First-in-human Results of the Novel Transcatheter Mitral Valve Repair System for Severe Mitral Regurgitation

Objective:To evaluate the feasibility,safety,and effectiveness of a novel edge-to-edge mitral valve repair system(the NovoClasp system)in patients with severe mitral ***:In this prospective,single-arm,first-in-human study conducted at Beijing Anzhen Hospital,data were collected from patients undergoing transcatheter edge-to-edge repair using the NovoClasp *** study candidates were patients exhibiting a mitral regurgitation severity of 3+or more and were at high-risk or contraindicated for surgical *** success and device success according to the Mitral Valve Academic Research Consortium definitions were used as primary *** safety and efficacy outcomes were prospectively assessed at device implantation,discharge,and 30 d,6 months,and 12 months ***:Between October 1,2021,and January 31,2022,11 patients were treated for moderate-to-severe(grade 3+)or severe(grade 4+)mitral regurgitation using the NovoClasp *** patients had a baseline New York Heart Association functional class oflll-lIV,with 7/11 exhibiting complex mitral valve *** patients achieved the primary endpoints of technical and device success,with a post-operative 30-d mitral regurgitation grade reduction to 2+or lower,which was maintained at 12 *** patient had minor bleeding and hematoma at the access site before discharge,and 2 patients were readmitted due to fast atrial fibrillation within 12 months *** additional cases of death,adverse cerebral or cardiovascular events,or device-related complications was observed during the ***:This study suggested the potential feasibility and safety of the NovoClasp system,showing a promising technical and device success rate,along with a decrease in mitral regurgitation severity.A further pivotal study is needed to assess the procedural and long-term outcomes.

Glycerol solutions of highly concentrated biomineral counter-ions towards water-responsive mineralization: Demonstration on bacterial cellulose and its application in hard tissue repair

Mineralization has found widespread use in the fabrication of composite biomaterials for hard tissue *** current mineralization processes are mainly carried out in neutral aqueous solutions of biomineral counter-ions(a pair of cation and anion that form the corresponding minerals at certain conditions),which are stable only at very low *** typically results in inefficient mineralization and weak control over biomineral ***,we find that,in the organic solvent glycerol,a variety of biomineral counter-ions(e.g.,Ca/PO_(4),Ca/CO_(3),Ca/SO_(4),Mg/PO_(4),or Fe/OH)corresponding to distinct biominerals at significantly high concentrations(up to hundreds-fold greater than those of simulated body fluid(SBF))are able to form translucent and stable solutions(mineralizing solution of highly concentrated counter-ions(MSCIs)),and mineralization can be triggered upon them with external solvents(e.g.,water or ethanol).Furthermore,with pristine bacterial cellulose(BC)membrane as a model,we demonstrate an effective and controllable mineralization performance of MSCIs on organic *** approach not only forms the homogeneous biominerals on the BC fibers and in the interspaces,but also provides regulations over mineralization rate,mineral content,phase,and *** resulting mineralized BC membranes(MBCs)exhibit high cytocompatibility and favor the proliferation of rat bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells(rBMSC).Following this,we prepare a mineralized bone suture(MBS)from MBC for non-weight bearing bone fixation,which then is tested on a rabbit median sternotomy *** shows firm fixation of the rabbit sternum without causing discernible toxicity or inflammatory *** study,by extending the mineralization to the organic solution system of highly concentrated counter-ions,develops a promising strategy to design and build targeted mineral-based composites.

Monitoring the prevalence of antimicrobial resistance genes(ARGs)is vital for addressing the global crisis of antibiotic-resistant bacterial *** its importance,the characterization of ARGs and microbiome structures,as well as the identification of indicators for routine ARG monitoring in pig farms,are still lacking,particularly concerning variations in antimicrobial exposure in different countries or ***,metagenomics and random forest machine learning were used to elucidate the ARG profiles,microbiome structures,and ARG contamination indicators in pig manure under different antimicrobial pressures between China and *** showed that Chinese pigs exposed to high-level antimicrobials exhibited higher total and plasmid-mediated ARG abundances compared to those in European pigs(Pnant genera in the core microbiomes of Chinese and European pigs,*** ARG markers and 43 biomarkers were able to differentiate between the Chinese and European pig manure samples with accuracies of 100%and 98.7%,*** for assessing ARG contamination in Chinese and European pigs also achieved high accuracy(r=0.72-0.88).Escherichia flexneri in both Chinese and European pig populations carried between 21 and 37 *** results of this study emphasize the importance of global collaboration in reducing antimicrobial resistance risk and provide validated indicators for evaluating the risk of ARG contamination in pig farms.

A model for describing solute segregation at grain boundaries has been developed for substitutional solid solution alloys,which integrates multiple factors from atomic to microstructural scales.A concept of mo-lar Gibbs free energy of segregation was introduced to evaluate the segregating capability of the solute elements in a closed system,through which the influences of grain boundary structure,grain size,ma-terial composition,and external conditions were *** on the evaluation of various energy forms related to solute segregation and grain growth processes,the nature of the thermal stabilization of nanograin structures by solute segregation was disclosed.A criterion for the destabilization of nanostruc-tures,which is determined by the competition of the change rates between the molar Gibbs free energy of segregation and the total energy of grain boundaries with grain size,has been *** study provided guideline to achieve high-temperature stability of nanograin structures of solid solution alloys even for the weakly segregating nanocrystalline systems.

