BACKGROUND The features of gastric cancer based on the anatomic site remain unknown in northern China *** To analyze gastric cancer features and associated trends based on the anatomical site in northern China *** This cross-sectional study used incident gastric cancer case data from 10 Peking University-affiliated hospitals(2014 to 2018).The clinical and prevailing local features were *** A total of 10709 patients were enrolled,including antral(42.97%),cardia(34.30%),and stomach body(18.41%)gastric cancer *** in the cardia had the highest male:female ratio,proportion of elderly patients,and patients with complications,including hypertension,diabetes,cerebrovascular,and coronary diseases(P<0.001).gastric cancer involving the antrum showed the lowest proportion of patients from rural areas and accounted for the highest hospitalization rate and cost(each P<0.001).The proportion of patients with cancer involving the cardia increased with an increase in the number of gastroesophageal reflux disease cases during the same period(P<0.001).Multivariate analysis revealed that tumor location in the cardia increased the risk of inhospital mortality(P=0.046).Anatomical subsite was not linked to postoperative *** The features of gastric cancer based on the anatomical site differ between northern China and other regions,both globally and within the *** factors may account for these differences and should affect policy-making and clinical practice.

Abstract Polyaniline film was prepared by electrochemical method in an acidic solution of aniline. The micromor- phology of the polyaniline film was transformed to three-dimensional network structure instead of little particles while the deposition time was extended. The peak wavelength of the photoluminescence spectrum was 491 nm. The luminous intensity increased with the extension of deposition time, and so did the electrochemical activity.

Antenna-coupled field-effect-transistors(FETs) offer high sensitivity for terahertz detection. Both the magnitude and the polarity of the response signal are sensitive to the localized terahertz field under the gate. The ability of accurate sensing the intensity pattern is required for terahertz imaging systems. Here, we report artefacts in the intensity pattern of a focused terahertz beam around 1 THz by scanning a silicon-lens and antenna coupled AlGaN/GaN high-electron-mobility-transistor(HEMT) detector. The origin of the image distortion is found to be connected with one of the antenna blocks by probing the localized photocurrents as a function of the beam location and the frequency. Although the exact distortion is found with our specific antenna design, we believe similar artefacts could be commonplace in antenna-coupled FET terahertz detectors when the beam spot becomes comparable with the antenna size. To eliminate such artefacts, new antenna designs are welcomed to achieve strong asymmetry in the terahertz field distribution under the gate while maintaining a more symmetric radiation pattern for the whole antenna.

Effects of competitive and noncompetitive 5α-reductase inhibitors on serum and intra-prostatic androgens in beagle dogs

Background 5a-Reductase inhibitors （5a-RI） act by inhibiting the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone （DHT）, thereby preventing DHT induced benign prostatic hyperplasia. The existing 5a-RIs can be classified into two types： competitive and noncompetitive. Currently, limited evidence is available concerning the effect differences between the two types of 5a-RI on androgens. The purpose of this study was to assess the effects of competitive and noncompetitive 5a-RIs on serum and intra-prostatic androgens in beagle dogs. Methods Twenty beagles with spontaneous benign prostatic hyperplasia were randomly allocated into two groups： epristeride group （n=10） in which beagles were treated with epristeride at 1 mg/kg once a day for 3 months, and finasteride group （n=10） in which beagles were treated with finasteride at 1 mg/kg once a day for 3 months. The levels of intra-prostatic testosterone and DHT were measured before treatment and on day one after three months medication. Serum levels of testosterone and DHT were measured at the same time points. Changes in androgen levels before and after treatment were analyzed, and comparisons were made within each treatment group and between treatment groups. Results After 3-month treatment, serum and intra-prostatic DHT levels all decreased significantly in both the epristeride and finasteride groups. The change of DHT in serum was significantly higher in the finasteride group （-14% and -43% in epdsteride and finasteride groups respectively, with P〈0.001）; however there was no significant difference in the changes of intra-prostatic DHT between the two groups （-47% and -51% in epristeride and finasteride groups, respectively, P=0.304）. The decreases in DHT levels were accompanied by reciprocal increases in serum and intra-prostatic testosterone levels. AIM: The loss of heterozygosity (LOH) on tumorsuppressor genes is believed to play a key role incarcinogenesis of colorectal cancer, In this study, weanalyzed the LOH at 5 loci on the long arm ofchromosome 22 in sporadic colorectal cancer to identifyadditional loci involved in colorectal ***: Five polymorphic microsatellite markerswere analyzed in 83 cases of colorectal and normal DNAby PCR. PCR products were eletrophoresed on an ABI377 DNA sequencer; Genescan 3.1 and Genotype 2.1software were used for LOH scanning and analysisComparison between LOH frequency andclinicopathological data were performed by x2 test. P＜0.05 was considered as statistically ***: The average LOH frequency on chromosome22q was 28.38 %. The region between markersD22S280 and D22S274 (22q12.2-q13.33) exhibitedrelatively high LOH frequency. The two highest LOH lociwith frequencies of 35.09 % and 34.04 % wasidentified on D22S280 (22q12.2-12.3) and D22S274(22q13.32-13.33). 8 cases showed LOH at allinformative loci, suggesting that one chromosome 22qhad been completely lost. On D22S274 locus, LOHfrequency of rectal cancer was 50 % (9/18), which washigher than that of proximal colon cancer (12 %, 2/17) (P=0.018). The frequency of distal colon cancer was42 % (5/12), also higher than that of proximal coloncancer. But there was no statistical significance. Puttingboth the tumors in distal colon and rectum togetherinto consideration, the frequency, 47 % (14/30), washigher than that of proximal colon cancer (P=0.015),suggesting the mechanism of carcinogenisis wasdifferent in both ***: This study provided evidence for theinvolvement of putative tumor suppressor genes relatedto the sporadic colorectal carcinoma on chromosome22q. The tumor-suppressor-gene(s) might locate on the22q12.2-12.3 and/or 22q13.32-13.33.
