to dilution of CH with HO and oxidation caused formation of the long-lived Palaeo-Asian Ocean,brought about extensive intrusion of mafic-ultramafic complexes and alkaline-peralkaline granites right through the post-collisional period,and,consequently,resulted in significant Phanerozoic continental growth in the Central Asian Orogenic *** of atmospheric O and the Earth’s major oxidation occurred at about 2.4 to 2.2 *** of the Earth’s mantle promoted the mantle melting and magma input to the crust,resulting in major continental growth after 2.5 ***,much-postponed oxidation of the primordial mantle underneath the Central Asian Orogenic Belt led to significant continental growth in the Phanerozoic times.

Three standard minerals GA-1550 biotite,LP-6 biotite and Bern-4M muscovite used for K-Ar and Ar-Ar dating have been investigated by the single grain Rb-Sr *** to the K-Ar and Ar-Ar results previously reported,these mica standards nevertheless show complex characteristics in the Rb-Sr isotopic *** on eight individual grains of GA-1550 biotite gives a Rb-Sr isochron age of 98.7±1.9 Ma,consistent with previous dating results of the K-Ar and stepwise heating and laser ablation Ar-Ar *** evidence of the laser ablation Ar-Ar analyses in many previous studies demonstrates that LP-6 biotite is considerably inhomogeneous in the K-Ar isotopic system,Rb-Sr isotopic analyses on ten individual biotite grains show achievement of Sr isotopic equilibrium during crystallization.A Rb-Sr isochron age of 128.2±2.2 Ma calculated from the analytical results is concordant with those previously reported K-Ar and Ar-Ar ages obtained from c.30 mg aliquots of biotite *** age reproducibility on Bern-4M muscovite was previously achieved by K-Ar and Ar-Ar dating by total fusion in c.30 mg aliquots of muscovite grains,but single grain Rb-Sr analytical results in this study demonstrate considerable disequilibrium of Sr isotopic system during crystallization of *** discordance in the Rb-Sr and K-Ar isotopic systems of two standard minerals indicates complex factors that can influence isotopic disequilibrium of both isotopic systems.

The Sm-Nd isotopic system,one of the important techniques for dating and geochemical tracing,has been widely used in *** and accurate measurements of Nd isotopic ratios are more difficult to achieve for microsamples that contain less than 50ng Nd,when routine Nd technique is applied on thermal ionization mass spectrometer(TIMS).Compared to Nd technique,the NdO technique,owing to more efficient ionization,is a better choice for high precision measurements of Nd isotopic ratios of micro- or low-content *** study presents measurement results of sub-nanogram size samples of standard reference solution and rock-powder using NdO technique on the latest TIMS (GV product IsoProbe-T).Sixteen rock-powder references and four reference solutions were measured both by NdO and Nd techniques for an evaluation of accuracy and precision of measurements obtained by the NdO *** show that analytical precision and reproducibility of NdO measurements of sub-nanogram Nd is comparable with those obtained by the Nd measurements of samples containing 200 ng *** precision of the Nd/Nd ratios achieved with both techniques is better than 0.003%.Our results show that the microsample NdO technique is a very promising method for high resolution Sm-Nd geochronology and isotopic tracing.

We describe a precise and accurate method for the direct determination of the Sr/Sr isotope ratio of botded Sr-rich natural mineral drinking water using multiple collector inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry(MC-ICP-MS).The method is validated by the comparative analysis of the same water with and without cation-exchange resin *** work indicates that isobarically interfering elements can be corrected for when Rb/Sr<0.05(Rb/Sr<0.015),and that the matrix elements(Ca,Mg,K and Na) have no significant effect on the accuracy of the Sr isotope *** method is simple,rapid,eliminates sample preparation time,and avoids potential contamination during complicated sample-preparation procedures. Therefore,the high sample throughput inherent to the MC-ICP-MS can be fully exploited.

The Sichuan Basin,located in the western margin of Yangtze Plate,is one of the important oil-gas-bearing basins in china. During the Early Permian-Middle Triassic,the Sichuan Basin experienced regional lithospheric extension and Emeishan basalt activities,both of which influenced the basin development and thermal *** we simulated the thermal effects of lithospheric extension and the Emeishan mantle plume based on different geodynamical *** results indicated that the lithospheric temperature together with the basement heat flow was generally increasing with time due to *** the stretching factor was relatively small,the thinning of lithosphere,and consequently the thermal disturbance,was not great. The lithospheric extension yielded about 20%increase of the basement heat flow,with maximum value of 60-62 mW m in the Early *** plume model shows that the thermal evolution of the inner zone above the plume head was influenced greatly by plume *** the outer zone and its outside area where the Sichuan Basin is located were affected only *** basalts that had erupted in the southwestern basin might disturb the basin temperature significantly,although shortly and ***,the thermal history of the Sichuan basin during the Early Permian-Middle Triassic was controlled by the lithospheric extension,but locally it superimposed thermal effects of basalt activities in its southwestern area.