A Scalable Pillar Layered Metal-Organic Framework for Natural Gas Purification

One-step harvest of high-purity methane(CH_(4))from ternary propane/ethane/methane(C_(3)H_(8)/C_(2)H_(6)/CH_(4))mixtures remains a desirable yet challenging goal for natural gas ***,adsorbents either suffer from high capacity and selectivity,or are caught in a dilemma of scalable ***,we demonstrate a scalable pillar layered metal-organic framework Ni-MOF for highly efficient one-step CH_(4)***-MOF exhibits high C_(2)H_(6)and C_(3)H_(8)uptakes of 83.3 and 86.1 cm^(3)/g at 298 K and 100 kPa and remarkable C_(2)H_(6)/CH_(4)(50/50,volume ratio,21.5)and C_(3)H_(8)/CH_(4)(50/50,volume ratio,212.0)***,high C_(2)H_(6)(42.2 cm^(3)/g at 10 kPa)and C_(3)H_(8)(64.7 cm^(3)/g at 5 kPa)capacities in the low-pressure region at 298 K were realized on Ni-MOF,suggesting the strong affinities of Ni-MOF towards C_(2)H_(6)and C_(3)H_(8).Furthermore,the dynamic breakthrough experiments revealed that purifying CH_(4)from natural gas in one-step can be achieved in Ni-MOF with high-purity(>99.8%)and productivity(346.0 cm^(3)/g).Most significantly,the production of Ni-MOF can be scalably synthesized at room temperature,rendering it promising potential for industrial *** combined advantages of exceptional separation performance,scalability,and cycle stability of Ni-MOF pave the way for one-step CH_(4)purification from natural gas.

Phenomenology of heavy neutral gauge boson at muon collider

Heavy neutral gauge boson Z' is proposed in many new physics *** has rich phenomena at the future muon *** study the properties of Z' boson with the process of μ^(+)μ^(-)→qq,μ^(+)μ^(-)→l^(+)l^(-),μ^(+)μ^(-)→ ZH and μ^(+)μ^(-)→ W^(+)W^(-).The discrepancy of Z' coupling to different types of particles can be shown in the cross section distributions around the resonance peak of various decay *** distributions of the final quark or lepton in μ^(+)μ^(-)→qq/l^(+)l^(-)process are sensitive to the parameters such as mass of Z' and the Z-Z' mixing *** interaction of new gauge boson coupling to the standard model gauge particles and Higgs boson are also studied through μ^(+)μ^(-)→ ZH→l^(+)l^(-)bb and μ^(+)u^(-)→ W^(+)W^(-)→l^(+)l^(-)v_(l)v_(l).The cross section and the final particles' angular distributions with the contribution of Z' boson differ from those processes with only standard model particles.A forward-backward asymmetry defined by the angular distribution is provided to show the potential of searching for new physics at the muon ***,the beam polarization with certain value can effectively enlarge the forward-backward asymmetry.

Toward a Direct Measurement of the Cosmic Acceleration: The Pilot Observation of HI 21 cm Absorption Line at FAST

This study presents results on detecting neutral atomic hydrogen（H I） 21 cm absorption in the spectrum of PKS PKS1413+13 at redshift z = 0.24670041. The observation was conducted by FAST, with a spectral resolution of10 Hz, using 10 minutes of observing time. The global spectral profile is examined by modeling the absorption line using a single Gaussian function with a resolution of 10 kHz within a 2 MHz bandwidth. The goal is to determine the rate of the latest cosmic acceleration by directly measuring the redshift evolution of the H I 21 cm absorption line with Hubble flow toward a common background quasar over a decade or longer time span. This will serve as a detectable signal generated by the accelerated expansion of the Universe at redshift z lumn density in this DLA system is approximately equivalent to the initial observation value, considering uncertainties of the spin temperature of a spiral host galaxy. The high signal-to-noise ratio of 57,obtained at a 10 kHz resolution, strongly supports the feasibility of using the H I 21 cm absorption line in DLA systems to accurately measure the redshift drift rate at a precision level of around 10-10per decade.

Marine umbilical is one of the key equipment for subsea oil and gas exploitation,which is usually integrated by a great number of different functional components with *** layout of these components directly affects manufacturing,operation and storage performances of the *** the multi-layer cross-sectional layout design of the umbilical,a quantifiable multi-objective optimization model is established according to the operation and storage *** the manufacturing factors,the multi-layering strategy based on contact point identification is introduced for a great number of functional ***,the GA-GLM global optimization algorithm is proposed combining the genetic algorithm and the generalized multiplier method,and the selection operator of the genetic algorithm is improved based on the steepest descent *** algorithm is used to find the optimal solution in the global space,which can converge from any initial layout to the feasible layout *** feasible layout solution is taken as the initial value of the generalized multiplier method for fast and accurate ***,taking umbilicals with a great number of components as examples,the results show that the cross-sectional performance of the umbilical obtained by optimization algorithm is better and the solution efficiency is ***,the multi-layering strategy is effective and *** design method proposed in this paper can quickly obtain the optimal multi-layer cross-sectional layout,which replaces the manual design,and provides useful reference and guidance for the umbilical industry.
