Feedback linearization and equivalent-disturbance compensation control strategy for piezoelectric stage

Piezoelectric stages use piezoelectric actuators and flexure hinges as driving and amplifying mechanisms,respectively.These systems have high positioning accuracy and high-frequency responses,and they are widely used in various precision/ultra-precision positioning fields.However,the main challenge with these devices is the inherent hysteresis nonlinearity of piezoelectric actuators,which seriously affects the tracking accuracy of a piezoelectric stage.Inspired by this challenge,in this work,we developed a Hammerstein model to describe the hysteresis nonlinearity of a piezoelectric stage.In particular,in our proposed scheme,a feedback-linearization algorithm is used to eliminate the static hysteresis nonlinearity.In addition,a composite controller based on equivalent-disturbance compensation was designed to counteract model uncertainties and external disturbances.An analysis of the stability of a closed-loop system based on this feedback-linearization algorithm and composite controller was performed,and this was followed by extensive comparative experiments using a piezoelectric stage developed in the laboratory.The experimental results confirmed that the feedback-linearization algorithm and the composite controller offer improved linearization and trajectory-tracking performance.

Decreased LDHB expression in breast tumor cells causes NK cell activation and promotes tumor progression

Objective: Abnormal metabolism is the underlying reason for breast cancer progression. Decreased lactate dehydrogenase B(LDHB) has been detected in breast cancer but the function of LDHB remains unknown.Methods: Western blot was used to analyze LDHB expression in breast cancer cells. The impact of LDHB on tumor cell migration and invasion was determined using Transwell assays, wound healing assays, and a mouse lung metastasis model. Subcutaneous tumor formation, a natural killer(NK) cell cytotoxicity assay, and flow cytometry evaluated NK cell activation. Immunofluorescence and quantitative real-time PCR detected NK cell activation markers. Kaplan-Meier analysis evaluated the effect of immune cell infiltration on prognosis. Single-sample gene set enrichment analysis determined NK cell activation scores. A support vector machine predicted the role of LDHB in NK cell activation.Results: In this study we showed that LDHB inhibits the breast cancer cell metastasis and orchestrates metabolic reprogramming within tumor cells. Our results revealed that LDHB-mediated lactic acid clearance in breast cancer cells triggers NK cell activation within the tumor microenvironment. Our findings, which were confirmed in a murine model, demonstrated that LDHB in tumor cells promotes NK cell activation and ultimately results in the eradication of malignant cells. Clinically, our study further validated that LDHB affects immune cell infiltration and function. Specifically, its expression has been linked to enhanced NK cell-mediated cytotoxicity and improved patient survival. Furthermore, we identified LDHB expression in tumors as an important predictor of NK cell activation, with strong predictive ability in some cancers.Conclusions: Our results suggest that LDHB is a promising target for activating the tumor immune microenvironment in breast cancer, where LDHB-associated lactic acid clearance leads to increased NK cell activity. Anti-abrasion collagen fiber-based membrane functionalized by UiO-66-NH_(2)with ultra-high efficiency and stability for oil-in-water emulsions separation

Membrane separation strategies offer promising platform for the emulsion separation.However,the low mechanical strength of membrane separation layers and the trade-off between separation flux and efficiency present significant challenges.In this study,we report a CFM@UiO-66-NH_(2)membrane with high separation flux,efficiency and stability,through utilizing a robust anti-abrasion collagen fiber membrane(CFM)as the multifunctional support and UiO-66-NH_(2)by an in-situ growth as the separation layer.The high mechanical strength of the CFM compensated for the weakness of the separation layer,while the charge-breaking effect of UiO-66-NH_(2),along with the size sieving of its constituent separating layers and the capillary effect of the collagen fibers,contributed to the potential for efficient separation.Additionally,the CFM@UiO-66-NH_(2)membrane exhibited superhydrophilic properties,making it suitable for separating oil-in-water microemulsions and nanoemulsions stabilized by anionic surfactants.The membrane demonstrated remarkable separation efficiencies of up to 99.960%and a separation flux of370.05 L·m^(-2)·h^(-1).Moreover,it exhibits stability,durability,and abrasion resistance,maintaining excellent separation performance even when exposed to strong acids and alkalis without any damage to its structure and performance.After six cycles of reuse,it achieved a separation flux of 417.97 L·m^(-2)·h^(-1)and a separation efficiency of 99.747%.Furthermore,after undergoing 500 cycles of strong abrasion,the separation flux remained at 124.39 L·m^(-2)·h^(-1),with a separation efficiency of 99.992%.These properties make it suitable for the long-term use in harsh operating environments.We attribute these properties to the electrostatic effect resulting from the amino group on UiO-66-NH_(2)and its in-situ growth on the CFM,which forms a size-screening separation layer.Our work highlights the potential of the CFM@UiO-66-NH_(2)membrane as an environmentally friendly size-screening material for the efficient emulsion wastewater

Steering surface reconstruction of hybrid metal oxides for efficient oxygen evolution reaction in water splitting and zinc-air batteries

Surface reconstruction yields real active species in electrochemical oxygen evolution reaction(OER)conditions;however,rationally regulating reconstruction in a targeted manner for constructing highly active OER electrocatalysts remains a formidable challenge.Here,an electrochemical activation strategy with selective etching was utilized to guide the reconstruction process of a hybrid cobalt-molybdenum oxide(CoMoO_(4)/Co_(3)O_(4)@CC)in a favorable direction to improve the OER performance.Both in-situ Raman and multiple ex-situ characterization tools demonstrate that controlled surface reconstruction can be easily achieved through Mo etching,with the formation of a dynamically stable amorphous-crystalline heterostructure.Theoretical calculations together with experimental results reveal that the synergistic effects between amorphous CoOOH and crystalline Co_(3)O_(4) are crucial in enhancing the catalytic performance.Consequently,the reconstructed CoMoO_(4)/Co_(3)O_(4)@CC exhibits a low overpotential of 250 mV to achieve a current density of 10 mA cm^(-2) in 1 M KOH,and more importantly it can be practiced in electrolytic water splitting and rechargeable zinc-air batteries devices,achieving ultra-long stability for over 500 and 1200 h,respectively.This work provides a promising route for the construction of high-performance electrocatalysts.

