Wettability-driven synergistic resistance of scale and oil on robust superamphiphobic coating

Disgusting deposits(e.g.,scale and crude oil)in daily life and industrial production are always serious problems,posing great threats to the safety and economic ***,most of developed coatings can only conquer one part of these deposits such as superhydrophobic coatings possess antiscaling capacity but would adhere crude *** integrate scale resistance with oil repellence,we herein report a robust superamphiphobic(SAB)coating simultaneously reducing pollution of scale and oil for extended period of time(two weeks with over 98%reduction).Compared with single role of superhydrophobic and amphiphilic surfaces,the SAB coating can not only inhibit interfacial nucleation of scale but also reduce the adhesion of formed scale and polluted *** durability of the SAB coating is evaluated via mechanical tests(sandpaper abrasion,tape stripping and sand falling)and chemical corrosion(corrosive liquid immersing),revealed by sustainable high contact angles and low contact angle hysteresis of water and *** universality of this strategy can be further confirmed by adding different particles like kaolin,Al_(2)O_(3),and SiO_(2),resisting multiple types of scale(i.e.,CaSO_(4),BaSO_(4)and MgCO_(3))and oil(i.e.,glycerol,glycol,and mineral oil).Therefore,this study provides an ideal avenue for resisting scale and oil,which may be used for conquering the complexity of application environments(e.g.,oil production and transportation).

Visualization of the sound scattering by a cylinder

The schlieren method is applied to visualizing the sound scattering of a cylinder immersed in the liquids. Images of the echoes, caused by normal and oblique incidence from a cylinder, are obtained for two kinds of liquids: (1) the liquid is composed of a transparent liquid; and (2) the liquid is composed of two non-mixable transparent liquids. It is found experimentally that the echo can be caused by the discontinaites in the shadow zone. This fact is utilized to demonstrate the locus of the helical surface wave creeping along the surface of the cylinder. For such cases the three-dimensional image can be described by this method and has not to use the system with special appliances and complex algorithm.

Massive bodies of low-oxygen bottom waters are found in coastal areas worldwide,which are detrimental to coastal *** summer 2020,the response of coastal hypoxia to extreme weather events,including a catastrophic flooding,an extreme marine heatwave,and Typhoon Bavi,is investigated based on multiple satellite,four cruises,and mooring *** extensive fan-shaped hypoxia zone presents significant northward extension during July-September 2020,and is estimated as large as 13 000 km^(2) with rather low oxygen minimum(0.42 mg/L) during its peak in 28-30 *** severe hypoxia is attributed to the persistent strong stratification,which is indicated by flood-induced larger amount of riverine freshwater input and subsequent marine heatwave off the Changjiang River ***,the Typhoon Bavi has limited effect on the marine heatwave and coastal hypoxia in summer 2020.

The resonance scattering of underwater elastic cylinders

If the frequency of the incident sound wave coincides with one of the eigenfrequencies of the underwater elastic cylinder, the corresponding eigenvibration will be excited by incident sound wave and strongly reradiate sound wave towards surronding water. It has been revealed by previous investigations that the amplitude of backscattering sound appears to be minimum at the eigenfrequencies of the underwater metallic cylinders because of the destructive interference between reradiated wave of the eigenvibration and the geometrical reflected wave from surface of the cylinders. In this paper, a new phenomenon has been revealed. The amplitude of backscattering sound appears to be maximum at the eigenfrequencies of a cylinder made from nonmetallic material in which the velocity of elastic transverse wave is less than the sound velocity in water.

直接乙醇燃料电池的效率与阳极乙醇氧化反应(EOR)C1路径选择性密切相关,然而C-C键断裂的能垒较高,使得C1路径产物选择性低,从而限制了直接乙醇燃料电池效率的提升.设计具有高C-C裂解效率的电催化剂,对于构建高效直接乙醇燃料电池具有重要意义.本文报道了一种Mott-Schottky异质结调节催化活性中心电子状态从而促进EOR过程中C-C裂解的新策略.我们以PdAu合金纳米颗粒(NPs)为模型催化剂,制备了PdAu@N_(x)C金属-碳Mott-Schottky异质结构.PdAu NPs(15.9±1.9 nm)均匀地分散在N掺杂的碳载体上.我们通过在宽范围内调节N掺杂量,调控异质结界面电势,形成了不同程度的电荷分离.通过催化剂结构与性能研究,建立了反应活性与催化剂功函数之间的线性关系,表明金属/碳界面电子转移可以有效促进EOR.优化的催化剂PdAu@N10.69C,显示出高C1产物选择性(FE=51.1%),质量活性(MA=9.7 A mg Pd^(-1))和比活性(SA=13.2 mA cm^(-2)),优于PdAu@C和大多数报道的Pd基EOR催化剂.实验结果和理论计算表明,N的引入促进了电子由碳层向PdAu转移,加强了对*CH_(3)CO的吸附,从而提高了C-C键的断裂效率.这项工作为整流策略提高EOR性能提供了一种新的研究思路.

Improving error-correcting capability in DNA digital storage via soft-decision decoding

Error-correcting codes(ECCs) employed in the state-of-the-art DNA digital storage(DDS) systems suffer from a trade-off between error-correcting capability and the proportion of redundancy. To address this issue, in this study, we introduce soft-decision decoding approach into DDS by proposing a DNA-specific error prediction model and a series of novel strategies. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach through a proof-of-concept DDS system based on Reed-Solomon(RS) code, named as Derrick. Derrick shows significant improvement in error-correcting capability without involving additional redundancy in both in vitro and in silico experiments, using various sequencing technologies such as Illumina, Pac Bio and Oxford Nanopore Technology(ONT). Notably, in vitro experiments using ONT sequencing at a depth of 7× reveal that Derrick, compared with the traditional hard-decision decoding strategy, doubles the error-correcting capability of RS code, decreases the proportion of matrices with decoding-failure by 229-fold, and amplifies the potential maximum storage volume by impressive 32 388-fold. Also, Derrick surpasses ‘state-of-the-art' DDS systems by comprehensively considering the information density and the minimum sequencing depth required for complete information recovery. Crucially, the soft-decision decoding strategy and key steps of Derrick are generalizable to other ECCs' decoding algorithms.