Silicon photonics technology has drawn significant interest due to its potential for compact and high-performance photonic integrated circuits.The Ge-or III-V material-based avalanche photodiodes integrated on silicon photonics provide ideal high sensitivity optical receivers for telecommunication wavelengths.Herein,the last advances of monolithic and hetero-geneous avalanche photodiodes on silicon are reviewed,including different device structures and semiconductor systems.

Magnetic and electronic properties of La-doped hexagonal 4H-SrMnO3

As typical strongly correlated electronic materials, manganites show rich magnetic phase diagrams and electronic structures depending on the doped carrier density. Most previous relevant studies of doped manganites rely on the cubic/orthorhombic structures, while the hexagonal structure is much less studied. Here first-principles calculations are employed to investigate the magnetic and electronic structures of La-doped 4H-SrMnO3. By systematically analyzing the two kinds of La-doped positions, our calculations predict that the doped electron with lattice distortion would prefer to form polarons, which contribute to the local magnetic phase transition, nonzero net magnetization, and semiconducting behavior. In addition, the energy gap decreases gradually with increasing doping concentration, indicating a tendency of insulator–metal transition.

Mechanisms of enhanced sub-bandgap absorption in high-speed all-silicon avalanche photodiodes

All-silicon (Si) photodiodes have drawn significant interest due to their single and simple material system and perfect compatibility with complementary metal-oxide semiconductor photonics. With the help from a cavity enhancement effect, many of these photodiodes have shown considerably high responsivity at telecommunication wavelengths such as 1310 nm, yet the mechanisms for such high responsivity remain unexplained. In this work,an all-Si microring is studied systematically as a photodiode to unfold the various absorption mechanisms.At-6.4 V, the microring exhibits responsivity up to0.53 A∕W with avalanche gain, a 3 dB bandwidth of25.5 GHz, and open-eye diagrams up to 100 Gb/s. The measured results reveal the hybrid absorption mechanisms inside the device. A comprehensive model is reported to describe its working principle, which can guide future designs and make the all-Si microring photodiode a promising building block in Si photonics.

Introduction of temperature-sensitive helper and donor plasmids into Bac-to-Bac baculovirus expression systems

In the baculovirus shuttle vector(bacmid) system, a helper plasmid and a donor plasmid are employed to insert heterologous genes into a cloned baculovirus genome via Tn7 transposition in Escherichia coli. The helper and donor plasmids are usually cotransfected with constructed bacmids into insect cells, which will lead to integration of these plasmids into the viral genome,and hence to the production of defective virions. In this study, to facilitate the preparation of plasmid-free recombinant bacmids, we modified a set of helper and donor plasmids by replacing their replication origins with that of a temperature-sensitive(ts) plasmid, p SIM6. Using the resulting ts helper plasmid p MON7124 ts and the ts donor plasmid p FB1ts-PH-GFP, a recombinant bacmid,b Ac WT-PG(-), was constructed, and the transposition efficiency was found to be 33.1%. The plasmids were then removed by culturing at 37 °C. For b Ac WT-PG(-), the infectious progeny virus titer and the protein expression level under the control of the polyhedrin promoter were similar to those of a bacmid constructed with unmodified helper and donor plasmids. These ts plasmids will be useful for obtaining plasmid-free bacmids for both heterologous protein production and fundamental studies of baculovirus biology.

Mechanical Properties of Resistance Spot Welded Components of High Strength Austenitic Stainless Steel

Resistance multi-spot welding （MSW） in column, triangle and tetragonal symmetry arrangements was prepared using cold-rolled 301L high-strength sheets, and their static and fatigue properties were in- vestigated. The effects of spot welds on the fracture strengths and fatigue limits were discussed. The results show that the static strengths can be estimated using an inherent linear relationship formula of the load versus the welding area. It was based on the 28%-33% volume fraction of α′ martensite induced at the interfacial spot weld fracture because of the failure deformation. The fatigue limits of the MSW nonlin- early increase with the number of spot welds. The arrangement of spot welds in the MSW significantly affects the average fatigue limit of each spot weld; its 26% maximum reduction occurred in the triangle, and the interaction stress between spot welds led to its 18% reduction in the tetragonal symmetry. The calculated fatigue stress of all MSW loadings with their mean fatigue limits was 230-270 MPa.

The role of accounting conservatism in M&A target selection

Mergers and acquisitions(M&As)are among the most important investment activities for companies,but they contain great risks.We investigate the role of accounting conservatism in M&A target selection and risk.We find that for risk-averse reasons,firms with high accounting conservatism are likely to acquire profitable targets and avoid loss-making targets.When such firms acquire loss-making targets,the conservatism’s risk-control role reduces M&A risk and increases M&A performance,but only when control of the target is transferred and the acquirer has high long-term debt and low management power.Furthermore,accounting conservatism reduces risk by increasing the maturity match between cash flow and debt.Our results suggest that accounting conservatism plays not only a risk-averse role but also a riskcontrol role,providing new evidence for the usefulness of accounting conservatism in M&A decisions.
